Danny Rose | Rose: "I will play up North before I retire"

When, not if, Spurs are forced to sell their best players because they're unhappy with being paid less than everywhere else, it's going to be glorious on here

A certain Spurs fan might disappear for a while too.

The media have been pushing this narrative for several years now and they are loving it. Rose imo has been a complete moron to go to the press in the way he has. The info I am hearing is that the current story in the Sun about a 'hero's welcome' is completely false and actually the opposite of what happened. Having said that - there is no doubt this is very bad news and there is no doubt other players will be looking for bigger wages or they will want to leave. No idea what will happen but what I HOPE will happen is that we get a few players in before the end of the window, we start the season strongly on the pitch and behind the scenes we have frank conversations with all the players individually and see where we stand. We will increase our wages because we have to but whether that will be now or in the next season or two only Levy can answer that.

It could be that we really are between a rock and a hard place because we simply can't afford to pay more - if that is the case then we are screwed and several players will leave in the next year or two. I suspect though we have more cash than we let on and we can negotiate things with players that will keep things relatively stable until next season at least. Rose is a total prat though and from what I hear his agent didn't even know he was going to do this.

I wonder if, for example every time Kane was signing a new deal recently, Spurs provide a lump sum, thus rewarding loyalty but allowing them to remain inside a specific salary structure.

I don't know but I'd be shocked if we didn't have things like that going on - the wages may be lower but I'm sure we use bonuses etc. to top it up to closer to what others are getting.

Rose shouldn't be slagging off his own club and his own teammates like that, really. He's talking on the radio and to the press like he's not still at the club.

Rose will be seen as absolute hero in the dressing room. Saying what needs to be said, they'll all be thinking it, he's just been man enough to go public.

I know right? It's clearly all about the money and nothing else.

For some strange reason no one seem to believe that Spurs are a big club even though most Spurs fans keep repeating that. I mean since when a big club needs to win more then 2 leagues to be considered as so? After all that's just 18 EPL titles less then Manchester United

All Spurs players need to do is not to perform. With so much at stake Levy will have no option but to relent and let them go. That's why even the don of EPL football (SAF) would let any unhappy player go. If SAF couldn't sort that out then I doubt that Levy will.

Because of the general impression that comes over from the players. Rose's interview is an exception, not the rule.

And take a look at what's been happening with some our rivals ... Costa and Matic at Chelsea, the Sanchez saga at Arsenal, Countinho at Liverpool ...

I know that some opposition fans would like to think that Spurs are suddenly in turmoil, but it's mainly wishful thinking.

.
I actually think Rose coming out speaking is him basically saying what everyone else thinks. Think about it, Rose has gotta go back training at Spurs, so no way he comes out with the shit he has unless the majority of footballers are on his side. You wouldn't alienate yourself against your teammates/work colleagues imo...it is obvious the others think the same.

It is just the same in every work environment. You get your workers group together and chat about X Y Z ect, and what others earn at other places for doing the same job ect...then one day one worker takes it to the next level and speaks up. The others behind the scenes will congratulate him, but being the pussies they are will condemn him behind his back.

Anyway, trouble ahead for Spurs unless they start paying players accordingly.

I think I missed your point - what I meant was that if he is honest about wanting to win titles etc then Spurs are in as good a position as any other club to win it - we came second last year as you said. This to me shows it is purely about cash and nothing else - or at least it's mostly about the money

You are assuming he is a smart guy who thought this through - I hear he has decided to do this without even his agent knowing - I've also heard that although other players may be thinking the same thing re: wages and signings most are unhappy with what he has done and talk of him getting a 'heroes welcome' are far off the mark. I think he has probably been unhappy for a while, his injury hasnt helped - his mate has gone and doubled his wages at City and he has thought he would just say what he likes to the press. The comments he made included digs at his team mates - he is not going to be Mr popular.

IN a way though it makes sense and is not really greed.

Think like this is with a normal job. Imagine you got paid 1/4 of what your similarly qualified peers did at a different company. You would change company get the pay other people get fo the same job.

I know it is slightly different as Footballers earn a lot no matter how you look at it but i think the point still stands.

My assumption is that he isn't the only one with this axe to grind. I think there has been a lot of talk amongst the players about said subject and it is Rose that has come out swinging in the media. We'll see won't we?

