I can't decide if Mason Mount counts as an even worse signing. He's our 10th most expensive player EVER. Onana and Casemiro, pound for pound, are looking like utter disasters already Casemiro is at 8th and Onana 15th. But yes Antony is an absolute horror show of a signing.
I think Antony is worse. Mount has a solid catalogue with Chelsea that gives you hope. Antony wasn't even a certified star in the Dutch league and you spunked all that money on him.

Perhaps, but there's no need to pile excrement on the man. The one aspect of his game I appreciate is his defensive tenacity, but apart from that his performances with the ball at his feet have been poor and there is no evidence of Antony trying to improve his overall game.

Well taken goal on his debut. But have to say I was worried immediately watching him in that game. Looked like he was struggling to take on players and that's what we've been witnessing ever since. Like his work rate and defensive part of play but in attack he's just too limited. Rated his 1st season as solid - giving him benefit of the doubt as first season in PL can be difficult and also because he did look decent in some games. Also being young-ish as well. But second season there's no progress and other than for that goal vs Liverpool he's been poor.
Hopefully it's possible to sell him in the summer. Antony, Greenwood, Sancho we could get decent money for them. Even Rashford but that probably won't happen (also on big wages so not many clubs could afford him).
I suspect I’m the only one who thinks so, but whenever I watch Antony play I always think he looks like a midfielder on the wing. He’s got loads of work rate, an amazing engine, good close control, is press resistant, can carry the ball well. But he lacks that ability to beat a man, more than one in every ten times. He’s predictable as he always cuts in on his favoured foot.

He would be eaten alive in a midfield in the PL. He is not physically imposing, can't head a ball, and he doesn't play enough progressive passes, or should I say, precise passes when it matters. The speed of play seems to be too fast for him. I truly believe the PL is 2 steps higher than his level.

How did it look when he played extremely well for Brazil (and what was it, 2-3-4 games)?
Did he dribble past players with relative ease, as Raphinha often does?
Was his decision-making any good?
Did his crosses and passes have a decent weight on them?
Or more simply.... did he look like a completely different player from the one we have here?
Do you think he's going to shine, and be the star of a team like Everton, Brendford, Burnely....?
Let's say that the 80-odd million we paid for him is not his fault - I completely agree.

I watched him in the World Cup and he was marginally better than what he has been at Utd and from memory he played his most minutes against Cameroon which was the only game they lost in the group stage.

ETH picked the wrong guy, he had when he joined Sancho, Amad, Pellistri who were all more than adequate to be a huge improvement on Antony. He’s gone next season, he will be loaned out and sold next year!

I get what you’re saying but I think the reason why Joelinton successfully transitioned into a CM in a 3 is two-fold: his ability in one v one takeons, and his strength and size. Antony unfortunately has neither of those traits. He’s also hideously one footed.
Perhaps, he could therefore maybe be a poor man’s Di Maria in the midfield like the Argentine did for Ancelotti? Problem there is again, Di Maria was a lot quicker, and a lot more creative. Antony has 3 assists in 53 matches, and I doubt his chance creation stats paint a better picture.
If all Antony offers is ball retention and press resistance, is it actually worth bothering trying to use him in midfield? And that’s without the tactical tinkering — I don’t think you can partner him in there with Fernandes and/or Mount with Mainoo or Casemiro, for instance.
I think the problem with Antony is more simple than that — he has some traits that illustrate top level quality but those in isolation can’t make up for the rest of the shortfalls (the biggest of which is that I just think the PL is too quick for him).
Antony's goals against Liverpool and Burnley were pretty good. Not everyone can score those type of goals.
Whoever sanctioned this move needs to get sacked.
