We began negotiations months in advance but did not reach the levels he wanted, this was widely reported by all outlets. He then, many months later, supposedly was ready to "accept" the offer (though we apparently never actually gave him a formal offer as he, or his agent, had rejected whatever we were proposing) and offered him a revised deal, which he then turned down.
In the months of between him saying 'no' and then subsequently changing his mind last minute, it's a stretch to believe he or his agent didn't shop the shit out of the deal they thought they would get.
