I imagine he's been watching Garnacho and seeing how his much improved effort off the ball has won him a starting position. Earlier in the season Amad had a couple of cameos and looked quite lazy, and wasn't pulling his weight. Recently when he's come on, he's put in a lot more effort, and has done his bit going backwards as well as forwards. That's why he's getting opportunities, and if he keeps it up he'll get a lot more playing time.
You're making this up, my guy was injured at the start of the season, in his first cameo since his return, he did very well and somehow disappeared. He was quite poor the last time he played before yesterday's game though, so I'm surprised he wasn't left to waste away in the wilderness.

The only thing with Amad is I can’t work out what his best position is. I think he is more of a 10 than a RW. I’d like him in the middle with a lot of pace either side of him.

He needs a lot of game time now though, whether it is here or somewhere else, it would be great to see him stay injury free and get a lot of games.

Watched a video showing EtH reacting to every goal we scored. Didn't react at all when Amad scored the winner! Is there some sort of huge problem here which will see Amad leaving regardless of how he plays?

What?

He stayed here to prove his worth in Jan and he's been given minimal minutes to do that, yet with those minutes has probably contributed to the team, with our best result and biggest moment of our season. Why the feck does he need to prove he can do it at Crystal Palace or Southampton?!
Sorry but you're talking absolute nonsense. What he did at Sunderland was far more impressive than anything Gallagher or Broja have done. I gurantee if you had put Gallagher or Broja in that sunderland team they sure as feck wouldn't have carried it and been called the best loan signing the club has had in their entire history (which is the general consensus between all sunderland fans) - also in a lot of respects the championship is a much tougher league than the prem and there's a lot less protection. We didn't need to send out Mainoo or Garnacho on loan for 2 years when the talent is there for all to see and we don't need to send our Amad again either.
Amad is def good enough, i watched him a lot playing for Sunderland. Head and shoulders their best player. I suggest you go watch some footage.

Weird cult developing here. Why wasn't he played when guys like Pellistri, Mainoo, Shoretire and Kambwala were getting their chances?

He's of course welcome to stay and try to take his chances but I don't want that for him because I too think he's good enough to start for a premier league side and he should be playing week in and week out for his development. There's no way that's happening here. Anyway, the context of the post was if Greenwood would start over him if we bring him back and I think it's night and day - of course he would.

Definitely good enough.

Speaking about footage, i`ll add an all touch comp where Sunderland played Fulham last year.
This is the same Fulham we always struggle against.
Just love watching him play

You seem missing the timeline on what’s going on for him. He had an injury from the first outing in preseason and just got back to training in Dec? He played his first minute against Nottingham Forest and did pretty well.

Not a cult, you can look back in this thread and I was very much of the opinion he had to earn his chances on merit and take his chance when he gets it. I don't know how you expect him to go on loan to lower premier league side, after proving he's more that capable to perform in our team.

He wasn't fit until January? Also when did Shoretire get his chance?

Why is there no way of that happening here? I don't think it's obvious Greenwood would, he does next to no defensive work and Amad is far more versatile.

On rewatch he's even more MOTM. Stopped that counter attack from Liverpool with his tracking back which saved the game, won the ball back for the equaliser in extra time and then obviously got the winner.

His legs/running along with Antony's, Garnachos, and Dalots was a huge factor. Hope we use them and their energy more.

No.There is another angle which shows ETH celebrating the winner.

You can see that he doesn't know what is his role coming on as a sub. As the match wore on, he knows he needed to contribute no matter where he is on the pitch. A couple of winback against Liverpool counterattack, 2 fantastic block that leads to last 2 goals. I really hope ETH gives him a fair share of min until the last of the season. This kid can play, just tell him where he needs to attack and he is smart enough to be the difference maker.

Brentford would have been a nice game for him, shame he's suspended for it.

Scoring the winner against Liverpool on the 120th minute, celebrating passionately in front of the Stretford End, getting sent off, and walking down the tunnel like 'a boss' after that (like nothing happened) was the most hard-core stuff I have seen at this club in ages!

It's just how legends are made at this club! Take a bow kid.

It boggles the mind how some people can't see the obvious talent that is Amad.

I'm sorry if I come over aggressive but you don't seem to know what you're talking about.

Amad has been out for 126 days with a knee Injury. He recovered from it at the end of december, he was then injured in training and out with a separate issue until early Feb.

I'm not sure how many chances you can take when you're on the injury table. Also - he's been training for a month and was thrown in to the most important game of the season because ETH obviously thought he was our best shot of winning the game. So he got the biggest chance, on the biggest stage to show what he was about and he took it.

Never heard them called sliders, flip flops are the ones with a thong between your toes so I'm sticking with sandals

Probably worthy of its own thread in the General !
Maybe in the transfer thread?

In Norway, the thing with a thong between the toes is called a thong, or a g-string. Between the two big toes, that is.

Slides not sliders. One you wear on your feet, the other you eat.
They are called sliders around these parts (UK) my friend.

I think you've misunderstood me. I'm not saying there's no excuse for him not playing in general. Like I said, I may disagree, but I got why the likes of Rashford, Bruno, Garnacho, Antony, etc, were keeping him out of the team. I was only referring to the period where Forson was ahead of him in the pecking order.

