He must not have seen the guy standing beside malacia with that pass in the first half

3 great saves kept us in it, 2 from Antonio and 1 from a header

Important saves.

Nice to see SAF giving him an award at the start of the game too.

One terrible moment with the kick straight to a WH player and 3 great saves. Helped that Antonio is shite with his finishing at the moment but any of that went in and we probably went out.

Fine performance overall today.

No doubt he's our legend but he should be a back up keeper, his passing and sweeping is just so bad any decent keeper good at it like Raya should make us 10-15% better. Mostly we will be heading to dominating more and more games and need a keeper to keep us in possession or sweep when needed when we leave too much space behind.

Not even mentioning claiming zero crosses and being useless at penalties..

That being said he still made saves today but on the other day couldcost us with the terrible passing.

People will gush about his saves which came to be in part because we can't control games but he ought to be replaced in the summer otherwise we'll never be able to control games even against minnows. His poor distributions leads to the ball being given away and us chasing the ball for good chunks when that could be avoided by simply having a keeper who doesn't needlessly waste possession and hands it to oppositions for them to pass around.

I watched some sequences carefully and the saves he made were all good and all but they came to be after the ball was needlessly handed to Westham when we had possession of it. We were moving the ball around, decided to reset all the way back to DeGea. At that point he could have easily gotten the ball to one of the fullbacks if he was more confident in his passing but instead hoofed it because the centerbacks were pressed on thus didn't have any angles in the middle. Options were out wide for a more accurate and confident passer of the ball.

After his hoofing West Ham gets the ball and a few sequences later they have a dangerous shot on goal which DeGea ended up saving. Now it all looks awesome for him but we wouldn't have been in that position in the first place if he helped us control the game by not needlessly hoofing, and distributing it poorly back to Westham players.

Clueless. Raya making us 10-15 % better is an utterly weird statement. Something you can only see on CAF. Astonishing

Same place that idolized Ronaldo for a decade but will want De Gea replaced for poor kicking in the midst of some fine goalkeeping performances. It's going to be amazing to see everyone eat crow when he does leave though.

The flair players will get all the plaudits tonight...but David kept United in that match.

Sure he is just doing his job, but West Ham would have been 2/3 goals ahesd by the time United got going without big dave.

Doesn’t make a huge mistake = good game? If West Ham had a braver player on the ball they would have taken a shot and scored from that pass, also his chances of saving the Benrahma shot increases if he uses his arms

He had a good game because he made big saves, hardly his fault the West Ham players didn't do their job, the West Ham goal happened because some of our players didn't do their job

So your argument is that he wasn't that good because if something completely different had happened he would've let in another goal?

Some good saves, a moment of poor distribution and had me worried when the commentator said he looked like he injured his arm- I think it was nothing though.

Their keeper came for a cross and left an open goal to let us back in the game. I'm glad De Gea stays on his line.

None of our outfield players lost the ball, no? It's all our goalies fault that we can't keep the ball?

Was there any terrible defending that led to the chances De Gea saved? Is that his fault as well?

The marginal benefit of having a GK who can play like a 3rd CB is not worth it IMO.
The new keeper would be a downgrade on shot stopping no doubt.

United legend, he’s stuck by us for the most part, we should return the favour

It’s mad the amount of criticism de Gea is getting compared to say Weghorst (had a good game tonight).
De Gea is the least of our issues in current form.

Another game with terrible distribution and some real good saves. I guess it's right Dave saves but he can't pass to save his life.

The guy saw that a West Ham player was running into the left side, where he wanted to kick the ball, for at least a couple of seconds, but still kicked it in that direction anyway.

All you need to know about him is his ability to distribute the ball and control situations in the box.

How anyone wants DDG replaced baffles me. He's the best shot stopper in the PL by a mile and isn't error prone.

Stuck with us because he was forced to, if it wasn’t for a fax machine error he’d be at Madrid. And then we decided to offer him money no other goalkeeper in the history of football has ever seen. I think we have definitely returned the favour

He simply isn’t though. Not sure where you’ve plucked this from, maybe you don’t watch other keepers. And there’s more to it than shot stopping
100%.
I think he's irreplaceable. He's saved us so often

You mean he makes saves that other keepers can make?

Because Weghorst is a stop gap who also allows the team to play better. De Gea makes the team play worse there’s no 2 ways about that.
you're just a wum
Nope. Not at all. I think if people realise the saves he makes are so common for other keepers, you have a below average goalkeeper.

But of course the saves he makes aren't that common which you would know if you didn't have an agenda

People in here are seriously claiming he's no better than Roy Carroll yet there's "no agenda".

You're too biased in this debate. You exaggerate far too much.

People don't realize that it's very difficult to change your starting GK, what do you do if the new signing does a Claudio Bravo or Fabien Barthez?
De Gea won't stay as a sub.
I think he's still good and can play for a couple of more years, if he only would train his passing.

Stick that he gets here is unbelievable. People would replace him with Raya, Martinez, Pope....

Do you think Brentford, Villa or Newcastle would replace Raya, Martinez or Pope with De Gea given the chance?

He’s definitely trying to come off his line more to sweep although not for crosses still. When he arrived I remember he was great with the ball at feet but we never played that way and he regressed - I’ve been a critic but he’s having a good season, just needs to cut out the passing errors.
