I think if you sell Deano off this summer, we’ll free up some wages there because we gave him like £110k a week unsurprisingly (no doubt thanks to two guys called Edward and Matthew). Those wages and DDG’s slashed wages will go towards the new guy, with DDG being the domestic cup keeper for the season and he leaves after that. I’d be content with that.

Assuming if this news comes to fruition , Murtough would be first one out of the door once the ownership changes and Ten Hag would duly follow him before the end of next season if he is stupid enough to rely on De Gea as No 1 next season.

No he wasn’t. He’d been great from pretty much when he arrived up to the end of 2018; six years if you don’t count his first year acclimatising to the league. But that disastrous World Cup in 2018 seriously dented his confidence and he was pretty awful the entire season following.
It was at the end of that awful season that in true Woodward style we gave him the huge pay rise
The reports that the club wants to move him on and it’s only ETH that wants to keep him have a number of possible explanations. How about:
- The press are talking out of their collective arse.
- It’s true and ETH genuinely rates him, or at least regards getting rid of others first as more important.
- The club and ETH are actually in agreement, but Arnold/Murtough have stepped forward to take the flak. Dave has plenty of ardent fanboys and ETH won’t be popular if he’s shipped out.
Im not disagreeing with you btw, im just saying thats what people were saying around the time he got his contract extension. It made no sense then,its even more baffling now if we sign him.
If hes a starter, were looking at the same issues of trying to dominate games (in that we will struggle, even with Varane, Martinez back, Shaw back to LB, a better striker etc)

If were offering this to DDG, fair play to him, why should he turn it down? I cant wait to see what the wages are. Even if they are 100k, its mad to have a second choice keeper on that, if thats what happens (and it wont)
This feckin owner takeover is the biggest piss take. We have no clarity at all in terms of whats happening, when it will happen and its going to feck up our transfer window.

We continue to be a terribly run football club. Really thought ETH would make a difference, but he is sliding down the same hill as everyone else.
It is. The club can focus on bigger issues and our actual problems, like scoring goals.
Binning DDG off and receiving no fee would have meant potentially dipping into funds desperately needed elsewhere. Which would have been unacceptable.
We rank 10th for goals scored.
We rank 5th for goals conceded.
We rank first for clean sheets.
It's blatantly obvious where we are dropping most points. The hysterical reactions to anything DDG does when we can't hit a barn door are boring and until we start putting the ball on the net with far more consistency, it won't matter at all who the keeper is.

There was never going to be that much money to bring in a new GK. I think it’s positive, still allows the chance to either bring in someone to compete who is happy to rotate or shape a GK for the future eg Kovar.
This is massively deflating and feels like the write off of another season. The only hope is he’s our number 2.
PR stunt, very suspicious timing considering it clearly says only the framework of the deal has been agreed yet hasn't been signed of by the club. Which surely means it hasn't actually been agreed.

I am one of his biggest critics this season, but I don't mind him as backup goalkeeper. His value is at all time low probably, so there's a chance we have a good deal here.

I like Dave. If he wants to stay as competition/mentorship for the new keeper that seems fine.
i def get the disappointment, was hoping to get a new gk in here (and still may). At same time if you go back to the brighton/west ham games, if our attackers could simply hit the fecking target couldve and shouldve had 3-4 goals easily in the first halves of those games before we went to shit.
Yeah but you can also argue that if we took the chances that we really should have scored from then DDG's howler wouldn't have mattered

Not winning and not losing are two different things though.
Although the first bolded part is true, I think you may be overly optimistic with the 2nd part.
United did this last season long before ETH was here, personally I think it's stupid because pretty much every team puts 2 players on the 18 yard line and puts pressure on straightaway

We do see it, we just don't see it as the main priority. Neither to the club seemingly. We are horrendous in front of goal and our midfield can't retain the ball.
He's worth nothing either way.

A new number one and De Gea staying as number two on reduced wages would be perfect for me. He would be a quality backup keeper.

Nah it's fine. For a club as successful in the last couple of years as ours it's totally ok to wait and fix the issue from 5 years ago. It's a process you have to remember.
It makes sense. He's out of contract in the summer, Hendo will likely be sold + have no reserve keeper. Keeping him for another year or 2 isn't the worst decision. What else are we going to do, roll into the new season without a recognized keeper?
