Herrera has poor defensive awareness for all his hard work which is his big problem. Gomes is perhaps slightly better than this but you really can't have both in the same midfield.



Neither are better let alone far better. I'd say Herrera and Gomes are at the same level right now give or take. But Gomes is younger, has more potential and most importantly his ability to dribble with the ball is a huge plus. The only midfielder we have who can do that is Rooney and he's not even a midfielder or very good at dribbling. Having someone like Gomes gliding with the ball will be a big help in breaking down defenses.

Nah sorry I don't undertand that either, Rooney is the only midfielder we have who can do what?

Herrera can dribble to be honest, hasn't done it much at United but I get the feeling our CMs were not allowed under LVG

Herrera is not really a dribbler. Gomes is a level above him on that count.

I agree, I was alluding to your point about Rooney being the only one who can dribble. Herrera at Bilbao was a decent dribbler
 
Herrera can't compete with Gomes.... he looks like a more athletic version of Isco.
 
Looks like the perfect Mourinho player. Hopefully we can get him, he looks to have great comfort on the ball, agile yet powerful. The perfect PL midfielder.
 
For those like myself who know absolutely nothing about this guy, what kind of player is he?

No idea but I youtubed him and am sold. 6'2, looks fast, seems comfortable with either foot, good technique and dribbles well:

 
I saw him play a few times when Neville was their manager and he wasn't very impressive. The entire team were awful though which is mitigating.

He has a few nice highlights reels but I was looking at his stats for the season on squawka the other day and they were comically bad.
 
He just looks like he has it all, but apparently he was really inconsistent, or poor even, this season. Really hard not to get that tingling muppety feeling watching his youtube videos though.
 
He's got talent but that's entirely based on the Youtube vids. Have a feeling this rumor may have legs.
 
I'm hoping we don't go for Andre Gomes, as i've said elsewhere, I don't think he offers much that we don't already get from Ander Herrera.

William Carvalho and Danilo Pereria offer more defensive security, physical presence and tackling ability, and outside of just Portuguese players, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Nemanja Matic and Grzegorz Krychowiak offer the same. These are the type of midfield players I hope we go for. Paul Pogba is the holy grail of all these things, plus the passing, creativity and attacking threat.

We don't need to be looking at players like Andre Gomes if Rooney is going to be playing in midfield and whilst we still have Herrera and Bastian.

Not seen him since he was at Monaco, but Im surprised more people dont mention Kondogbia

Bastian was abysmal last season and nothing suggested his creaking body will burst into life this season. Its more likely to burst into flames.

As for herrera, hes a squad player at best, hes shown very little to suggest hes reliable enough to start regularly. Doesn't really excel at anything and has a very annoying habit of giving away moronic freekicks.

Rooney's abysmal dribbler and everyone who thinks otherwise should get a grip. Just because he somehow managed to get through three players against poor crystal palace doesn't mean he's a good dribbler. He hasn't showed anything like that past four years.

We can as well claim that Smalling is a good dribbler when he takes the ball and drives forwards from the defence.

He has been pretty shit at Inter and was voted one of the worst buys of the season.
 
I like this guy. Looks the real deal. He can take Herrera's place in the squad/team. His speed of thought and quick feet are his standouts.

That's the Kondogbia special, shite the first season and great the next one. That's what happened at Monaco and Sevilla.
 
In Valencia there has been a rumour that United could offer Mata + Herrera in exchange for Gomes as Mourinho really wants the player. It is discussed but no one really believes it(probably rightly so) because they think it is too good to be true..

I think Mata would like be the only one in that deal. Player exchanges are pretty rare these days though. Probably a bit of fantasy to that one!
 
These youtube videos they make anyone look amazing

I remember seeing such videos when we were linked with Herrera aswell and he was going to be the perfect midfielder that has it all...

But there's a lot to suggest that soon he will be. Can only speak of his games against Madrid, but both times he seriously impressed. This guy has the ability to run down an entire midfield. Good passing technique and range, very agile, good at shooting - would hate to see him go to Juventus.
 
When Neville was Valencia manager, I watched a few Valencia games. He did nothing of not,barely noticed him. I could see he had great technical abilities, but other than that he barely impacted the game. But it is not good to judge him based on those games as the only good player on the pitch seemed to be Gaya.
