Andre Gomes

I like this player, and he is second only to Pogba from this summer's targets for me. Pjanic is also class, but I have a feeling Gomes will become top class under Mourinho. He is so gifted, and would be great in a midfield 3.

Of the 4 CM's we are being linked with the most I like him the least, he's not really done anything at 22 and seems mentally weak.

Kind of agree, but he has so much talent

Yeah... Seems a bit underwhelming to me and never stood out all that much when I watched Valencia. He has talent sure, but I think we can bring in far better players then Gomes really.

He strikes me as having a lot of natural talent but coasts on it, maybe it's just how he looks but at times he seems disinterested when I've watched him.

I'm seriously hoping we aren't in for this guy. I don't think he's the type of player we need to be looking at, and absolutely not for the kind of money that is being suggested. I'd prefer a strong tackler to shore up in front of the back four, or an all-round dynamo like Pogba, Nainggolan or Pjanic, rather than someone who will be competing with the likes of Herrera and Rooney for an advanced passing role.

Yep and apperently we have made a €45 +€15 bid and juve say they cant match it. With the club saying its unlikely they can keep him.

How true it is?.. no idea!!
I quite like him really. I know Pjanic is supposedly available for a lot less, but someone like Gomes in a 3 man midfield could really cause some damage. We had trouble being creative in the final third of the pitch last season. He's the sort of player who can fix that.

He'd be excellent on the left of midfield three combining with Shaw and Martial. In theory at least...

We do seem to be getting linked with the same players. Bailly and Manolas as defenders. Pjanic, Gomes, the Mexican kid and Pogba for midfield and then Zlatan. Last year for about all of June we were linked with on average 3 new players per day. I'm hoping that we nail down all or 4-5 of the above and get it sorted early doors. I do like a last day transfer deal mind. Got used to it now. It was boring when Fergie signed a reserve goalkeeper in May and then said "our business done". For Gomes, I don't know a great deal on him to be fair as I don't watch much La Liga but I'll go with Mourinho any day. If he thinks this is a good move then I'll look forward to seeing the fella playing and judge him then.

I certainly hope not. I know we're used to overpaying, especially under Woodward, but that is just absurd.

Is he really 6'2"? 13 stone?.... Might need to take a closer look at this dude

This boy for me is a potentially world class player in the making under a good coach. He is a very athletic playmaker in the Kaka-esque mould, and would be brilliant in a three man midfield. Play a CDM and a more controlling midfielder behind him, or two B2B midfielders behind him and let his boy just play and he will wreak havoc.

He is a devastating runner with the ball, very elite technical skills and fast as feck through the centre.. he's basically Barkley but much more direct and know's what he is doing. He is very two footed, can ping balls off either foot and very good at dropping deep and springing passes forward first touch and generating momentum into an attack. He's also very strong and contests every header, likes tracking back too and is definitely a Mourinho type attacking midfielder.

If he comes into the side, guaranteed he'd end up being a fan favourite (he's ridiculously good looking too if you're into that sort of thing) and would put huge pressure on Rooney to stay in the side.

I think this boy is a better AM than someone like Pogba in a three man midfield because he has much more dynamism and desire about his game, does everything at a quicker pace too. Pogba is better in moments but this boy likes to keep making things happen for an entire game. Can't imagine a team with both him and Martial running with the ball, roadrunners.

Very talented, tall, quick feet. Has a chance of becoming a terrific player. If only we could get both him and Pogba, it would fit Mourinho's style perfectly.

The only way Gomes fits into the midfield is we play a 3. If we bid for him i would be convinced that Mourinho is looking to change from his double pivot strategy.

the double pivot has been used to good effect by the last few premier league winning teams - scholes/cleverley-carrick, toure-fernandinho, fabregas-matic, kante-drinkwater. But now that managers such as conte and guardiola are brining their talents to the league, managers who prefer the single pivot, we might just see a change in style of some managers to counter act this by using 3 in the middle with one of the three pressing the single pivot.

given that gomes is a very aggressive player both attacking wise and defensively, he would be a very good singing for such a system. He provides drive and directness from midfield, can maintain possession under pressure, has a decent passing range, excellent dribbling ability and puts in a shift defensively as well. he would be a very good singing if mourinho is looking to change his system to a 3 in the middle.

And as someone mentioned before, if we can add Pogba to that it would be phenomenal.

Pogba and Gomes ahead of Schneiderlein or Fosu Mensah would dominate home and abroad within a couple of years.

As soon as the Mourinho rumours began back in December or January, the initial story was always 'Mourinho is coming in the summer and he is bringing Andre Gomes with him'. It was too random a name to attach to such a story I think, but I believe within Portuguese football, all are aware that they have a star in the making in him, and Mourinho was probably determined to take him wherever he went next.

Going by reports, I can only assume that we are looking to bring in more than one midfielder. Both Gomes and Pjanic would be too good to be true, but boy, what a midfield that would be. It will have to include Rooney as well ofcourse, but still would be a lively midfield.

I have just seen Gomes play when Neville was his manager, but I didn't pay much attention to him. If we were to sign him, how do you think we would line up? Is he capable of playing in the "2" in a 4-2-3-1 or are we gonna play him in midfield in a 4-3-3?

You'd be an amazing car salesman I reckon. Kaka is my favourite non United player of all time so if he's anything like him.. Get him!
