2024 U.S. Elections | Trump v Harris

The sad thing is, because of the church takeover of hospitals, this can happen in states that allow abortions. California files a lawsuit against a religious hospital that did something similar.

Wait what? Churches control certain hospitals now in the States?

Honestly, handmaid's tale is slowly becoming reality or something.
Speaking of… I was listening to a podcast this morning about the Tuam Home in Galway, Ireland & realized that the Bon Secours nuns that ran that hell hole are the same Bon Secours that owns a nearby (edit: to where I live) hospital and are the name sponsor of a nearby (edit: to where I live) sports+entertainment arena!

This must be a joke, surely?!

Sadly it's too low. They have around $265 Billion (Roughly the same as Musk I think)

To make you feel better though,

The Catholic Church of the USA has only around $73 Billion. And estimated $265 Billion worldwide.

Oh shit.... Mornons $265 Billion, Catholics $265 Billion, Musk $263.8 billion...

Three is half of six x 3 is sure signs of the DEVIL right there.

Nearby by American standards maybe, but not by Irish :D

I didn't know that it was the same order though. Horrible.

What "sports arena" do they sponsor?

You are unbelievably stupid if you meant that.

Not being an unwanted child/growing up in dysfunctional household probably has more to do with it, and it has nothing to do with fecking genes.
It gets into a kind of potato potahto territory when someone puts that forward as an argument for abortion. The effect of which is to reduce the numbers of ‘undesirables’ in the population.

Nearby to me, not to Galway

Bon Secour Wellness Arena - 15,000ish seat arena that hosts a minor league hockey franchise, the SEC women’s basketball tournament, WWE events, monster trucks, and tons of concerts

Religion really is just a massive tax free grift isn't it? Amazing.

I thought that was something that was well liked and worked well in helping people?

When has that ever stopped them?

There are regulations in there they want to get rid of.

They also want to get rid of Obamacare and Social security, but thankfully have been stopped.

You're overreaching. He is ironically asking if she would still be such a fanatical war hawk if she suddenly found herself facing the combat situation he describes.
The way it was presented on the BBC news at 6pm earlier was just more grist to the mill for the fake news brigade. It boggles my mind when programme editors make these decisions, do they not realise that people can see the entire clip unedited online!?

Yes, that’s why the nuns took the babies from their unwed mothers, neglected them, then put them in the septic tank once they died.
And that terrible example negates centuries of non-terrible positive examples across a spectrum of human experience?

It shows it has nothing to do with god or religion and everything to do with basic humanism. And it isn’t the only example. That shit was going on for over 2 centuries in multiple places.

As @nimic said, you’re engaging in an oversimplification of the facts

Back on topic, the Heritage Foundation will run wild with another 4 years of Trump judicial appointments. The churches will have free rein to kill as many pregnant women as they want, all in service of protecting life.
The amazing thing is that some parts of this country are more conservative (and legally more stringent) on the issue of abortion that Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Yes, but will that negate all the good they’ve done?!?!

(I couldn’t resist)

Sooo…eugenics!

Not at all. But that is something the religious conservatives threw at Donohue and Levitt when they first released their paper 20+ years ago. It's just a pragmatic approach which of course isn't going to matter to hardcore religious people but it is relevant when examining an issue based on reason. It's important to take into account that it does appear that legalized abortion contributes to a meaningful reduction in crime in the long term. By now the research has been replicated and even updated 2 years ago by the original authors with the same conclusions. It helps illustrate the problem of religious conservatives using the state to force their beliefs on people that don't accept them which doesn't lead to a better society but a worse society.

It's really scary, especially since many hospitals are not upfront about their religious affiliation. And if you are in a rural area with just one hospital, you don't have a choice.

Quick facts on religious healthcare systems

  • One out of five hospital beds resides in a religious hospital.
  • About three-quarters of those hospitals are Catholic and operate according to consistent restrictions outlined in the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services.
  • As of 2016, four out of the ten largest health systems in the U.S. were Catholic.
Insane.

Imagine that instead of catholic it would be under jehovah's witness and they would not allow transfusions

Religion should be all away from education and science (i.e. health care). Should be away of everything in all honesty...but hospitals...Bonkers
