What a stupid signing

It'll be frustrating to watch Luiz get taken apart by mediocre strikers and cost us points.

You gotta love this transfer.

My first choice would be to promote one of our youngsters to compete with Zouma, Terry and Cahill but that's seemingly not going to happen.

We're short in that position, he knows the club and is very well liked by the players who were there when he was. I'd rather Luiz than take a chance on some random big money signing who has never played in the Prem before.

He might make a monumental brain fart every 20 games but for the other 19, he's great.

He is really not.

Surprised so many fellow CFC fas are excited over the news. I guess they tend to remember his larger than life personality and some great goals Luiz scored for us and choose to ignore his many faults.

I remember his faults, but he just makes me happy as a fan. :)

Loving the arm chair expert comments on Luiz. Its as if Conte hasn't a clue about managing.

Not a whole lot of options and you seem to have had difficulties getting a top defender in.

He's not the worst choice and Chelsea do need someone thats for sure.

Good thing we got Bailly done early.

I repeat everyone take down RedCafe because the manager knows best, no discussion should be held. All hail Conte who can do no wrong.

Good managers make mistakes too. Maybe he is well aware that Luiz is mistake prone defender but is ready to risk it to considering there aren't many CBs he can sign.

Many of us said the same when he was signing for PSG that they were idiots for signing him and it turned out to be true. Many also said he is going to be found out for Brazil sooner or later in biggest games and that turned out right too. I guess people just watch him enough to know what kind of a defender he is.

I guess we'll see who's right in a year time.

He is clearly one of the best ball playing cb in the world..just what we miss right now. Perfect partner to Terry Cahill Ivan or Zouma. Conte getting him to play 3-5-2 some games clearly. Kante Matic Oscar or Mikel can really protect him pretty well. You guys are forgetting we won the cl with Luiz and Cahill playing as cbs half fit. I am all for this signing. Love it. He always scores in big games vs Utd and City.

Even the ones who make mistakes from time to time are light years more qualified than your random internet punters with agendas against certain players.

If Conte can coach some Italian defensive know how and positioning sense into him, then maybe he'll be a good signing. I'd be devastated if we signed him however, and can't understand why he would be rated by anyone (even if just for his batsh*t crazy World Cup semi final performance).

Nuff said.

Nuff said my arse. Unless you're managed at a professional level you are not qualified to get inside a manager's mind to figure out what they want out of a player.

Who took the jam out of your doughnut?

Underrated imo. Yes, can make mistakes but nowhere near as bad as he's made out. Not sure if he's what Chelsea needed though.

What does this transfer say about PSG?? They have lost some big players in this transfer window. Seems people want to jump ship? Next we will be re-signing Di Maria :D

Has there ever been a worse player had so much spent on him not once, not twice but 3 times (granted only by 2 dipshit clubs)

That's an interesting point, it looks like they've toned down the ambition alright.

No one. Its just tedious listening to the self-reinforcing group think about certain players.

Luiz isn't very good at defending, though. And his bad games turn into horror shows. We've all watched him in enough games over the years to form a reasoned opinion.

Personally, I think this is a poor investment and as a United supporter I'm quite pleased. Chelsea are lacking at the back and I don't think they've done a great job at sorting that out.

I am not sure who said they aren't.

How about we eliminate you from Red Cafe and continue posting as normal.
Sorry Raoul, I just find it annoying when this is a forum and we can discuss anything we like yet when someone comes out with "the manager knows best" we are immediately not allowed to say anything.

Otherwise there wouldn't be a forum to discuss football in the first place, if you get what I mean.

You haven't watched that much David Luiz then. When he concentrates (which is far less often than a normal human would) he is composed, has amazing passing range, outstanding tackling and is just generally class personified. Oh and then occasionally he'll run up field and belt in a goal from 40 yards just for kicks. The reason PSG paid so much for him is that Good David Luiz is someone every team in the world would want. If they could just find a way to get rid of Bad David Luiz.
Interesting way of saying he's a mediocre defender who is good is going forward. You cant get rid of "Bad David Luiz" because David Luiz himself isn't great at defending.

I said underrated not underpriced. And underrated by fans certainly. This forum is a good example.
I wouldn't say he's underrated at all, and in my eyes if clubs are willing to pay such fees for him it's definitely a correlation to how highly he's rated in general. So far in this thread I've seen people call him one of the world's best ball playing CB's, and a player who can be the 'best defender ever' on his day, and has 19 out of 20 great games, etc.

If anything, he's both overrated and underrated. Or, quite simply divides opinion due to his play-style.

Alonso is a poor signing as well... He who played for Bolton
