De Gea - Fiorentina watch

Best shot stopper in Europe this season.
I'm just glad to see he's clearly worked really hard on the areas of his game that led to him being overlooked by pretty much every club in the world for over a year.

Buddy, he's gone, having a really good season at his new club and is a united legend. Can't you just let it go and be happy he's doing well elsewhere? The need to continue to knock him when we've replaced him with an excellent keeper is bizarre.

Even in his lesser later seasons he showed he was still capable of that elite level shot-stopping. The problem was that (unlike his peak years) he was unable to sustain that for full seasons without unforced mistakes ultimately dragging his numbers down.

For example he had a very strong start to the 21/22 season, being top of European goalkeepers for the same stat posted above by the time January 22 was coming to a close:

But in the final few months of that season his form deteriorated so much that he finished the season on a much more average +1.1.

So while it's nice to see him performing well early on, what you really want to see is him sustaining form for a full season without the mistakes that blighted his final years here re-emerging.

Club legend. I’m glad Onana has played well this season and that De Gea is doing well also. Everyone seems to have come out of this in a good place.

Exactly this. We should be happy for both - some really petty posts in this thread about someone that was a great servant for us.

How to tell anyone on the internet that you have no friends because you are a dick.

To be fair, it his Performance thread, and he is discussing his weaknesses. He is not going around and posting about De Gea everywhere. If it was the appreciation thread, fair enough, but i think it is not too bad to remind people that he regained his shot stopping consistency in a lower pressure environment, improved at penalties, but still has some old weaknesses. You can praise him and also discuss some negative aspects.

But there's ways of doing it, no? The below just reads as petty gloating and focusing on negatives for what has largely been a very positive season. All this for a player that spent the best years of his career at united. Still, I guess some would rather win internet points than give credit where it's due to a player that was a great servant.

Just let it go, he is still better than the liability we have in goal atm.

Yeah but is he happy.. or just saying this is a blip. Weird comment from an ex-red who was here for 10 years. Something like 'Come on United!' would be better

Yeah so weird. Almost like we also beat City 2-1 in the FA Cup final earlier this year, and he's referring to that.
