De Gea - Fiorentina watch

Ridiculous. Nothing to celebrate. It is same people who wanted us to Lose games and they call them self fans. Same people will be all over next manager as soon as first lost game.
The only thing ridiculous here, is the amount of time it was delayed. Thank feck it’s over and he is gone.

That was not the reports I read. It was widely reported we offered him a wage and contract, he didn’t accept it for whatever reason and then we offered him a lower wage at the end of the season. I find it hard to believe he was shopping around when he didn’t even sign for anyone for a year despite receiving Saudi offers. I don’t know why he didn’t accept the first offer and clearly a delay on his part but he certainly wasn’t expecting it to be withdrawn and then a lower wage offer. He could have been waiting until the end of the season to decide or just think about it. The treatment of him was widely criticised by many at the time irrespective of whether they wanted to keep him or not.
That makes no sense, how would him not being interested in Saudi prove he was not shopping around? He just did not want to go Saudi.

Club offers DDG a deal which was ultimately good enough for him but, whether of his own volition or his agent's, he chose to say 'no' and negotiate without success. We do not know how long those negotiations were but it went on for a while because it was reported on for a while. Then DDG decides, actually, I am fine with the offer I already said 'no' to, let's do it and the club told him to swivel. What do you think he/his agent were doing in the long period between saying 'no and then saying 'yes'. The player then pushes the PR angle because our fanbase is very lucrative for them, just as Herrera did although with him we were a bit late to offer terms, PSG just gave him an absolute monster deal.

The treatment of DDG was criticised because everything United do is made into a story - look at Skysports now, the entire page is like 6 ETH stories, other club's fans must be so bored of it

I was only going off reports around the time. I didn't see him being linked with any clubs in between the contracts. He could well have been shopping around, who knows. The media is just a load of shite, it must feel like Christmas Day for them with ETH getting sacked.

Pfff, those stats don't matter anymore. Keepers are now judged on how many dribbles and passes they do.

De Gea was a special player for me, he was the only top-top player from the SAF era that I consistently supported. Then, suddenly, after 12 years, the club decided to axe him, discarding him like trash right after he won the golden glove. I was extremely hurt and lost all respect for ETH and the management. I never thought I would feel this emotionally affected by anything related to United since SAF's sudden health issues, even drank 3 beers alone, even though I was on a calorie deficit. Hope he will return someday and get the respect he deserves in some way.

West ham, Sevilla, man city fa cup final, Everton fa cup, Brentford 4-0, so many mistakes in his final season with us. It doesn't matter he won the golden glove. He was past it imo and was dropping clangers in big matches. He's gone 18 months. Get over it. Move on

He had fallen way below his top level for about 5 years, the 2018 WC seemed to have had a massive negative impact on him. He was poor for long stretches and became 4th/5th/6th choice for Spain after that, barely even made a squad, never mind an appearance.

Yet at Utd, he was still the best paid keeper in the world. His style of goalkeeping wasn't in tune with the direction the team needed to go. He quite simply had to be moved on, everything about his game had become distinctly average and he was totally undeserving of the wage he was on, even at 50% of that he still wouldn't have been worth keeping.

It's nice that he's back playing, but let's not pretend he's still some world beater, Fiorentina are a mid table team and Serie A has become quite a poor league for the most part.

Those still lamenting his departure should just go back and look at how many league games and knock out games he cost Utd with his stupid errors.

Yeah, suddenly and completely unexpectedly axed. One day, they decided to let him go, just like that.

This has to be satire!

What an amazing post, I salute you on your writing.

A stat of how far he left his goalline would be interesting..

It is time to move on my friend and embrace the Onana way of life.

You should get promoted just for "even though I was on a calorie deficit".

What are these stats? 2 saves in box? Isn't that the only place he can make saves. 1 punch?

Anyways, good to see him doing well there.
Really feels like they were reaching to justify declaring him player of the month off of that one game, so they tossed every stat in there that they could find. Personally I'd say it looks just weird to say "oh look he punched the ball once and threw it five times, defo player of the month!". None of those stats make him look great, any keeper can have those in a one-game sample size. If he did some great goalkeeping just write that instead of using weird stats.

How much Dave still lives rent free in a lot of posters minds on here is truly remarkable.
I am truly happy for him doing well in Italy. He wasn't good enough for us anymore and moving him on was the right move. The way it was done was a disgrace, considering how long he had been with us and how hard he carried us several seasons before his decline.

Just be glad Onana is also doing well this season, else this discussion would be unbearable.

But yep, good lad Dave.

ETH has been called every name under the sun and hated by posters in here, but then the same posters loose their shit because a player ETH pushed out, tweets something.. Go figure
There’s a difference between randos on RedCafe and a former United player (and legend to some) with global status, millions of followers and a direct relationship with ETH. The latter generates controversy and becomes another story.

How would DDG feel if, say, Vidic or Rio posted that emoji when he was released? He too, like ETH, had to go.

I don’t think ETH deserves to be beaten while he’s down. He did try after all. He just failed.

He deserves to be beaten down by DDG if that's what DDG wants to do. Of course he does. Fill your fecking boots, Dave!

He could have been waiting until the end of the season to decide or just think about it.
Even if that were the case, what is the club supposed to do? Just sit on their hands and wait until De Gea finally makes a decision? Or be proactive and be out there looking at their options themselves?

At the end of the day, the club offered him a contract and he didn't accept it. From that point on, the club were well within their rights to take the offer off the table and go in a different direction. Combine that with the most likely reason for why he wouldn't accept it (he banked on either finding another club that would offer him more or forcing us to up our offer) and I really don't get this idea of him being hard-done by with how it went down. That's not even going into the fact that it'd literally been half a decade since he was good enough for a top club (he was never the same after the 2018 World Cup).
