Felt it coming, but then Casemiro intervened and stopped fate itself:

there's been a keeping mistake in both CL games on both sides, getting nervous for DDG tomorrow :nervous:

The most typical old-school terrible game from him today. mostly bad with the ball, not just the obvious one but a few others too, couldn't save a mediocre pen...
But a close range header flying at goal? there's only one outcome.

Really should’ve done better for the pen, neutral impact for the rest (horrific giveaway canceled out by that miraculous close range save).

Not sure if the stats back it up, but I feel like he always has a mistake in him when playing Spanish teams. Like he is trying too hard to prove himself after latterly being dropped by Spain and initially being criticised for not being Saint Iker.

Once again the question is begged, which keeper that will be realistically available in the summer can make the save he made from Kounde’s header?

I’m assuming this is a sarcastic post? Every half decent goalkeeper could, they might not make it look as extravagant

If you want to pass from the back, have control in possesion etc. he has to go, even lack of commading an read with world class saves, his distribuion is just piss poor

Mixed bag. Bernabeau in 2013 was his best or top 3 performances ever. In the miserable game away vs Sevilla, he made a better version of tonight's save from the header.

Villareal final was the nightmare penalty shootout. And Barca 0-3 was a season defining mistake last time, and an error on the opening goal this time.

Yep. At first I thought it was an unreal save, but he was pretty much stood right under it.

I like de Gea. Great shot stopper, but we need more than that.
Yeah we do. He's made a decent fist of it this season and has improved slightly on certain aspects. However, we need a lot more from a keeper than he provides. He isn't a natural fit and lacks the courage required.

Isn't it funny that GKs don't stand in the same spot for the full 90? Amazing how he was under it in the right spot when it came to the header.

His distribution is just so, so bad. Not only does he rarely seem to find an interesting or potentially advantageous option to exploit, but he also takes a fecking age to give it. Which obviously massively reduces the options he has available, but also makes it harder for the other 10 men to build something as the opposition have so much time to get back into position. A legend of the club but we should be moving on from him.

Come on man. Then why did he let their first goal in at Nou camp if he could just predict where he should be standing . He was standing in a good position today and the header was close to him . He showed good reflexes to save it . If that chance falls to a United player we are probably saying that the attacker should do better

Just seen the highlights again and I can not understand who that pass was aimed for. I think if Barca score there the tie is over

Yeah and he couldn't find a teammate all game long, but he did save one header. He should be a priority to replace the summer.

I reckon he saves one of the goals we scored today

Agree. I'm harsh on De Gea but I thought Ter Stegen's footwork or lack thereof seemed poor for both goals. Great goals for us but they weren't exactly bottom edge of the corner and full powered shots. He almost dived over them i.e didn't get down fast enough, set his feet properly or get any push from his standing leg, which is funny because that's exactly what I've criticised De Gea for in the past many a time.

Ter Stegen is a class above in playing out the back but his shop stopping has always been a bit inconsistent imo; he's had world class seasons where he's been a wall for them mind.

I guess it's not that easy to get a fundamentally sound shop stopper, who can command his area, play on the ground and organise a defence with the consistency.

Yeah that's so fair, I agree with you, lucky save so get rid

You might be onto something here

Could of claimed the cross that led to the penalty, and the cross that led to Koundes chance. But didn't instead we concede a penalty and he is forced into a good save and then a corner to defend.

Both instances he could claim the ball with little fuss and give us control of the ball.

Distribution exactly what we come to expect panicky under pressure. Distinctly average when not.

If he saves the pen people would say what a performance. Best GK in the world etc etc. Most GKs get through last night with minimal fuss without having to make many saves at all.

Diogo Costa. He's been on fire in regards to that recently, just watch the last two games highlights.

Crucial save on that Barca header. I see people comparing his distribution to Ter Stegen and I agree with some of it, but on the flipside I feel like De Gea would've saved Fred's shot.

Error on the opening goal this time?

He was standing right under it because he shifted across from the near post and postioned himself perfectly

He was so close to saving the penalty. Maybe 1 more centimeter of hand stretch and it would’ve been saved.

Made one passing mistake, but performed a huge save at 1-1. All in all a decent performance from Dave
