I’m not sure if it’s genuine rose-tinted glasses because I like him and still have his excellent first season in my mind, but I still think there’s a place for him and with the correct tactical set-up he still has something to offer - not as a certified first team player but he can definitely contribute still.

Legs have gone and still prone to some terrible hospital passes but technically decent and somewhat useful if not playing as a #6 and with a defensively astute midfield partner.

Obviously his wages are high and if a Saudi club came in with a good fee then United should probably accept though.

Mixed bag. Did some great things but still got a shit pass in him in dangerous areas, or a late tackle. You grimace every time he goes in. He's better with Ugarte next to him.

He was awful for most of the first half, poor passing and all over the place. Grew into the game and was much better second half.

Thought he did well today . Has a few brain farts with the ball at his feet though.

On a separate note what was with the kneeling/ crouching down with Onana not looking at the penalty. We’re languishing just above relegation and below midtable in November. Hardly cup final stuff going on. A bit OTT for me . Might look good for the 75,000 watching perhaps

Sums it up perfectly for me

Given that he is here right now we might as well also come up with a plan to make use of him. That being said, that must not come at the price of our longterm planning of the midfield. We simply can't afford that sort of sentimentality. He seems like a very good guy, not shy to put his body on the line but he is so not the future of our midfield that we should have good reasons for giving minutes to him. Him being the best midfielder in 14th placed ManUtd just doesn't have much meaning.

Looks like he's lost some weight which is helping him. He's definitely adjusting his game as he's not rushing into tackles realizing that he's not quick enough for that. Matic like performances these past couple of games.

I know people loved him exploding at Garnacho, but the reaction came across to me more as frustration at (or more cynically, an attempt to distract from) his shit attempt at a tackle.

From the angle I've seen on socials, it looks like Garnacho tracks back albeit not rapidly, because it seems Casemiro and Ugarte (I think) have Neto covered.

Nah, he was half jogging back. What angered me is that he had so many options of what to do with the ball, release it early, pass it to an open team mate, and he kept it too long. When he attempted the pass, it was easily intercepted, and then he started his half-jogging. I understand Casemiro's reaction. You bust a gut running back to fix your mistake. Simple as.

Don't think it was the tracking back. It was being selfish in the first place, not playing the right pass, then giving it away cheaply.

I think the team needs more of that Casemiro reaction.

Tried his best to give Chelsea the lead first half. Good pass for the penalty and good to see him lay into Garnacho.

Was nothing to do with the tracking back, it was his horrendous decision to hold onto the ball and refusal to pass it to any of three blatantly better options than running it himself. Not only did he not pass it, his attempt at shielding the ball was pathetic and he lost it too easily. I’m delighted someone finally gave him a tongue lashing. Way overdue. And I’m a huge fan of Garnacho.
I think a huge reason why players don’t develop and older players regress so rapidly at this club is because no players in the squad give a bollocking during games, no one sets standards.

Put him in Italy and he’s best midfielder in the league. Maybe with a back 3 he can shine for a few more years because his quality is obvious.

He’s so classy on the ball. Talent wise he’s a cut above the rest of our players really, Bruno included. Only Mazraoui has the same level of consistently good touch/pass/movement in to space that you expect of an elite player. He was miles off it last year but this season he’s been back to how he was in the first year. Seems like a humble guy for all he’s won and if he wants to hang around and Amorim can find a space for him then I’m happy if he sees his contract out.

He might do a job against PAOK, Leicester, Barnsley etc., but he is huge liability against every well drilled midfield.

Those one touch passes over the defence are absolutely lethal. Right back to his first season form.

Yes, he's playing really well and is a danger to the opposition with heading ability.

