Terrific news, if true.
He looked solid in the pre-season and its about time he gets a shot at the starting 11 imo
Terrific news, if true.
We're three games into the season.
You said we need to give him more games, when we've only played three. You say give him cup games when we've not even played any yet. Have some patience. This time last year Herrera was not starting games and he ended the season as our player of the year. Again this time last year Rashford was not starting and he ended up playing more minutes than anyone else out of our front line. And how is that relevant to anything I said?
If your just stating the obvious, today is Thursday
I agree with you on thatI dont think Pereira would be at his best in Mata's position. He needs to play somewhere in midfield and I hope Jose gives him plenty of minutes

Can't even get into our match day squad, though, unfortunately.
Its probably more a case of him understanding the culture of the two clubs. United has a historical preference for having the same manager in place for long periods and proud history of developing its own players and managers are expected to embrace that, although recent years have been a let down in that respect. Chelsea on the other hand are a club with a long term high manager turnover without any real emphasis on developing their own players rather than buying them in. There's no point in youth development if you're constantly facing the axe. Its an unneccesary risk.Am torn about this. I'd happily send him loan to a similar set up to last year and just hope, he keeps his head down for one more year. Its easy to do that.
But for some strange reason, Jose who would usually be happy to get rid of such almost-there-but-not-yet players in the past, is going out of his way to show him that he has a role in this current set up.
Why is that? is it because he thinks Pereira is better than players he had to let go in past? or is it because jose has changed, and he has time, to give Pereira a better try out now, than to other players in past? Or is it both? or neither?
Hope Pereira has patience. He has attitude, talent, composure for our level. but he'll need some patience, and luck to make it out of this properly.
That is too bad but I'd hope with all the games we have this season he would get a chance to prove himself
With the Champions League group phase, I think Mourinho won't care that much for the League Cup, which we won last season, so a proper second team might be starting the home games with A.Pereira having a chance to start the Burton game.He may well be waiting a long time to have that opportunity, though.

Are you suggesting Mourinho drops Herrera and Fellaini from the squad altogether to make room for A.Pereira? Then after that, whether he has a good game or not, when we go back to the league game, Pereira doesn't make the match day squad again.

He was already on loan, and he'll have lots of League Cup games and, maybe FA Cup, or even a chance if Pogba's injured or suspended, or if Champions League group is decided, depending on how well he takes his first chances. He's our player and we need him as backup, player development is not the only criteria nor the most important. No, hence why I think he needs to go on loan.

The progression is in playing for a winning squad. He needs to be playing, but we need him too (unless we get that winger), so…Well, he's 22 in January. He's missing out on valuable playing time.
Doubt he'll be happy with being back up for us. He needs to be playing, or at least be in match day squads so there's an opportunity for him to come on.
I understand he will get the odd cup games, but I personally don't think he'll be happy with that. He was doing that under Van Gaal three years ago when he was 18. Where's the progression?

2 games played in a season with well over 50 games and absolutes are being determined. He's not playing. There's an implicit contract with a young player that he's given the opportunity to develop his game. If Mourinho keeps Andreas in the squad but off the pitch, he's denying him that opportunity.

That's not why Mourinho let him leave. It's so he could have a proper start to the season with his new club than joining them some ways into the season like he would have had he lasted the full season here.We went through last season with only 4 CMs (Pogba, Herrera, Carrick and Fellaini) and this season will almost certainly be shorter. In fact Mourinho could not be bothered to keep Schweinsteiger for 4 more months because he was not getting any games. We have 5 midfielders this season before we even get to Pereira.
So you can say it's not enough and you are entitled to an opinion, but it doesn't really coincide with any historical evidence from Mourinho. He doesn't rotate that heavily or need such a big squad.

OkayMan, what are you talking about?
Mourinho let him leave because he had no use for him. Otherwise he would have played him. Schweinsteiger repeatedly said didn't want to leave, Mourinho told him to go find another club and pushed him out the door.
If he felt he needed him for the run in, do you think Mourinho would give two shits about Chicago fecking Fire and what condition they get the player in?
coolOkay
Can't be a loan if he's only got a year left on his contract. If he's being sold there had better be a reasonable buy back clause. I don't see why we would be shipping him out though. Does Jose plan on using Lindelof from time to time in midfield this season?
