Easy MOTM. Keeps that up and either Rashford or Garnacho are benched.

Simply a technically excellent player and also a hard worker. Always thought he was more of a 10/winger hybrid and very hopeful that he is perfect for one of those exact roles in Amorim’s formation.

Them comments after the first half in the match day thread. People were itching to single him out as a problem. He was by no means perfect, and made plenty of mistakes, but he was also our only player who did anything that half. He should've definitely won us a penalty.

I'm sure it'll be the same in the next game, too. The possibility of him having a quiet/poor game is relatively high because we're an incredibly inconsistent team where no one plays consistently well, and people will use that as justification for dropping him without taking into context the teams problems as a whole.
Infuriating isn’t it.

Think for me the most shocking part is that people seem happy to relegate him to the bench for … Garnacho and Rashford? Really? It’s not like I’m asking for him to play over Neymar and Messi here.

Basically, we won because Amad was up for it. One of very, very few who can leave Old Trafford feeling pleased with his night's work.
It's worrying that hardly any of the others can put that kind of effort in over the course of 90 minutes or for as long as they're on the field.

Won't have done himself any harm with that performance tonight anyway. Such a lovely player to watch.

Created 3 chances as well and torched his man several times= “meh performance”

Swear you lot wouldn’t know a good footballer if he slapped you in the face
The guy don’t strike me as a United wild man. I am a bit biased maybe but I was accustomed to the likes of Becks, Giggs, Ronaldo, Nani. I know Rashford is in poor form for a long time but he is much better then Diallo when on form.
Two goals against a greek team, which were a scrappy header and a deflected shot, won’t convince me he will made it here while I have never seen him perform in the League while he is 23 years old.

Hope I am wrong but I am not getting excited over that performance.

If you think he is a good footballer, then the standards have really dropped.

Maybe he will progress but he has been anonymous too many times and showed too little at 23 to be called a good footballer at this club anyway.

One very few players in our team that takes care of the ball. Besides his goals and the penalty he should have won, he mostly does well in maintaining possession and makes the right decisions when it comes to passing (yes, he also messed up a few times).

Good player.

 Feck off out of that. He played well. Toss up between him and Casemiro for MOTM. He’s a quality wee player, criminally underrated by some on here.

I do like him, think he's a quality player.

But that was ok, best of a bad lot against a shite team. Nothing to write home about.

Yeah mate no one here is saying he’s fecking Ronaldo or Giggs you weirdo, he’s just the best option on the right wing and has been for a year, and he’s hardly gotten any fecking league games to show (we gave Antony a full year of them as reference who’s half as talented)

If we bought fecking Mo Salah or Yamal tomorrow I wouldn’t be saying Amad would start now would I?

I've made the same argument in here and previous Amad threads countless times but some just don't stylistically get him. They actually want to see the very thing holding us back, greedy wide forwards running into men all game.

Thankfully as a club we're moving away from that type of greedy football (not that it was United DNA anyway).

Then you've a host of people who decided to attack Amad in defence of Ten Hag when people questioned why he wouldn't start him more.

Feck em.

Amad started 7 of the first 8 games this season. He didn't perform but nobody was performing to be fair.

Ruud says he's exceptional in training and always asking to do more

RvN: "he's always saying Ruud let's do more! Ruud let's do more!"
Scholes: "you mean Boss let's do more!"
RvN: "it's only been 'boss' for a week. We've done a lot of work prior to that"

He scored two excellent goals. Even ignoring everything else he did (which was a lot, see statman dave stats above) anyone who scores two excellent goals deserves better than “best of a bad lot” faint praise.

A subset of our fanbase hates him and can’t wait for any opportunity to call him crap. Weirdos.

A large subset of our fans over the last few years have shown their opinions on football are about as credible as a dogs.

Being rated by Manchester United fans doesn't mean anything - whether you're a player, team or a manager.

Well there goes any chance of us ever getting him back on loan !….he could have got us promoted I’m sure
So pleased to be saying this “ I told you so!”( despite quite a few not agreeing )
Special player at a great club -give him a run of games and he will flourish under your new manager -especially if you get the Centre forward in as well .?
Good luck always great for fans to have new hope
I think Amad will do great for you now -he’s a confidence player and if “backed “is amazing he will get that with you

It was a decent overall performance & he scored two excellent goals, but it was against a pretty poor Greek side. I won't be getting carried away just as yet.

He does have the skills, though. The next step is to find the consistency and do this week in & week out.

Or Bruno who had a shocker tonight with Rasmus. Marcus showed some fight when he came on too. PAOK were like a pub team up front.

Exactly why he'll be a decent fit for that inside forward role under Amorim.

Ten Hag truly had Mazraoui playing at the 10 with Amad on the bench

Very good performance today, and a brace. Could have had an assist too

He is a good footballer. He might be the only player in our team who is able to carry the ball properly. In which you’re comparing to Rashford who is terrible on the ball. Rashford can’t even dribble. He only kicks the ball and runs. Terrible decision making and nearly never makes the perfect choice or execution. When Rashford had pace he was decent but never a good “footballer”..

Giggs Beckham etc was nearly 20 years ago mate. So yeah standards has dropped.

Though I find the timing of your post a little off after being the only positive today. Deflection and scrappy header? You don’t like him do you?

Dial a goal

Should play more, he has good quality and a fantastic attitude. For a small player he's shown great battling spirit and not scared to try things. We saw tonight what we saw in the FA Cup Pool game.

Your arguement doesn't make sense given we haven't had these "United wingers" you mentioned for more than a decade atleast. And nobody is even talking about whether he will make it here or not. All fans ever asked for was the basic decency of a fair chance similar to those given to the other underperforming wingers he is competing with.

He also happens to be one of the few players in this squad who manages to be calm and refined on the ball. In a team that even our most creative player is a chaos merchant maybe a player who could help retain possession would have been a net positive even if his end product is not there yet.

Your posts reeks of someone who has made up yheir mind on a player and will use any argument necessary to reinforce that belief.

Yup. Which shows up all the posts saying ETH refused to give him a chance. Players that aren’t given a chance don’t get awarded player of the month.

To be fair nobody's saying he didn't get a chance, people are saying he doesn't get a 'fair' chance. Last season, ETH absolutely didn't give him as much time as he 'deserved' in relation to his talent and the performances of others who played ahead of him.

And then for this season, whilst he did start in the first months, Garnacho (who partly didn't play at first because of the Copa) was introduced as soon as Amad had a few quiet games and has stayed there despite his head-down-run-and-shoot games all season.

My bigger problem with how ten hag did it was he would seemingly give players every single minute for an entire month and then ignore them entirely for a month. Just purely for fitness, I feel like he had no clue how to rotate to manage minutes, especially the older guys

If you think Rashford is a much better footballer than Amad, then that football might be 100 meter dash and not actual football.

That guy was a cancer on the touch line I swear. The amount of backing he got from fans to the very end was infurating

Feck em.

Yeah I’ve long had the theory that he isn’t the right “type” of winger that more classic United fans gravitate towards. In reality he’s much more of a City type player in that sense, where he’s highly skilled and technical with an excellent brain for combinations and keeping the ball, not some rip roaring flying winger looking to take on his man 10 times and blast crosses in the box. In that sense Garnacho has been afforded far more leeway through his good and bad performances because that’s much more his style.

It’s a similar phenomenon to why I think McTominay was always a cult figure here even though he was never a competent midfielder. He ran a lot, loved the club, and scored big time goals (everyone loves a goalscorer) and it bought it far more grace for all of the games he seemingly couldn’t pass a ball or worse refused to even get on the ball under a press.
