    Agreed. We played much better football when Amad was RWB. Casemiro offers us a threat on attacking set pieces also.

    So, didn't realize Ugarte is suspended and there's no real chance that Amorim is abandoning the 3-4-3, so I guess I'd go with this:

    So difficult to pick a team for this game. Ugarte is a massive miss.

    Newcastle have won their last 4 games and no one have not scored against them in 3 of them. They are going to slaughter us.
     
    They’re on a good run but all fixtures you’d expect them to win except for Villa where they played an hour vs 10 men.

    No wins in four before that.

    We’ve 7 points from a possible 9 in the respective fixtures.

    I can’t think of a prem team, other than the one we’ve got coming up after them, that I’d rather play right now less than Newcastle. They always play like crackheads against us.

    That dreadful 1-0 loss under Moyes with Cabaye scoring the winner? Eleven years ago - I‘m getting old.

    Our 37th League game this year winning just 14 out of 36, drawing nine & losing 13. A total number of 18 home games in 2024, winning an abysmal eight, drawing four & losing six.

    Think you misunderstood my post. I meant it will be 5 losses in a row from our form. We’ve lost 3 in a row, tonight could be 4 and next week at Anfield will be 5.

    I'd go Maguire for Martinez and Garnacho for Eriksen personally but your comment on Rashford worries me as it would eradicate any of the position Amorim has taken so far if we bring him back in the squad now as we are low on numbers, there has to be a level set that he clearly isn't reaching in, if we allow him back for any reason the manager shows he can be pushed into folding, he needs to stay strong so people realise he won't lower his expectations.
     
    Do worry that the circumstances are similar to the League Cup defeat in November last year.

    We’d just been well beaten a few days earlier (against City), the mood was grim and there wasn’t really the appetite amongst the fans.

    Newcastle were in form strolled to a 0-3 win.
     
    May as well but Collyer and Mainoo in midfield for this. Starting Eriksen & Casimero is just waiting for the inevitable.

    Casemiro as actually been pretty good this season which is weird that he got dropped. He’s very good in the air so gives us strengths at defending and attacking set pieces.
     
    Only glimmer of hope is that this team has sometimes produced an improbable result with the back against the wall. It would somehow be quite typical for the past few years to lose to Wolves and then beat Newcastle. Definitely not expecting anything though. The quality is just too poor.

    Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if we won, lost or drew today; it feels like anything can happen with this team.

    Well it's not but the team is shit. Shit teams get shit results.

    We have a keeper who can't catch crosses and will be targeted every single time from corners and free kicks, not to mention liable to let in a howler or pass it straight to the opposition.

    We have a defence that can't defend set pieces.

    Without Ugarte, we have a midfield that can't run.

    We have a right footed left wing back who can't attack and can only check back and pass it backwards or sideways.

    They have Alexander Isak as their centre forward, we have Rasmus Hojlund.

    I'm not blaming Amorim for any of this except perhaps the set piece defending - he needs to make improving this a priority as it's putting us in a hole every game. However, none of the players are his, he inherited this shitshow of a squad from Ten Hag.