@rimaldo in a rare moment of seriousness made a very good point that Casemiro has done all his best work alongside Ugarte and Eriksen, who are both completely different players but are experienced central midfielders that get the basics right in terms of positioning and tracking runners (for 60ish minutes in Eriksen’s case)

Mainoo is an incredible talent but does all his best work on the ball. He still has a lot to learn about where he needs to be when we’re not in possession. So that could be as big a factor in Casemiro’s struggles last season as any tactical choice by the manager.

He’s been decent no matter where he’s played this season. And no matter who he’s played with. He’s having a decent season. This isn’t all just some tactical master stroke by Ruud.

decent? wasn't too decent v Liverpool, our biggest rivals, he was woeful, subbed after 45 mins, responsible for 2 of their goals. Had a poor half v Spurs, albeit coming on that 2nd half was tough in a game we were being dominated, but still, with his experience, his performance was still abject. First half v Chelsea, he gifted them 2 opportunities, one chance, was his poor pass, which should have led to a goal, the 2nd was a poor pass from Onana to him. We've now come to the realization that our highest paid player cannot play in the defensive role he was bought for, due to an inability to track runners, wayward passing in the defensive third and rash challenges in dangerous areas. Even if he was decent as you say, is that a good return for what he is paid. He has looked good v Leicester 2nds, and PAOK. We need to see that against decent opposition though, he played a good pass to Hojlund for the penalty in the Chelsea game, but that masked an otherwise poor performance, where he gifted them chances and lost possession in good areas taking too long on the ball. Hopefully the new manager can elevate his game and the teams in general, as decent isn't good enough for any of them.

He's benefitting hugely from having Ugarte to share the workload with in midfield. Looks a class player again (as he did in his first season at the club which a lot of people seemed to forget).

paired with mainoo and fernandes against liverpool.

it’s not fair to single any player out in that spurs performance. it was the nail in ten hag’s coffin, ineos just gave him a bit of extra rope to hang himself with to save face.

and for chelsea, footballers make mistakes, especially those in unsettled sides. he’s clearly gone up a level or two this season so far, and all his best performances have come when played alongside at least one experienced midfielder. we played eriksen in his first season and he looked a lot better then too.

expecting a 32 year old with so much football in his legs to be the sole midfielder in the premier league is asking for trouble. its part of why he’s booked so much. he loves a rash lunge, and has to make enough of them for two midfielders as he’s often left with multiple runners from the opposition. i bet he loved going from modric and kroos to this shit.

is that midfield 3 really that bad on paper. No matter who he played with that day, playing a big part in 2 goals to your biggest rivals at home is unforgivable. His biggest issues are the inconsistency in his passing and being caught in possession. Even in the recent game v Chelsea, a promising attack broke down in latter part of 2nd half as he was caught in possession on edge of Chelsea box. Those inconsistences are negated somewhat when he is played a bit further forward as we've seen recently with him playing alongside Ugarte. The first Liverpool goal was due to his slack pass that was cut out, 2nd goal he was caught in possession. Same in recent Chelsea game, slack easy pass to Ugarte cut out and Chelsea through on goal. The flip side is the wonderful pass he played to Hojlund v Chelsea that just shows what he can do.

Borderline excellent. It will be interesting to see how Amorim unleashes him.
Again being a Portuguese speaker is only going to help, Brazilians and Portuguese have very similar philosophies, I Can see him getting a new lease but only if his minutes are managed, we need to get Angel Gomes who could play alongside Ugarte or Casemiro Or Mainoo and could even play as one of the 10’s behind the CF. We should be all over bringing Angel back especially on a low transfer or a free.

considering we get beat by nearly anyone that presses us and puts in something approaching effort, yes. bruno isn’t disciplined in midfield and does what he wants, which is fine as he’s our only creative outlet.

mainoo is great but 18, and all his impressive stuff is with the ball at his feet, he’s got a lot to learn without it. that leaves casemiro chasing shadows or trying to get rid of the ball to no one, in an attempt to play fast transition football.

Lack of viable passing options was the reason for those goals. Casemiro just happened to be on the ball when they occurred.
