12 days to go until his contract runs out.
His contract is running out and he isn‘t renewing for lower wages. Now it makes sense to invest in a gk.How come you've stopped defending him and decided he needs to go?
Was hoping we’d make more progress with the Da Costa link. The best business we can do this summer (other than a striker) is to let him walk, free ourselves of his ridiculous £375,000 a week wages and replace him with someone not so fecking meek.
We need to be balls deep in Onana.
I think that’s what they’ll ultimately offer in a bid to release him.If DDG is getting offered 2nd choice wages, I think he will go to Saudi Arabia.
I do wonder if we (or at least ETH) knew he didn't want to keep him, but because everything went down to the last game we were worried about De Gea falling apart or destroying his confidence and costing us if we made it official while the season was still going. De Gea does have a tendency to struggle when the pressure is on. Hell, he ended up costing us in the FA Cup final anyway.Whatever happens, its a shit show, that should have been concluded earlier.
If he leaves, hes gone (which imo is great for the club) but for him and the fans, cant really have a proper goodbye. Whether hes a legend or not, is up to you and your own definition. Hes been a long standing servant though (over 10 years). And he has the record for most clean sheets and has won a league with us / multiple POTY.
Maybe, that's a good theory and makes sense. The worry would be if we knew we didn't wanna keep him and haven't really put much in motion to replacing himI do wonder if we (or at least ETH) knew he didn't want to keep him, but because everything went down to the last game we were worried about De Gea falling apart or destroying his confidence and costing us if we made it official while the season was still going. And now we don't want to make it official as soon as the season is over and make it look like we were negotiating in bad faith, so we're letting it go a few weeks. Plus having him still as an option might help us in negotiations for a new #1.
If he does leave I presume he will get a testimonial so we can have a proper goodbye, whether this off-season or in 12 months if we can't organise it in time.
A bit farcical if true
A lot of details missing. DDG wants to stay and be paid his current wage. United are delaying because they want him to stay on a much lower wage. It's just business.
I’m not up to date with this because I expected him to sign a new deal12 days to go until his contract runs out.
A serious club would have simply given DDG until the end of last season to accept the new contract. If he’d said no they should have immediately started the recruitment process for his successor. Being held to ransom by one of our worst performing and most overpaid players is ridiculous. You obviously can't blame him, in his position I'd love nothing more than another year at my ludicrous salary.
There's a definite game of chicken going on, if we don't sign another goal keeper then it's possible that the club blinks first and activates the extension.

This is the issue we're now creating. If De Gea leaves before another keeper comes in then clubs will take us to ransom.
If agents do their job well any replacement goalkeeper will be getting a ludicrous salary as well.
We have an option to extend his contract by a further year, on his current salary, but if we don’t activate the option he leaves. It’s not an auto-renewalI’m not up to date with this because I expected him to sign a new deal
What actually happens if no new deal is agreed by July 1st? Does his contract roll over or would he be officially gone?

Please for once in our lives, be decisive, get the new keeper in and let DDG go.
Not much has made sense with the Glaziers has it though. Seems to have slightly improved since their lapdog left the club and Arnold came in.This. Now is the right time to do it. Hopefully sense prevails.
I don't think we'll see much transfer activity until the new owner is agreed, so get ready for a messy / stressful summer transfer windowThe fact that there is such a situation at all is a mess.
Henderson is stuck in limbo, because of the DDG situation, and because of both these situations, we are not clear if we will go for a new keeper or not.
A Leno who was booted out of Arsenal for not being good enough on the ball no less
It would be absolutely ludicrous offering him a years extension.
Actually hadn’t realised just how much his contract was worth, til seeing he’d eagerly signed the current deal back in 2019, amid all the other lunacy that defined the Ole/ Woodward/Judge, era.
The first time in years we’ve shown some common sense you meanA bit farcical if true
I think they’re in for a shock when they realise he’s also worse than most of the championships Gk’s too.At this point our analysis team will have to compare him with championship players to show that he is better than someone.
The delay and lack of decisive action is the farcical bit. Common sense would be letting him go without dithering. The first time in years we’ve shown some common sense you mean
The delay and lack of action is an action. It’s a clear message to De Gea that we’re not sure, based on your performances, you’re worth this new contract, and along with the manager we need time to discuss whether we should go ahead and sign a new first team GK or a back up GK.The delay and lack of decisive action is the farcical bit. Common sense would be letting him go without dithering.
Someone else mentioned it might be planned with DDG to allow him to leave with dignity, he is a long serving first team player. I don’t actually think that’s a crazy idea, it’s a new dawn for us under ETH but there’s no reason to kick players out (i.e. brief the media he’s not wanted) if we can let them leave in a professional manner. The delay and lack of decisive action is the farcical bit. Common sense would be letting him go without dithering.
