Andre Gomes

this euro pounds nonsense is getting silly. Someone earlier in the thread said to me that his release clause is 100m euros, so they'd deal with offers in the region of 50m euros - which would be roughly 38 mill. There is no fecking way it will be £51.5m

Is he any good though? Never seen him play

He is such a graceful player. Can retain it under pressure almost Verratti-like when he's on his game. I haven't watch him loads, but he stood out to me within 2 minutes of watching him the first time, and I was watching the ga,e to see someone else.

He may be inconsistent, but I can see him becoming a Gundogan type with the right application. He has the ability.

Application and mentality are the key words with him.

Hoping Jose can bring out his potential.

Of the Mendes clients, I think he's the one I'm most interested in. Think he can be an absolute star in midfield potentially. Great technical ability, reminds me of Gundogan, and I think he could become a similar player in style and quality.

Is he a deep-lying CM or more box-to-box? My concern is that we need a Carrick replacement, and I'm not sure if Gomes is the best fit.

I think he's fantastic. Not been great this season but has far more talent potential than some of the other CM names thrown around like that Polish guy and the guy Arsenal have signed/about to sign

If we sign him and Mourinho can bring out the best in him, then we will have an absolute world beater on our hands. He's technically magnificent and plays in such a grace that when he's on his game he's brilliant to watch.

 Feck of Izec!

A player you like  James and him are the only targets i have seen you give a positive comment on. Otherwise you go from thread to thread and ruin it. But i agree, he is potentially better than Krychowiak or Xhaka.

How good is he defensively? Think we might use him as Fabregas and Schneiderlin as Matic.. sort of pairing

He seems a bit too 'Yaya Toure' for my liking, i.e; 'when he's up for it'. Which shouldn't really be the case for a 24 year old.

I'm quite picky!

I think he's inconsistent rather than it being an attitude problem. He's the the kind of all round CM we should be looking at imo. Good defensively and on the ball with the bonus of someone who can dribble with it. Can play as both a #8 or #10. Would be a gamble but I would be counting on Mourinho to turn him into a more consistent player.

So far he hasn't shown enough to suggest he's potentially as good as Xhaka.

If Xhaka turns out to be half the player you purport, Arsenal should have the best central midfielder in the league at their disposal.
He's 22, not 24.
My apologies. Probably makes his inconsistency a lot more acceptable then.

I'll admit I am a fan and it's pissing me massively off that he's going to Arsenal, but I do think he's that good. At this moment in time I just think Xhaka has been way more consistent than a lot of other midfielders his age, which is impressive considering the role he plays. Similar to Carrick at first I think people won't appreciate him for what he does or will say that he's overhyped or overrated. I'll also admit there's every chance that he will come across as brainless for his fouls and it's very likely that he's going serve several suspensions.

Compared to Andre Gomes I don't think it's outlandish to suggest that he's more talented or in other words it isn't huge praise. IMO consistency at that age is an indication for talent and hard work, especially young players are rarely consistent. Andre Gomes seems to be the perfect example of that. Xhaka is the opposite, he's been very consistent for 2 years.

I'd like to think that if Mourinho calls he will come. Otherwise I can see another player go to Juve and become a star before years of 60m-70m links.

Kid has class about him, still young, but old enough to contribute.

If we sign Andre Gomes, then it has to come at the expense of Herrera's place in this squad?

For a visual inspection.

Maybe it's because I've just been watching an Iniesta video but this guy's style is kinda like a bigger, less good version of him? Which is alright by me.

How many goals and assists did he have this season?

He´d fill the exact same role like Herrera. You might argue, that one or the other is better/more talented, but I really don´t think that he should have priority. We need a DM and a play-maker (or maybe just a playmaker who can play next to Schneiderlin as double pivot.
I am not a huge fan of Herrera, so I wouldn´t mind replacing him. Yet at the same time it is a bit pointless to do it with Andre Gomes. If Jose really wants him, okay, but for me it would look like a fairly random signing and we find out later, that nobody really knows how to get the best out of him. We know how that ends. Di Maria, Mata, Fellaini and Herrera say hallo.

If we scout Valencia players Parejo (play-maker), Danilo (DM) and Cancelo (RB) all make a lot more sense.

In my opinion he is a dynamic midfielder that can create opportunities. He is definitely talented, however, a bit inconsistent in the games I have seen. I would prefer James, I think he would suit in Mourinho's system (also it can be good for merchandising). If Griezmann is unrealistic, James could be our best choice to play behind the striker.

Once again a dubious transfer target. He hardly played at Benfica, he is only been playing for two years, and he never really stood out. This season he was average at best. I have not seen Valencia much, but in games i have seen he rarely did anything worth a mention. He does not exactly posses a speed so adapting to PL game will be a challenge.
His position is more attacking CM, he can't play even a box-to-box one, those who think he can might want to check his defensive stats, they are awful. His attacking one are not great either, less than 1.0 chance created a game is all you need to know really. So do we really need him, positionally and tactically speaking? No.

Actually i am seek of looking for this elusive in-between type, i'd say drop that stuff and go for either a clear-cut DM, a guy who wins ball and protects back four and an AM, the one that create chances and gives you 15 goals+assists in league at least. I personally think that we do have enough DMs esp if Blind is moved back to midfield. But i would not mind if we target some other DM. The main point for me is no more Bastian/Cleverley types, that are not too attacking, but also not really defensive as well. And Gomes looks exactly that.

Right I'm just confused now, after reading more about him I both really want and really don't want this guy, transfer season can be tough alright.

Stay in the 'really want' camp with me. This one will be a star here, I feel it!

In English:
Juventus is looking to add a top player to it's roster for next season. Andre Gomes is a quality player who is ready to take that next step after putting in excellent performances with Benfica and Valencia. Valencia are ready to sell the player and Juventus have been following the player for a while now. Valencia's demand is set at 40 million euros , which is a number that Gomes' agent Jorge Mendes is also happy with. Speaking of Jorge Gomes, he was at San Siro last night and sat close to Agnelli, who let him know of Juve's interest.

Juventus have offered 30 million for the player with an additional 20 million in bonus money , something that did not seem to please Valencia. At the same time, Mourinho's United are also interested and would also like to sign the player. Manchester United seem willing to offer 40 million for the player, it is now up to Juventus to decide whether they are willing to increase their offer.

Between us and Juventus for Gomes. Juventus can't pay the transfer fee without structuring the deal. We can pay the €40m in one payment according to Di Marzio which makes us the favourites.
