College Football & NFL thread 2007/8

I am still loving how bad the Packers got beat yesterday, talk about getting EXPOSED

It's gonna be funny seeing Belicunt's reaction when the Jags or Colts knock them off in front of their home crowd.

I cannot wait, he'll probably throw some sort of fit in the post game conference as well, it could quite entertaining. I really think the Jags and Colts have a good shot because they are so balanced. If you can run on New England you might have a chance, so I think SD might have a chance a well after a horrible start they have played some pretty good football, plus they have the extra incentive after New England took them down at home last year, and did the lights out celebration at midifeld after the game, I would love to see LT and Merriman run up to Bellicunt after they won, and do it right it front of him,

I am rooting for anyone but the Pats so whoever will do, I just hope someone can do it, I will be so happy to see Belicunt and Brady with egg on their face after all is said and done this season

I really hope San Diego plays New England, they Could take them down, and that is for sure, SD has an excellent defense with a lot of great athletes at corner/safety/and linebacker add to that their ends are collosal and dominant they could do something. O, and they have the best back in the league since Mr. Sanders retired

They have Norv Turner as HC.

SD could have beaten NE last January but choked. I just think that team is a bunch of bottlers.

I think both teams are more talented this year, although New England certainly has surpassed San Diego by a bit. That said SD has a top 5 RB all time, and when you can run the ball you can beat anybody. Also, New England won't eb the best home field advantage for New England this year based on how much they rely on the pass especially the deep ball. I'm not saying its probable, but it could happen and I am hoping for it.

To be fair no one is more of a bottler than Marty and he is gone, I swear Elway has a voodle doll of him, in the 87' AFC Championship game which I was at a quite a young lad, ayear after the drive Cleveland was driving and looked unstoppable to tie the game 38-38 late on, and had come back earlier so the odds looked good if they tied it and took it to overtime. They had the ball on the 8 yard line with 40 seconds left and Kosar handed it off to Byner who had been excellent in the game, best player on the field that day beside #7, and a huge hole opened too the left. It looked like Byner was gonna walk in and he did, but some little used Broncos CB Castillo I believe came out of nowhere, and stripped the ball, which you couldn't even see, no one at the game was going on and I have seen the replay on Classics and Dick Enberg actually is saying "What a run by Byner for a touch-, he fumbled the ball!!!!!!!" Class game that one was too bad the Broncs blew it in the SuperBowl but their watching their run in the late 90s was great.

Cleveland would have been humiliated in the SB by NYG and/or Washington as well. The AFC was cannon fodder in those days.

Elway was a one man show in those days, not one player has ever done as much as he as in carrying a team through the playoffs. Not Barry, not Walter, not OJ, not Montana (who had a plethora of great players around him), not Brady, not Staubach. The only other players that were so vital to their team's success are Jim Brown and Dan Marino. Though on the defensive side you could say LT, Singletary and Butkus.

Come on Giants you Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime, take out the Broncs in 1998, you better do it to the Pats this year

NE's defense is shaky at times. Teams with a good OL and a balanced run/pass offense can score points. Thing is you have to stop their offense. NYG has held them to three field goals on the four scoring drives so far when most teams would have given up at least two touchdowns on those drives. Game over at that point.

You gotta hand it to the pats, great charecter to not panic when they went two scores down in the 3rd quarter.

Giants gave em a good game though, although i can't help but think there was a touch of the "west ham's" about them in their game raising ways. I expect it to be a lot closer than what people think come the Tampa game next weekend.

On a Giants sub-note, Jeremy Shockey...it's clear to me at least that this Boss kid can catch the ball, without being premature or jumping to conclusions about him i would think that it might be worth looking to see how much New York could get for J.S despite his impact for the Giants. Wonder what other Giants fans think ?

Being an Eagles fan...i am looking straight forward to the post season, it's clear we need a reciever but will feeley take over from McNabb, will McNabb stay or will he go ? many questions..what do others think ?

I thought Kolb was the heir apparant to McNabb, although Feeley does seem to always play well in McNabb's absence.

I'm sure the Giants could get a lot for Shockey, but if I were them I'd get rid of Coughlin first.

I'd question that, a lot of great players with the issues like Shockey don't pull much in the trade market. Look at Moss, no one had any doubts about his talent, it was his attitude, and it took New England a 4th round pick to set themselves up as one of the best teams ever. I am sure there will be more of a market for Shockey since good TEs are harder to find and he is younger, but to expect anything more that a early to mid first round pick for him would be expecting too much

An early to mid first round pick could bring you quite a talent assuming they don't draft a bust.

Jimmie Johnson and Barry Switzer doing the halftime bowl, haha, How bout dem Cowboys?

watched the 2nd half of the Jayhawks vs Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl last night. close game but VT blew it with all the turnovers. both teams had some trick plays though.
btw: that Jayhawks coach looks like a heart attack wating to happen. that guy must love his burgers and fries.

 Did you see all of his assistants stop the players from dumping him with Gatorade, I wouldn't doubt it was because of health issues

I'll be in New Orleans through Tuesday morning, and since I am not taking my laptop I will be unable to check here on stuff. Here are my weekend picks.

Washington at Seattle (-3.5) - I'll take Washington to win outright (I will root for Seattle)
Jacksonville (-2) at Pittsburgh - I'll take J'ville minus the points
NY Giants at Tampa Bay (-3) - I'll take Tampa and the points
Tennessee at San Diego (-9) - I'll pick San Diego to win but Tennessee to cover

BCS (Mythical) Championship: LSU (-4) vs Ohio State - I'll take LSU and the points

Everyone is picking the Chargers. Have you forgotten NORV TURNER is their coach? They play in a terrible division, while Tennessee qualified out of the toughest in football. I'm calling the upset. (watch San Diego win by 50)

Redskins have turned it around against the Seahawks in the 4th quarter. 14-13 Redskins with about 12 minutes left.

Redskins miss a 30yard field goal. Could have taken the lead by 4 points and now they instead lose their momentum.

Jags are starting to dominate and getting a pretty good lead early.

What a great game that was, one thing is for sho Garrard needs to step up if they are to beat New England, who they will play if heavily favored San Diego beat the Titans. Have to say Jax has two very, very good lines that will fare well against New England, the question is will they be able to contain Moss and Co.

It will be interesting to watch. Who is on tonight?

I'm impressed by how cool Garrard is when he's under pressure, didn't panic a single time. And that run he made when it was 4th down and about 7 yards to go won them the game.

I wanted TB to win so my Cowboys could dry bum the gnomes Bucs all the way to oblivion. But I don't mind seeing them lose.

AFC
Pats-Jags
Colts-Bolts

NFC
Cowboys-GMen
Packers-Hawks

had to think for a minute there, who were the Hawks...

some good matchups there. this is the time of year i get into the NFL. the rest of the year I dont pay much attention.

btw: Anyone else bowl-ed out. Is tonights LSU-OSU the last one? If so, thank God.

I heard last night an ESPN guy saying that Tulsa (?) beat someone "comprehensively", the score was 63-7 ffs. It was a blowout of gigantic proportions. Glad I didn't waste 4 hrs on it.
