The pass didn't cost us a goal, Onana's sorry attempt to make a save was what cost the goal

It's super annoying how people overplay Bruno's mistakes. Yesterday was one of his worst defensive mistakes in a long time, but the attacker was still 35 yards from goal with 3 opposing CBs in front of him. And he only managed a piss-poor shot from outside the box that Onana should save 99 times out of a 100.

Of course it was a bad mistake from Bruno, but you cannot eliminate risk entirely from your game. Not even a nerd like Pep insists on that.

90% of Bruno's mistakes happen deep in the opponent's half with a perfectly settled defense behind him, in theory ready for the counter. If you're going to make a mistake then that is the "best" type of mistake. Yesterday was a rare example of a mistake happening in a dangerous position, but all the stars still had to align for it to end up in the back of the net.

There is no inherent position for Bruno Fernandes in this system. As I say, he’ll continue to oscillate between wide no.10 and CM and do an okay-ish job when it comes to chance creation and pulling something out of the hat every now and again, but he’s just a square peg in a round hole
This is exactly what it is.

It’s extremely important that we move on from him. Keeping him as an important player will only lead to more structural problems for the team.

Exactly, but we lost so there has to be a scapegoat

Fecking hell, the hate for the player and the agenda spilled over to mainstream media. Unacceptable!!!
Its an article which actually reads more like something which could have been written by any of Bruno's die heart fans on here for most part , with a hint of token criticism to avoid it being mistaken as player tribute .

I am not shocked

Bruno is Bruno, but the second goal, as bad that pass was, it's all Onana

Recurring theme.

Players should be fined for failing to clear 1st man or lofts that are easy for keeper to catch.

When you watch Arsenal players drop the ball into the 6 yard box on one of their players heads every single corner, it makes it even more maddening that we can never clear the first man.

There both to blame in my opinion.

Sure but looking to apportion blame for every goal we concede all the way back to the last United player to touch the ball is a bit stupid.

It was a sloppy mistake from Bruno but one which should never have ordinarily been a mistake which causes us to concede a goal. It didn’t even create a situation where our defence was outnumbered (and God knows that’s been a common enough occurrence these last couple of years) The situation should really have been comfortably defended, even after Bruno gave the ball away.

Actually think his delivery pissed me off more than his defensive error, yes it was a poor lay off, which is basically what is happening with our side as a whole, but the resulting shot was outside the box and Onana should save it.

If it was any other player than Bruno, or maybe Højlund, and De Gea in goal instead of Onana, no one would be talking about Bruno....

There were even additional errors between Bruno’s and Onana that contributed to the goal. Our centre backs made it far too easy for Gibbs White to get a shot off. Awful mistake by Onana but allowing any opposition player so much time and space to get a shot off from the edge of our box is asking for trouble.

I feel he has too big a role in the team. I don’t think he’s the best on field captain, and his overriding position on free kicks and corners is highly debatable. He must get robbed of possession more than any other first teamer and it often gets masked by his attacking stats. It’s a shame that Mount is the alternative becomes he’s a poor player for United and I doubt he will improve.

While the glaring error was of course by Onana, Bruno was equally to blame giving them a chance to create an attack. Yoro had just overlapped and was trying to play the one-two. When we're trying to beat their press and build from the back, a giveaway of that nature straight to the opposition was bound to create a chance for them. Even if Gibbs-White didn't shoot but lay it off for another team mate, it was still another a dangerous opportunity presented to them by the careless nature of our captain.

And the reason people are getting infuriated is because this is what we expect from Bruno. Look at the Arsenal game. The only player in that first 15 minutes who was constantly losing the ball was Bruno.

Ye we seriously need a new set piece taker. Someone they can beat the first man. You can see we are working on plans for tactics though with the freekick that was taken.

Bruno's set pieces are weird. His free kicks are generally good to excellent, whether shots at goal (hit the bar) or crosses into the box (De Ligt header) but his corners are usually average to poor. He didn't hit a single acceptable corner against Forest.

Interesting comment from Amorim on Bruno pass for goal. Clearly the pass was bad led to goal.

Viktoria Plzen 1:2 Man Utd New
Smart assist in the second goal (shades of that Martial goal against city from years back), and also he put in a beautiful cross that Hojlund really have gotten on the end of.

Other than that, he's not a midfielder, players were gliding past him as if he wasn't there. A better team would also have punished his sloppiness on the ball

We lose so much when we play Bruno so far from goal. The assist for the winner showcased that, as did Mount's misses from the #10 position. Nobody else in our squad has Bruno's creativity. We really need to stop this thing of having him 40 yards from where he can do the most damage to opponents.

I see it totally different. He is crap in tight spaces around the box. I like him deeper way more.

Good assist to Rasmus, average otherwise. But many others were way worse

I think he tried a similar move against Arsenal last week but Antony squandered the chance.

And yeah, that cross was something else.

Despite his shortcomings, some of which were displayed tonight, Bruno is the only midfielder in the team who can regularly make things happen in the final third. It's an indictment of our recruitment and until we solve this problem he has to play every game.

I thought he was our 2nd or 3rd best player today. Deep or high, he's always so involved.

Has several moments of genuine quality in every match. Unfortunately also has several moments looking really poor.

He had an ok game but for me gets downgraded massively for the sheer number of poor free kicks and corners he puts in the box. He is absolutely dreadful at the them and surely there must be someone better at it. Let Amad take them FFS.

Also gotta shout out his commitment. There was a long ball that I was sure was going out of play but he chased it with everything he had, put in a cross and got the corner. Quicker players would have given up chasing that ball... As much as I criticise his consistency on the ball, you can never doubt the man's effort. Gives it his all every minute of every game

He did let others take them in this game and they were equally shit, if not worse.

Amad's corners were way worse tonight. He took 2 or 3 corners and every single one of them were poor.

Amad took 2 corners today and they were absolutely terrible so Bruno came across and took a better one.

One of the best on the pitch without even being close to brilliant. Says something about the quality of football on display tonight. So important for us with his workrate and creativity.

You can play him out of position and he'll still almost certainly be one of our best players on the pitch. His energy and work rate was amazing today. I remember reading comments on here that he was a lazy player

Just did his job, no fuss, setup a goal and generally played well. That's what you want from him in these games.