I understand that he could be frustrated at not earning more - I get that. I also wouldnt have a problem with him trying to get a new contract or even putting in a transfer request if he wants to leave. I do have a problem with him going to the press in the way he did undermining the club, his team mates and the manager.

Like I said, I'm sure many other players in the squad feel a similar way about wages and signings - they may not be happy at all about him going to the press about it though as they appear to be a tight bunch.

I know right? It's clearly all about the money and nothing else.

That's what Southampton fans said about Koeman going to Everton. Now Everton look like they can push for Top 4 and Southampton are still struggling to hold onto their best players.

If you look at the situation objectively it's clear that a couple of seasons of over achievement doesn't mean that players would want to stay and would only leave for money. Most of the players can see that this won't last and even at your peak you haven't won any trophies while in our nadir we are still winning trophies every season, likewise Chelsea are winning things every other season regardless of their situation. These are much more attractive prospects in footballing terms.

I agree should have went about it a different way.

Well if players cant see that our results have improved year on year and have forgotten we actually ended runners up in the league last season and want to leave and go to a club that didn't then that's their choice but it is 100% about money.

Absolutely, but you have also got to realise that they might be very happy about him going to the press. Like you say, you are sure many others feel a similar way, so whether they are happy or not with Rose going to the press isn't actually what you should be worried about.

Do you really think so? Honestly I would be very surprised if Spurs managed to equal last year's achievement tbh.

a- Pep, Mou and Conte had no settled down.
b- unlike Spurs most top clubs had strengthened their side
c- there some discontent cooking up at Spurs

Don't take me wrong, I think Spurs did a good job lately. They have a decent manager, they built a solid side and they are now investing on their infrastructure which might improve their chances of competing with the big guys. However I do question their decision in not letting the likes of Rose and Dier go. I mean, its not as if, they are irreplaceable.

Considering that Spurs are not yet a top side then the last thing they need is to give the impression that they are a dead end for players. They risk of having a coup d'etat in their hands + it would seriously damage their chances of attracting young talent who see Spurs as a stepping stone to something better.

Under such circumstances I wonder if it would be better if they allow the non core players to leave and invest the £££ on bargains (Sessegnon or Barkley for example) + keeping the likes of Alli, Kane and Eriksen happy.

The way to the top can be very very painful. I still remember when United used to struggle to sign anyone outside the EPL simply because we couldn't match their current salary. Players used to either turned us flat (Batistuta) or accept to relinquish their signing on fee bonus (ex Stam) just to sign for us.

Oh yeah he will end up getting a bigger wage - but I'm sure you can understand why me as a Spurs fan might think he is a moron.

I wonder if going public with this was the only way to get the money he feels he's worth. I'd imagine it's not easy to get a raise from Daniel Levy.

I do really think so yes - you only need to look at our results and where we finished in the league in the past two years to see that we have the ability to push for the title.

He apologises for his statement(or for the timing or manner of it) and not actually the content.

You're a very optimistic guy indeed.

At least you don't have daddy issues like Glaston. ;)

Blatantly ignoring the point about future prospects, you can reiterate as much as you want that you finished 2nd and we didn't but you can't keep ignoring the fact that we are signing top players and improving every year and we are still winning major trophies during our transition phase plus the fact that you are already losing good players like Walker to bigger teams and not improving your squad really or signing top players.

What's the basis for thinking that Spurs are a better prospect going forward in terms of success and winning trophies? You don't get anything for coming second

I guess one good thing about being on lower wages is when you get fined two weeks pay it's not as expensive.

From what I read yesterday he sounds like he is still bitter at his treatment from the fans before Poch arrived.

He could now well find himself in the same situation.

On the plus side I'd be happy to get him.

Man you're quick, was just gonna post the same thing lol.

Pretty much confirming he meant to say what he did by choosing not to apologize for what was actually said.

Definitely didn't close the case shut by any means and if anything left it a bit more open than it was before.

I am optimistic by nature I guess but to be fair I have optimism as a result of how the team has performed in the past few years.

I cant talk about the future because frankly I dont own a time machine. I can only talk about what has happened up to now. Things may change in the future sure but neither you nor me know what will happen so is there any point in trying to use it as an argument?
