That's your opinion. It seems Conte might not agree.

The idea that he's not a good defender is hilarious, we won the fecking Champions League with this guy in our defense!

Or indeed Conte has been presented with Luiz as a resolution, with time against them.

We'll all enjoy Luiz's unique, own-brand of defending. He'll be culpable on more than one occasion this season.

He really doesn't feck up as much as people think he does, but when he does its usually really dramatic and memorable.

Honestly, his errors seem to get far more scrutiny than other defenders who does the same frequently.

Yeah there has been a lot of that. On the odd occasion he actually does feck up though, he does it big style (much as I love his crazy face).

He's decent but has never been worth the kind of sums he's moved for, even with the crazy prices that are so common these days.

Has he matured at all since joining PSG or is he still making those silly errors at the back?

Were Chelsea ever linked with Mr. Shkodran? I would think if Arsenal could get him, Chelsea could've definitely got him.

Same as every defender in the league then. The only sure thing about Luiz is that if he makes a mistake, it will get picked on a lot more than someone like Cahill.

He can have some great games in fairness and I felt he got a harsh time from English media at times but I've no doubt in my mind he'll make an absolute balls of a few games. I'd be happy for him to be marking Zlatan when we play them.

Some people are old fashioned and still care about things like your CB not occasionally completely losing his mind..
I'm glad you see the funny side of it, no matter what his performances are like he'll certainly bring in some entertainment and he seems like a really excellent bloke as well, not a bad signing at all.

I believe he has been signed for one reason alone, and that's to do a job on Ibrahimovic and that's it. Conte wants to win the league in his first season.

I get that you're defending this transfer. Why wouldn't you.

Though I suspect that you know, like the rest of us, that this is a deal reflective of Chelsea's increasing urgency for a defensive signing. Chelsea have been searching for centre backs all summer, only to find themselves re-signing a player they let go, with only a few hours left.

Still don't think we'll go for a back 3.

My guess is: 4-3-3

You make it sound like we released him on a free, rather than accepting the highest transfer fee for a defender in the history of the universe.

We might be spunking 30 odd million back for him but the market has changed, every cnut costs £30 million nowadays.

He has so much ability but think the problem has always been that he goes off script and does his own thing too much, rather then the howlers which can happen to any player. For such a detailed, intense coach like Conte you have to wonder if it's going to work and if so for how long.

Think he has the ideal manager now to bring him to a higher level of CB

Nonsense.

He's been coached by Mourinho, Ancelotti, Blanc and Benitez. You don't get better managers that can help defenders than that.

Yep. The fee is really par for the course in today's market. They are getting a defender who is PL proven and even more importantly someone who knows the Club. Plus while his brainfarts are pretty spectacular, he still is a pretty decent defender IMO.

With Luiz you either laugh or have a mental breakdown. He very quickly became one of the fans favourite players ever though more for his personality than anything strictly football related. He's genuinely lovely, silly, frustrating and wonderful all at the same time. He'll give the team absolutely everything, and have his heart on his sleeve the whole time. I wanted him as our captain after JT, regardless of his occasionally inexplicable lapses of concentration. Despite the money we got for him, I was genuinely gutted when we sold him.

Your response doesn't do anything to address what I've said. I didn't even mention the transfer fee, it's irrelevant.

Courtious
Cahill - Terry - Luiz
Azpi - Kante - Matic - Alonso
Willian - Costa - Hazard

At a guess

How is Oscar still making the starting XI?
Conte has admired him for years and wanted him at Juventus. To be fair, in 2 of our first 3 matches he's been very good. Hard working, tackles, and solid in attack.

He and Cesc will compete for that 3rd midfield spot.

I must admit I'm going to enjoy his blunders every other week. Hopefully costing Chelsea the top spot :D

What you said didn't really need addressing did it? That we've left it late is a statement of fact. I was just pointing out that we didn't simply "let him go", we sold him for a world record fee.

Didn't Mourinho sell Luiz because he wasn't that good?
No, he sold him because he fancied Cahill and JT as a partnership (which was justified as they were the best CB partnership in the league that season) and because PSG offered a ridiculous amount that we couldn't possibly turn down.
