I have to disagree with Antony vs Diallo and frankly most of your post. Antony was played for a lot in first half of season before being dropped, despite being awful. He was then often the go to sub despite some woeful performances, the Wolves away cameo probably the worst sub appearance in a long time for United. Sure Antony scored yesterday and we can all be happy for that, but he has shown nothing to merit so much game time. Anyone who watched a bit of Diallo in youth teams and then at Sunderland could see something a bit special. He's not that strong but coped with championship football, I have felt the lack of game time in last months was really poor.
For someone who has followed Amad so closely, it appears you’ve completely missed that he was fecking injured until almost January man.
Since Amad’s return to full fitness, Antony has managed the following minutes in the league:
* Forest - replaced after 54 minutes by Amad who wasn’t great either and unlike yesterday didn’t grab his chance. (Unlike Garnacho)
* Spurs - 2 min
* Wolves - 17 min
* West Ham - 2 min
* Villa - 0 min
* Luton - 0 min
* Fulham - 1 min (Amad got 10 minutes here, subbed in before Antony)
* Man City - 15 min
* Everton - 7 min
Does that look like a “go to” sub?
Looks to me like Antony has lost his place since that Forest match in December when replaced by Amad, and has been getting very very few minutes to try and win it back. If Amad had performed v Forest then as he did yesterday, he’d have likely had many more chances.
Antony has been given 2 cup games, (one in which he scored and assisted), 17 mins v Wolves and 15 minutes v City to win his place back.
Amad has had 36 mins v Forest & 10 mins v Fulham to win his.
Let’s at least be honest here, Garnacho and Rashford have those spots now and since late December, it’s looked more and more like it’ll take something special (like yesterday) to change that & get either Amad or Antony more game time.
It’s clear that both Amad and Anthony are really struggling for game time, not due to each other but Garnacho, who has taken his opportunity with both hands, further proof that be it his own purchase or an Academy player, ETH will drop anyone and give people chances if they take their opportunities. Mainoo another example of this.
Make no mistake, Amad will get more chances now, and if he takes them, we will see much more of him.
