    lost me at Antony

I wouldn't mind switching Dalot and Antony around. Get Antony onto his left foot and taking players on. He would have to adapt his game as he can't rely on his only trick, which is to cut in from the right and shoot/curl with his left.

It also plays to Dalot's strengths, rather than to his detriment on the left.

It hardly matters. They're both terrible. It's like deciding whether to fill your car up with milk or jam. Either way you're fecked

Garnacho NEEDS to start this one on the left and going forward. Bruno is useless in the front three. I'd also bench Mainoo as he is offering nothing. My XI would be:

    Onana
Yoro - Maguire - De Ligt
    Maz - Ugarte - Casemiro - Dalot
    Amad - Hojlund - Garnacho.

And i'd stick with most of that 11 as first choice for the foreseeable future/until we get reinforcements in.

    Onana
    Mazraoui - Maguire (c) - De Ligt
    Anthony - Casemiro - Mainoo - Amad
    Zirkzee - Eriksen
    Hojlund

Not overly confident with this side but would like to see how Hojlund and Zirkzee go together with a bit of added physicallity up top.

They're not ideal choices, but we have to play someone there. Dalot looks significantly weaker on the left. The only issue with playing him on the right is that Maz has been one of our better performers this season, so it's down to whether you put Maz on the right hand side of the back three, or you play him in that rwb position.

The bigger issue is who plays on the left. Shaw is constantly injured, Malacia is out of form and rusty as hell, which then leaves Dalot. He's also in terrible form, and is then further hampered by playing him in his weaker position. One major issue in his last game was his inability to take players on the outside, because he wants to play the ball to his right foot. It also means he has to take an extra touch, which further slows him down. It kills our attack on that left hand side completely. We have to try something different.

The major benefit of playing Antony there is that he is left footed. He hasn't worked on the right hand side, so this could be an opportunity to 'recycle' him and get some usage of him. We are limited with options. The only alternative is looking into the youth system and seeing who we can promote from there to play lwb.

None of this would be an issue if our first choice for this position (Luke Shaw) wasn't perpetually unfit and made of glass, and it's becoming a similar story for our second choice (Malacia). But, alas, we are where we are.

Taking my ten year old son to his first game, I should be getting done for child abuse, I can see us getting absolutely smashed, this is your club for life son.
Good man, do the Fergie trick if we lose, tell him to remember the feeling so that when we finally win again it will be extra glorious

    Scrappy 1 nil win.

Ugarte suspended mate, for this game

We need a winger on one of the wingback spots, Amad, Antony or even Garnacho. Dalot and Mazraoui or Malacia is not it.

Because Dalot can't create anything from either side, can't/won't cross and just shoots given the opportunity. Malacia is just awful physically it seems.. and Mazraoui is way too defensive, might be from Amorims orders, but when that happens Dalot gets most of the possession and that just kills attacks. The wingbacks are crucial for our chance creation, saw a stat on twitter that the goals we've scored has come the most when an attacking player has played as the wingback, probably Amad.

    lost me at Antony
Yeah I imagine he’ll rest Maz, will want Amad up top with lack of attacking options as I guess Rashford is now exiled. Bruno suspended, Mount injured. Probably rest Rasmus.

Guess he could play Malacia to shift Dalot to RWB but since we are cooked he might as well try and get attackers on the field hence why I think he’ll go with that formation.

Most of the teams posted just fill me with depression but I can’t really come up with anything better. Just hoping it’s one of those matches where we are all expecting the worst and we suddenly find a performance.

I suspect it will be the same team as versus Wolves but with Casemiro in for Ugarte and Eriksen in for Bruno. Hopefully, Amorim has come to some arrangement with Rashford where he’s at least available on the bench.

Is there anything to be said for an advanced Mainoo?

    Floundering in his current role.

Think that's the only place he can survive in this formation. Maybe as the 10 in a 3-4-1-2 or as part of a midfield 3 in a 3-5-2 but it would require two very mobile and quick forwards who can stretch the pitch. He looks like he can't handle the physical demands of a deeper central midfielder in this formation (3-4-3).

Difficult to see past a Newcastle win but you never know.

Just hope it’s a decent performance, we put a shift in and create a few chances as a minimum.

Confident of a loss. We tend to surprise though when we're clear underdogs.

I’d make Newcastle the favourites which is a depressing reality. We don’t have any number 10s or wing backs available in a 3-4-2-1 system.

    Onana

    Yoro
    Maguire
    De Light

    Maz
    Casemiro
    Mainoo
    Garnacho

    Amad
    Zirzkee

    Hojilund

    Brutal.

Not looking good for the next couple of games, it’s going to get fun in here….not!

I have read many of the posts here and the clear consensus is a Newcastle away win.
Before I read them, I was feeling a bit optimistic and bizarrely still do.

Amorim will have a few days to work on coaching the way he wants.
But now I have read that Ugarte is suspended, that is a big blow.
So I am going with a creditable 0-0. Can't believe I am saying that about United at home to Newcastle.

that's the forward line I've wanted all season... but it would be so much more effective if we could pass to them!

With Jason Tindall being sent off on Boxing Day, at least we'll be spared having the cameras focused on him for half of the game.

When do managers ever quit their jobs by themself?
Its rare but it can happen when they are not backed off the pitch and on-pithh results are getting worse. But i dont think Amorim is the type to walk away from this challenge now provided the club gives him the patience and support they promised when they approached him.

Probably the best 11 to deal with Newcastle’s height and physicality. We’ll need Maguire, De Ligt and Casemiro to deal with set pieces. If we win, we’ll have to win ugly and our experienced players will have to lead the way. Captain’s armband to Maguire for the rest of the season.
Maquire is not a captain, De Ligt

Arsenal could embarass us even without Saka. They'll probably come ready to score a hat trick of direct corners.
I really hope Amorim has the smarts to highlight their bullshit corner tactics and professional fouling before the match.
