2024 U.S. Elections | Trump v Harris

Right, but my point is, they are not really undecided.
40% of Americans don't vote, most of them take not voting as a point of pride, a kind of identity.

Then you also have the ones who go about life completely tuning out anything to do with politics, but start to pay attention a week or two before the election and vote for whoever they like more.

Us political junkies are really the exceptions, civic engagement isn't a strong point for 'muricans.

Who are these "undecideds" at this point? Attention hogs, or people too embarrassed to admit who they will vote for, i reckon.
You have to remember, there's also a good portion of people who might be registered to vote but don't pay attention to politics at all until it's time to vote.

I guess more undecided if they will vote or not, as opposed to who they would vote for?
Probably. I was undecided whether I'd vote for this incarnation of Labour or not bother voting at all. Can imagine there are loads in the same boat in the US.

Right, but my point is, they are not really undecided.

I think people on here make the mistake of thinking that everyone is as engaged politically as they are. There are definitely some Europeans on here more engaged with the American elections than actual Americans I know.

There are people who have not yet decided how to cast their vote yet. Maybe not many but some. It could be not decided between either candidate or deciding between voting and not voting at all.

The political parties obviously agree otherwise both candidates would be sitting at home with their feet up by now as opposed to touring around the country and conducting interviews and rallies etc.

I don’t get what was the point of the MSG event. There’s no way that resulted in a net positive gain of votes. The deplorables are all going to vote Republican anyway so why did they go out and put on this hate rally which might result in turning off people who were going to vote republican. Surely so close to an election, you don’t take such a massive risk. And New York isn’t a swing state anyway so there was nothing to gain locally either.

I am pretty sure Trump has given up on the election. No serious candidate in his right mind would ever organise anything like this. I genuinely believe that they are planning more shenanigans after the results are announced and planning a J6 but ten times larger in scale. This Nazi rally was to energise his base so that they are ready to commit political violence to steal the election or damage the country irrevocably.

Again I may be wrong but I would love someone to explain me why a candidate would hold a Nazi rally a week from the election that too in MSG.

The only "logic" to it is they think its a base rally moment to get them "energized" with hate to definitely go vote. But, yes you would think they are already primed for that.

The only positive is voting is already underway. And there are votes locked in already so if you got buyers remorse too bad in some cases. The Florida GOP running were likely very glad at that seeing how fast Rick Scott had to put out his Puerto Ricans are nice people cleanup effort messaging.

I’ve only seen this Tony guy before on short clips of (ironically) Shane Gillis doing an amazing Trump impression. I wasn’t even aware that he’s supposed to be a comedian and clearly he’s not at all funny.

I think the main point is to continue to rile up the deplorables, so if they lose, they will be motivated to question the election and raise hell.

That’s the thing with Trump. I wouldn’t have that much of a problem with him individually (given the options and political context)…I think the Trump who spent a few hours on Rogan’s podcast the other day is essentially him. The problem I’d have is with his acolytes and there’s a well represented assortment of nut-bags there.

Yeah, who could have a problem with a narcissistic, sexist, islamaphobic racist, fascist, sexual abusing, rapist, conman, twice impeached compulsive liar who started an insurrection and tried to overthrow an election?

It's hilarious watching Republicans backtracking on what Hinchcliffe said...he seems to have made the mistake of singling out a single country rather than keeping to the Trump script of just calling out "They...."

Replace the word "they" in Trump's speeches with any nation or specific racial/religious group and it shows it for the racist dog whistle that it clearly is.

He didn't just single out one country though. His entire 'set' was filled with racist jokes including one about a black man in the crowd because of a hat he was wearing and insinuating his white teeth glow so he looks like a lampshade then saying they were friends and carved watermelons together. It's just not funny at all.

I've been an avid watcher of live stand up shows for years usually catching about 20-25 a year for the last 25/30 years and I've never once heard racist jokes like that. Obviously I avoid the obvious like Jim Davidson but still, I've seen some incredibly dark and edgy comedians like Anthony Jeselnik and even Jimmy Carr who jokes about everyone and everything yet never once tells racist jokes. Jimmy was asked by a heckler if he knew any racist jokes at a gig in Torquay and he said yeah, now I know two... You and Jim Davidson

Even Chris Rock's set was taking the piss out of racists rather than telling racist jokes. I honestly didn't think it was a thing anymore, certainly not on a stage like that.

Just for reference last night was the first time that ABC, NBC, CNN, FOX and Newsmax ALL showed the entire Trump rally LIVE so this was seen by way more viewers on cable than usual and with the way the whole thing has gone viral it's impossible to say this won't have turned people away. I honestly think those who were previously going to hold their noses and vote for Trump may now have been put off from doing so. How many? Well we will have to wait until next week to have any kind of idea.

Trump's ego.

Conservative 'comedy' is literally just spewing the same bigoted garbage as your MAGA hat wearing uncle at the thanksgiving table.

Which is where their obsession with "woke" came from. They want the right to be as racist as they want without repercussion or "made to feel bad" about their comments.

Amazingly enough, it’s Tony’s show that Shane is doing that amazing impression on.

Not really. I’m not American so American foreign policy features prominently in my mind and it has been both immoral and disastrous for over 2 decades now.

You're not going to see anything different with Trump there. Speaking of foreign policy, Trump is bad news for Ukraine which in turn isn't great news for Europe either.

Also, you forget that domestic policy will also affect the rest of us. If Trump goes nuts with his beloved tariffs that could result in (more) inflation in our neck of the woods as well. And that is not even getting into other US domestic affairs that are highly "immoral and disastrous" such as abortion - even though you don't care about those issues.

Surely these are directly related to polls. (albeit also betting traffic)

If you think that's the case, go put your money where your mouth is then.
An extremely minor shift in polls causes a huge shift in betting markets. Not to mention betting traffic. They are quite volatile

The guy fascinated with rocks and Shane’s Trump impression are the only bits of it I’ve seen
You’re better off stopping there honestly. I’ve seen the clip of Bill Burr going on and being like this concept is terrible, it’s no way to judge a comic.

Anecdotal but this is my experience. I live in MD so it doesn’t matter but quite a few people have said to me “I’m not voting Trump, I don’t know if I’ll vote at all”.

A guy here at the office just said he's not voting. I am surprised frankly. I am pretty much the only non GOP in my dept. I had to ban them and their conspiracy theories and MAGA at work after Jan 6th. I put my foot down and said I would only tell them once I am no longer going to tolerate it at work. Take that to your group chats.

There's another poll out this morning suggsting Cruz and Allred are tied now, so every vote in TX will matter.

The main thing we have to go on with this is the 4 years of his presidency. And it was different.

I tend to agree with Trump’s assertion that Putin wouldn’t have launched the war with Ukraine had he been in charge.

People’s lives come ahead of prices.

I do care about that issue. A simple google search reveals that there have been over 63 million abortions in America since 1973. There’s immorality in those statistics indeed.

Do you suspect with some that they actually will vote, and their assertion is code for a Trump vote?

fecking hell, that explains a lot.
