Andre Gomes is one of the hottest names on the transfer market. The Valencia midfielder is being pursued by many top European clubs and he will be mentioned a lot in the summer transfer window. In Italy both Napoli and Juventus are interested in signing him and they could make some concrete steps forward soon. In fact Andre Gomes' agent Jose Mendes is expected in Italy likely on Friday, he could have some meetings in Milano for his client. A summit with Juventus is certainly expected and Mendes will likely also meet with Napoli or someone representing them. After this trip on Italy more will be known about Andre Gomes' future.

Andre Gomes also has suitors outside of Italy. Manchester United continues to be interested. Serie A clubs continue to monitor the situation and hope to land one of the best midfielder prospects on the market- what looks likely is that Andre Gomes is on his way out at Valencia.

From the Di Marzio website

He's a very talented player, but the consistancy of his end product is very questionable. One of those that flatters to deceive. He'll have some pure quality moments of skill where he goes past players with ease but wont often convert that into a chance or goal. He has the potential to be a really good flair player but he's not there yet.

Do you still watch Valencia regularly?

I'm a fan of his. He has great potential I think. Very graceful player but also an athlete.

Talented player, mediocre season. Lack of killer instinct and question marks about his desire.

I'd say he's worth a shot at the right price, because he's really, really skillful - bot we won't get him for the right price.

For the prices quoted he's definitely worth a punt, maybe it'll make up for the punt we never took on Gundogan last summer.

He could be a good punt as one of the advanced midfielders in the formation we're currently utilizing.

Now if he could add consistent goal threat...

Shame, wanted to ask you what you think of Mustafi and Cancelo this season.

I've watched most matches this year.

Cancelo is really, really talented but needs proper guidance on how to play as part of a unit. Attacking wise he could be sensational.

Mustafi has probably been the one beacon of shining light in an otherwise absolutely awful Valencia backline. They'd be wise to keep hold of him at all costs. I wouldn't mind him at United actually, think he would be a very astute purchase.

I've sadly only watched the games he's been dire, but I'm sure he has something about him. There were a lot of rumours flying about him before, what are the prices quoted again for him?

Saw in the transfer tweets thread di marzio stoking the flames for this one. Scored a cracker against Real the other day. Hopefully can get us over the Sanches disappointment ;)

Opinions of Valencia fans are divided. One half feels he has great potential and selling him would undermine the club's project. The other half has had enough and feel he is too inconsistent and overrated and wouldn't mind if he is sold for good money.

His release clause is €110m but quoted price is €50m at which the club might consider selling him.

Thanks! I think he looks horrendously inconsistent as I'm yet to watch a good game from him!! There obviously have been a fair few though. May be a Barkley situation, where I believe they need to move on to another club to really progress.

What does he offer that Herrera doesn't? I wouldn't want him here.

Scored a cracker against Real at the weekend but always strikes me as a bit soft mentally.

I thought Di Marzio was hinting that Gomes would not be moving to us as well.

As for André Gomes, the Portuguese midfielder is at the point of watching Manchester United, especially if finally finished specifying the arrival of Jose Mourinho the bench at Old Trafford. The fact that Sanches, Benfica player, go to Germany makes the crosshairs of the United focus more intensely on the '21' Valencia CF. The scouts 'Red Devils' have followed the evolution of the two as Lefty Monaco Bernardo Silva.

The Mestalla club will not accept proposals is lower than 65 million euros by André Gomes. Peter Lim will have the power of decision.

Bayern will pay 35 million for the young midfielder Benfica (19) and the operation, depending on pluses, could achieve in the future the exorbitant figure of 80 'kilos'.

Only basing this on some quick youtube scouting, but I quite like the look of him, could be an interesting option. Seems quick enough for a CM, good/possibly great dribbling/close control. Decently two footed. He's a tall fecker too, and doesn't seem to be easily pushed off the ball.

Gomes is a really feast or famine type of player IMO - and that can be said for almost every aspect of his game/ total skill-set. When watching certain players, do you ever get frustrated and go: 'Oh man, this guy could be awesome, if only he learnt to apply himself'? That's essentially Gomes in a nutshell - because he has a propensity to be wildly inconsistent, and blow hot and cold on a weekly basis. He can be really good in terms of his defensive workrate if he 'wants to', and that theme extends to his passing, and movement, and so forth. If ever there was a prototype for a top holding/ central midfielder, he is that - given his deceptive quickness and grace in space, tall-ish build, creative passing range on almost every level of the pitch, the ability to have his neck on a pivot and constantly scan the pitch etc. If United do sign him, the key would be to make him more consistent/ focused - specifically in terms of building up his lower level, and making his top level displays more frequent. More of this - carrying the ball forward and being dynamic - particularly from deeper areas:

Ooh, and another thing: his fitness record hasn't been the greatest in recent times.

You would think Mourinho would be able to get him working hard at least

Thanks @Invictus

Seems like a player with a bad work ethic and mindset based on what you're saying. However, he hasn't played under a top class manager so maybe Mourinho is the type of manager to get him to a consistent level.

TBF, it's hard to say anything in definitive terms without knowing how this specific player's brain works, and whether he has the drive to be great instead of just good, or an also ran. If he buckles down, is receptive towards criticism, and soaks up the information a great training pitch coach like Mourinho provides - then he could be awesome, because he has it all in terms of natural ability and his technical skillset (though that can be said or several players through the years - who promised much, and delivered precious little). But if Gomes has a prickly or obtuse personality, and recedes into his shell or thinks he knows better because he flashes brilliance from time to time - then it might be an uphill task, no matter who the manager is - because ultimately, it's all down to the player, and he has to let the trainer in. If we do sign him, one would hope he mirrors the former in terms of personality, rather than he later.
Thanks @Invictus

Wouldn't say he has a bad mindset per se (because I'm not quite privy to the inner details at Valencia wrt Gomes - apart from watching them for about 20-ish times per season), @prarek would be a better judge of that. From a superficial perspective, I think he's rather lackadaisical - a bit like Ander, infact. Whether that's due to him being overconfident in his ability and switching off/ undercompensating (a recurring theme in a lot of young players that wears off as they mature), or due to a negative mindset where he plain doesn't want to work hard and lacks a solid ethic - I dunno, to be honest.

@Invictus I think you've summed him up pretty well mate. It could go either way, he could turn out to be a world class player or just another Oscar.

How is he defensively?
It's hard enough to get a real handle on a players attacking qualities from youtube videos, judging them defensively is even harder. I haven't watched enough to even guess at his defensive work. From the videos I've seen he seems like he should be able to be a pretty complete two way player though, tall, quick-ish for a CM, doesn't get muscled off the ball easily. For someone like that it's all about application and instincts, which you can't really judge off a video, even the "every touch" vids.

Andre Gomes is set to be offered to Manchester United in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The 22-year-old has scored nine goals in 77 appearances for Valencia since signing from Benfica in 2015 but is now being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Todo Mercado Web say Valencia are now keen on selling Gomes to United over Juventus who are also interested in the midfielder.

The La Liga club are owned by Pete Lim who also owns Salford City near Manchester and it’s understood good relations between the two parties may help push through a deal.

Louis van Gaal has stepped up his interest in the £51.5m-rated Gomes after missing out on Renato Sanches who signed for Bayern Munich earlier this month.

If it's 51.5 m then theyre not offering him to us for our "good relations". No way Juve will pay that much and they probably think we might.