The reasons given at the time didn't, and still don't, make sense to me. We know Amad is a better player at this moment in time, but, even leaving that aside, the supposed pros of Forson being ahead in the pecking order weren't valid in the first place. Some said it was because Amad doesn't work hard - he does. Some said it was because Amad wasn't impressing in training, which was the most valid argument, but we now know he was thanks to ten Hag praising his performances in training. Or, like you say here:

Amad is a central player. He always drifts inside when on the right, and has played plenty of games as a 10. The best part about his Sunderland stint was his link up play with Patrick Roberts as they would interchange as the 10 and RW with beautiful plays (alongside Hume at FB).

I don't think I'd agree that Forson played well and earned his minutes, myself. Nothing against the lad but he was just out of his depth. You mention his assist to Mainoo, and whilst I'm not turning my nose up at it, it was pretty basic. All in all, he just didn't show enough to me.

All that is fair! I've said before but, last season, if he messed up in possession, he sometimes threw a tantrum instead of tracking back, but it wasn't often. No excuses for that, but, in general, he did work very hard out of possession so the Forest bit didn't concern me that much. I forget who it was against, but, in one of our more recent games, he lost the ball but this time hounded the opposition back and won back possession for us.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree as to his minutes up until recently, it seems to me like he's been well handled, having come back from injury and taken some time to regain fitness. The expectations on him have been made clear too; in his first opportunity back he made a crucial error, followed by a lack of effort, that led to us losing, now in his more recent appearances he's worked very hard out of possession. Garnacho wasn't as hard working earlier in the season, and was dropped for it. He's now come back into the team and earned a starting position, in part because he does so much work for the team.

Still though, if he goes on to get the minutes we all now agree he's earning, then most of this is moot anyway.

His first cameo was away at Forest, and it was his sloppy pass and lack of effort to retrieve it that led to the Forest winner. So "did very well" is generous at best, I suppose you could say that you're making it up.

This is the thing, it's also a cult to believe that every decision a manager takes is the best decision.
He will do good and bad choices like every human being.

If you believe ETH is fault-free, then you're delusional.
Hindsight, you think bringing on Forson last time would be a better choice than Amad?

Probably not, cause Forson was the worst player on the pitch, so please avoid this bias around manager decisions always being right.

Amad is a mainly left footed player. He didn't score it with his weaker foot - he wouldn't have wanted to go so wide, but would have wanted to strike it with his stronger left.

it's nothing to do with weaker or stronger foot. From the angle he was at and in particular, the way he striked the ball - you'd expect the ball to curl away from the post. Somehow, he arrowed the ball in a perfectly straight line along the smallest possible margin to score.

I don't know what we're playing at anyway. We're discussing Amad Diallo in the sandals/sliders/flip flops thread for some reason! :D

Great finish and energy

He’s been managed really well. Let’s see how he reacts to all of this going forward now. I’d love to see him stake a legitimate claim before the season ends but I still think the best course of action for him personally is to go on loan next season and play every week, hopefully in the PL.

One of the two posts I was responded to actually used the phrase 'and with his weaker foot', so that's mainly why I was pointing out that his left is actually his stronger foot.

As regards angle, most players often try to use their stronger foot even when the angle means it would be better to use their weaker one. In this case, I thought the chance was there to try to work a shot with either foot really, but Amad being left footed I was fully expecting him to try to work it onto his left as he did.

The best course of action is surely for him to be first choice reserve for Garnacho on the right wing, possibly also getting some minutes for Bruno if we are comfortably ahead as a CAM? He will get plenty of minutes on that basis as we can also rotate Rashford and switch Garnacho to that side as well. If we actually do well in Europe next year (I’m assuming we won’t be in the CL) we will need a lot of squad depth.

Well i would think right foot would be better to curl into the far post, so the ball bends right to left or go for the near post. He shot it left footed, from a wide left angle into the far right corner with the GK dead centre in the goal. I can't remember the last time i saw saw a goal like that before. Even on his strongest foot, its a very very difficult goal to score.

He had Garnacho right there if the keeper parried it. He’d have passed otherwise I’d say. It’s a very difficult finish. Very little power on it

There are multiple videos of ETH celebrating the winner , no need to make stuff up just to make a point.

Nah that guy is not making up stuff. Our official twitter account posted a video of ETH's reaction to every goal we scored and for Amad's goal they put up a shot of him just standing there. Probably that reaction was him concerned with Amad taking his shirt off and getting sent off, but either way they did put that up and the clubs twitter account is to blame for that.

I’ve seen him celebrating as the subs start to
run over to Amad

Not sure about that, he should've had more minutes since coming back from injury. Hopefully this goal is the catalyst to change that for the rest of the season - Brentford suspension aside.

Yep, I'm not questioning that at all. It's just weird that our official twitter account would post it that way which gives people something to question.

Lack of effort to retrieve it? You're creative, I'll give you that.
The boy overcompensated trying to redeem an error

Whatever happened in the past, here we are now and what we have now is a proper footballer who can co tribute to the squad. I would hate to see him sold.
