The unfortunate but necessary question to ask, would the defensive calamities happened at our most serious rivals, somehow couldn’t see Citeh and Arsenal would give up such goals. That underlines the absolute necessity of replacing Maguire and regrettable DeGea, and ask real questions re Sancho, Martial and Lindelof. Probably not realistic to replace them all in one off season, but their time is up if we are to start mixing it with the big boys.

Re sign De Gea. Give Maguire to whoever will take him and sign 2 more decent CB's. Slow, shit defending has been our most glaring weakness for years.

DDG getting so much shit but we could have had the best keeper in history tonight and wouldn’t win that game, we had another ten outfield players and couldn’t create a scoring chance in 90 minutes

Had a massive hand in conceding a goal after 8 mins and right after half time. Massive momentum killer, which swung in their favour.

We didn't look threatening and that's partly because Sevilla had it handed to them on a plate.

I didn't see anything wrong with the quality of pass. It just never should have happened

It was a terrible pass. It was slow, shaky & bobbling all over the place, by the time it reached Maguire he was being hounded by three players. Granted he should have still dealt with it like a professional fecking footballer but it’s Harry Maguire so what do we expect.

Had De Gea played the pass with a bit of conviction & fizz it would have at least given Maguire a bit more time to deal with it. Granted, he may still have fecked it up because he’s Harry Maguire. But ultimately it was a complete cockup by the both of them.

He’s our best player for many seasons. But we need to treat him like someone who is retiring. He served us superbly most of the time. Time to say goodbye, unfortunately.

Since the start of last season, according to Opta, no Premier League player has made more errors leading to an opposition goal in all competitions than De Gea’ - BBC

Giving him a new contract will be another dumb decision made by the club unless he signs a new contract worth 100k or less just for “resell value”. Hoping when Qatar takes over, we are more ruthless with these players and not just hoarding on to them for much longer than they are needed.

I don't mind us replacing DDG but imo it's a bit too daft to blame DDG for the first goal. His pass was accurate and on the correct side if you look at the position of the opponent players. There's also plenty of time, space and options for Maguire to deal with. Maguire simply had another brainfart and again, imo it's a bit too daft to blame that on DDG.

Really? It was slow and behind where Maguire was moving to, meaning Maguire had to check his run and by the time it got to him he was completely shut down. A quicker pass into Maguire's stride would still have been dangerous but nowhere near as bad.

Can they not both be a bit crap?

But it is accepted that we overpaid for Maguire and he is the butt of every joke out there. DDG does not get the same treatment (and I want him to get the bullying) but at least the criticism in mainstream media. He's been a poor keeper, an above average shot stopped and has been hiding in mediocrity for ages now.

Thanks to him we are still in cl spot though.
How are we in a CL spot thanks to a player who is statistically one of the worst goalkeepers in the league this season? Any metric. Shot stopping is below average for 5 years now when you take it all into account. Passing out from the back average at best. Claiming crosses he is literally targeted by every single team that plays us. Sweeping, well we saw how well that went today.

We are in a CL spot despite having a bottom half level goalkeeper and championship level output at striker.

From now on till the end of the season, no amount of great reactive saves will make me wanna have him as a keeper for next season.
If ETH wants to persist with this inadequate style with some of the players we have, DDG needs to feck off

Difficult to know. Goals change games. That early goal knocked our confidence and also pumped up the opposition and the crowd. If we’d slowed the game down successfully in the first 15 minutes and took the sting out, it could have panned out differently.

I think he's earned (and keeps earning) enough credit with his shot stopping to not be the top most priority for replacement, though we would need someone who's miles better with the ball at his feet long term.

I think the issue is - him and Maguire bring out the worst of each other and our defense and are simply incompatible together. Don't think Maguire has ever earned any credit at all to keep his spot. I'd rather play a youth academy player instead.

No he hasn't not for long time now yes he occassionally makes great saves but so does every other keeper , combined with his other limitations if Murtough extends his contract he should be first one out of the door once Club is sold .

Goals change games and quality players affect others in terms of performances. Our players are playing in isolation from each other so yeah the best keeper in his history would have significantly improved our chances

He's done this in so many big games over the last few years I've lost count. And yet there are people here who cream themselves because he makes the odd great save against average opposition while you just know in a big game he's going to mess up.

Honestly fans who still defend him deserve this kind of shite.

Those many seasons were many seasons ago.
He would not have a sniff at the starting eleven in a proper squad, like at Pep’s city, for over five years now.

Can people just stop with the shot stopping ability bs? How many times do you want to face embarrassment?

We just need Sevilla game to the list of "ignored games" and we can keep pretending he's having a good season.

We will find it difficult to replace him this next season. We have more pressing priorities, so I can see him as first choice for another season or 2, depending on finances and takeover situation.

He's a fantastic decent to the club but more and more such performances is a very worrying sign.

Having said that, Varane, Martinez and shaw playing in front of you v/s having Maguire is a huge huge drop off and would make any gk nervous

Ten hag would lose his job if he is still here as no 1 next season .

It was terrible, bobbly, slow and behind Maguire, he even had to check his movement to tryband deal with it.

I know it's Maguire, but a better ball and that goal doesn't happen.

If the opportunity arises to sign someone more suitable we can’t ignore it.

What we saw last night is exactly what we saw under OgS, a vast majority of this squad, DdG included, are good enough to get you to a point but when a game requires them to stand up they go to crap.

We’ll be here again next season if he stays, sort of far in the cups then bam! Chucklevision.

Thanks to him we are still in cl spot though.

Oh god. This myth really needs to die. DDG isn’t keeping us in anything, he hasn’t for about 5 years now. He single-handedly cost us top 4 a few years ago and since then and probably the 2018 World Cup he’s been more and more error strewn.

Not only that. The defence lacks a goalkeeper that is commanding so everyone drops back for free kicks, corners, crosses because they’re well aware DDG isn’t doing shit. Look at how the opposition take corners against United. They know DDG is too weak to collect any ball so they just bombard the 6 yard box as DDG flaps about causing chaos.

He also can’t start attacks or fast breaks when he gets the ball because his distribution is shocking. The amount of times he apologises for not releasing the ball sooner is bonkers.

His so called super shot stopping could be avoided if the defence didn’t have to retreat so far back but even still, his shot stopping is declining. So what are we left with?

Sevilla's first last night wasn't his fault. Maguire just needed to turn and he'd have taken three Sevilla players out of the game.

Everything else though. Serious questions need to be asked. Especially for Sevilla's third.

Considering his age and experience, De Gea's ability to cope with big games is poor. We have seen this. Over and over. When it comes to knock outs you cannot trust his decision making. His panic levels rise to ridiculous levels.

When you add DeGea's panic to Maguire's... Kryptonite.

Yeah let's include the worst season in the premier league we've ever had to serve an agenda. 2 big Pete's wouldn't have had great stats last season FFS.

What about this season? The one that actually counts right now?

Let's put it another way, if last season we won the quad and this season we where a mess would the stats include last season? No because it doesn't serve the anti DDG agenda

Thinking about De Gea’s mistake for the third goal again, it’s like some sort of nightmare dream if you had been picked to play in goal for United and you’d no idea what you were doing. It’s the sort of shit you’d do and then wake up in a cold sweat.

He was a great passer when we signed him though. It's what he was best known for at the time, to the point where he got the nickname Van der Gea at Atlético.

Somehow that passing ability completely disappeared over the years.
Jose.

He didn’t want his goalie to play football. He just wanted the ball hoofed as hard as possible. If that led to lost possession, so what?
