Well it's not but the team is shit. Shit teams get shit results.

We have a keeper who can't catch crosses and will be targeted every single time from corners and free kicks, not to mention liable to let in a howler or pass it straight to the opposition.

We have a defence that can't defend set pieces.

Without Ugarte, we have a midfield that can't run.

We have a right footed left wing back who can't attack and can only check back and pass it backwards or sideways.

They have Alexander Isak as their centre forward, we have Rasmus Hojlund.

I'm not blaming Amorim for any of this except perhaps the set piece defending - he needs to make improving this a priority as it's putting us in a hole every game. However, none of the players are his, he inherited this shitshow of a squad from Ten Hag.
Yeah everything else will take a bit of time but he has to improve the set piece defending that is on him and his coaches. Has to be a priority.

Casemiro as actually been pretty good this season which is weird that he got dropped. He’s very good in the air so gives us strengths at defending and attacking set pieces.

He played with Eriksen in Amorim’s first game in charge v Ipswich and they both got the runaround. Neither have been used much since which was harsh on Casemiro as he had been playing reasonably well prior to that and many feel we can get the best out of him playing with Ugarte.

The killer now is he may play tonight but Ugarte is suspended, so he might struggle again without those legs beside him.

Just wild that we are favourites to lose…at home…to Newcastle, a team who barely ever win here historically.

I don't think that's too wild. I wouldn't expect us to win, would you?

Our squad is much, much worse than theirs in every area, and we have a new system that doesn't fit the already poor selection of players we have. Doesn't take much to see that we're likely to get battered.

It's still the players who have to defend set pieces. If they're shit, is it right to ask Amorim to make them defend better? Just more unreasonable expectation.

We play anything like we did other night we will get bashed 4 or 5.

Newcastle have more attacking threat and more physical in midfield.

Wild as in, “I can’t believe we’re here after spending all this money”, rather than inaccurate. They’re favourites today for sure

Just don't get battered and we can take some confidence from the game. If we get battered and our morale takes another hammer blow then I can only see our situation getting worse.

Ugarte isn't available for selection because of his yellows

Given what's gone before in the previous 6/7 games, I'm expecting a goal for Newc from set piece, a defensive blunder to give another goal away, lack of any intensity or drive to get back into the game and none of our players to hit the target from promising attacking positions. Apart from that we'll be fine!!

The change I would like to see Amorim try is playing with 1 #10, and two forwards ahead. In this case with Bruno and Ugarte out he could play Mainoo and Casemiro as the two midfielders, Eriksen ahead of them, Hojlund and Zirkee up top together. It still keeps the similar shape and we know Zirkzee can drop deeper, this may help us have less of a gap from Hojlund to the other players. This would also free him up to play Amad as the RWB, tuck in Maz at RCB. It leaves us with no forward to bring on as the biggest drawback, but were so weak up front anyway right now maybe the extra firepower helps us score some goals earlier and then we can switch it up and bring on Garnacho or Antony.

I can see us playing quite well tonight but not really threatening their goal. Also expecting the obligatory soft goal conceded from set piece, cutback goal and counter attack through our leggy midfield. United 1- Newcastle 3 but played well for the majority of the game so slight progress, just need to cut out the lapses.

I don't think that's an unreasonable expectation. We're conceding at least one goal per game from set pieces, that's unsustainable. Amorim and his coaching staff need to find a way to mitigate it.

    Two things we definitely need:

    - Casemiro has to play. His box defending and threat are a must.
    - Amad needs to play wing back. If we play two defenders in these positions we won’t score.
Agreed, but with Bruno out, then who do we even fill those 2 attacking mid positions with? Eriksen and Garnacho probably the only options?
Ugarte is typically out for this one as well, meaning Casemiro and Mainoo is the only possible combo.

    Won’t happen but I’d consider a change to a 352 for this.

    Onana
Maz - De Ligt - Martinez
    Casemiro
    Amad - Eriksen - Mainoo - Garnacho
    Hojlund - Zirkzee
Not too bad, from what we have available.
And at least our wingers can actually play how they're comfortable - bar the chasing back needed!

I suspect the answer will probably be "last season" but when's the last time we lost 3 league games in a row?

Yeah, Amad plays no.10 by default. Dalot and Maz as wingbacks never works and won’t work again, but as you say there’s nobody to play in the two behind the striker. Unless he starts Zirkzee and Hojlund which is very unlikely

Expect us to lose by 2 or 3, possibly first time Newcastle are coming to Old Trafford as favourites in the Premier League.

Next 3 games are very tough, maybe we scrape a result from somewhere but it does feel like all 3 will be defeats.

Have to say I'm not looking forward to this one, and it's one I'll actually be venturing out with some friends who are over to watch. I usually watch in silence from the comfort and relative safety of my living room.

I hold hope for a good performance and result, because you just don't know with this team. It's literally the flip of a coin sometimes.

I like to think we'll get a result at home, and anything like a good performance to get it will be a massive bonus - but I also wouldn't be surprise if the poor run of form continues and we get comfortably beat.

I have faith in this manager to get it right here eventually, and I'm more than willing to give him time to do that - but one things for sure, unless they've still got a hangover from Boxing Day, Newcastle will be more than up for this.

Genuinely wouldn't be shocked if we lose this, then go and beat Liverpool, then promptly play like shite and lose to Arsenal and Southampton. The type of team we are at the moment.

I try to be as optimistic as possible going into matches, but with Bruno and Ugarte (and Mount) out we've basically lost all legs in midfield. Unless Casemiro gives a performance of 3 years ago, we're screwed in midfield. It's not gonna be a good watch.

Not sure where I read it, but Amorim says he has only had four training sessions. That is insane...

Gone for us to win it 2-1. Classic trap game for Newcastle as they fail to play with enough intensity against relegation fodder.
If we fly out of the traps and surprise them with our intensity in the first 10 mins and grab a goal, I can see us pulling it off.

Just hope they can put in a decent response for the 70k.

If Hojlund is playing can we get him facing and running at the goal instead wrestling and falling over.

No clue what Amorim does for this game to be honest. There isn't any midfield combination I can think of that doesn't get pulled apart for 90 minutes. If I had to choose, I guess I'd go with:

    Onana

    Martinez
    De Ligt
    Maz

    Dalot
    Casemiro
    Eriksen
    Antony

    Mainoo
    Hojlund
    Amad

Cas and Eriksen have no legs, but they do at least give us a bit of goal threat from midfield. I'm also keen to see what Mainoo can bring a little further up the pitch, and he can drop in to support the midfield when necessary.

Could Collyer come into this game, he's a decent enough player, and gives us a bit of youthful energy if Casemiro is starting along side him. He's a good tackler and passes the ball quite well. Also got a bit of height to help out on set pieces.

I'm not wasting 2 hrs of my life watching this load of big time Charlie's.
I've turned my phone pings off . I will check after 10pm , to see if this bunch of useless feckkers can win a game they get highly paid to do. . Lucky dip on the starting 11 again.

    Bit out of the box:
    - play Mainoo as a 10 now Bruno isn’t there, if he succeeds keep him there
    - play Amad rwb again so we have an extra attacker there instead of a defender
    - play Garnacho in de Amad role at 10, let him run from the right, i thought last season he was better and more disciplined from the right than from the left
    - play Maz rcb or lwb, probably lwb because Dalot is really bad
    - play Casemiro in center midfield for his experience but with a young energetic player next to him for all the running, maybe Collyer.

    Something like:

    Onana

De Ligt - Maguire - Martinez

    Amad - Casemiro - Collyer - Maz

    Garnacho - Mainoo

    Hojlund

Gradually try some kids every game now instead of the old shit. Put Odi-Martin on the bench as well, he is as old as some of the Barca kids that get chances all the time. Maybe try Ethan Williams as lwb.

Losing Ugarte is a bigger blow than losing Bruno. It will be a colonoscopy through our midfield tonight but if somehow we defend well on set pieces and Onana returns to his early season form we might eke out a scoreless draw.

Extremely pessimistic about tonight. We could really do with an early goal to get the crowd going and remind ourselves that we’re actually capable of scoring. If we go behind we’re probably finished.
