Must win game, I can see the team picking up the victory given the occasion and being at OT.

Just want to see De Ligt start. Maguire has been good but is still prone to the customary brain fart which often costs us a goal.

Would also want to see Amad continue to be given a run on the right.

Ideally Rashford would be dropped for Garnacho too but don't see that happening.

One thing tenHag must learn is not to make wierd changes during game. I don't like changing anyone in the back for unless they are injuried or we are down. You should never change centerbacks unless you must.

No new Liverpool manager has beaten United at the first attempt since Bob Paisley…
Not many new Liverpool managers have taken over a good Liverpool team. Klopp has left the best Liverpool side in recent decades anyway. Still though, hate seeing those stats cause they get beaten eventually!

Annoyingly it seems EtH will spend half the season trying to play Rashford into form, like last season, but he just never finds it

I expect a defeat if Hag persists with a flash 9 and Maguire st the back. I get he wants to bed de ligt in but he's slowing us down. He has chemistry with Mouzaouri from Bayern and has played with Onana and possibly Martinez. Up the pitch will be a bit new but already a good benefit at the back.

    I'd like to see:

    Onana
    Dalot MDL Martinez Mouzaouri
Casemiro Mainoo (rather he hold and push Casa up)
    Amad Bruno Garancho
    Zirkzee

Rashford does not deserve to start, we need to see a lot more from him. Garnacho has been better and Amad I think offers more. Saying that, having Garnacho from the bench could be useful, but we should always start our best team.

Hope can give Arnie a torrid time, 7 0 would be nice. Realistically, I think 2-1 to them, Salah looks like he means business this year.

What are the chances he goes with

    Garnacho Rashford Amad
I think it's very likely. He has no choice but to start Garnacho. Amad needs consistent run of games at this level and got a good goal vs Brighton so he doesn't deserve to be dropped IMO. I don't see him dropping Rashford, I'd imagine he will start him up front.

Liverpool have a very strong frontline.

The midfield and defence is not what it once was. We can overrun and bully them. They are not what all those scouse loving pundits say they are.

We just need to be sensible and not get caught on the break. If we can defend well then we can definitely win this.

Sound analysis and I like your measured optimism. I honestly think the hype around liverpool is far too early and misplaced. They got lucky in the first two games despite playing poorly. A strong press against their back 4 will cause them issues.

I am grateful this is at home, I think we're better this season, but not good enough to go toe to toe with them at Anfield right now. They'll be hurting after he quarter final, but at home I think we've got it in us to beat them.

So, I don't know how any of this works...is Ugarte eligible to play tomorrow?

If he is I hope he gets into the match, there is no better way for a player like him to start his United career than to get into a match against Liverpool and put a hard challenge in on Salah.

    Onana
Dalot - De Ligt - Martinez - Mazraoui
    Casemiro - Mainoo
    Amad - Bruno - Garnacho
    Zirkzee
The team should pick itself but knowing Ten Hag, Rashford and Maguire will still be in there. Not confident.

they’ve been bang average their first two games.

Ultimately it's a 2 game sample, so it doesn't really matter much. But they're 3rd in xG and 1st in xGA. In what world is that average?

We can beat them, like we can beat anyone. But the facts are they're creating a lot of chances and not conceding many so far.

This should be easy for Liverpool on paper. Casemiro and Erikson, but no Mount, no McT, no Ugarte. They should be able to slaughter our midfield.

We need to win this. It may seem hyperbolic as it's only the third game, but I feel that we can set the tone for the season with a win here. In EtH's first season the win against pool helped boost confidence in the team and I think we can do the same here. Besides, the game is at OT, it's up to us to go for it.

I think Maguire drops out for De Ligt, Zirkzee replaces Mount, and the rest of the team stays the same. As long as we don't have collapses in defense (which admittedly looks like a tall task after Brighton) and put fresh legs on for Casemiro/Mainoo in the second half, we are good enough to win.

We usually start the Liverpool games very well under Ten Hag. Even in The Game That Shall Not Be Named, we were the better team in the first half. I fancy us to come out firing in the first 30 mins and hopefully we capitalise on that early pressure with a goal or two.

    Not eligible.
He was signed too late to be eligible for this game, but even if he was, he wouldn't have been fit or ready.
He hasn't played since the Copa America tournament, had no pre-season and hasn't had a chance to get to know his new team mates, train and be coached to whatever way ETH wants him and the team to play.
He could make his first appearance in the League Cup match against Barnsley, following the next EPL game, away at Southampton, in 2 weeks time.

Feels like we always play the Scousers after a loss. And usually we bounce back. 2-1 Garnacho and Case.

    Why would Eriksen start?

He won't but he's the only experienced person who can realistically replace any of the three midfielders. We don't have Amrabat or Mount or McT or Ugate. We kinda screwed in midfield right now.

I'm sure the 3 of them will play the full 90 but if there are any midfield injuries vs Liverpool then I guess we'll have to throw Collyer into the deep end. Or maybe Martinez as an emergency DM.

Well I think we will get battered so maybe that levels it out.

hopefully. as early as it is i think it could be one of the defining games for us. a win would set us up well before the break with ugarte and de ligt hopefully to be be introduced after the internationals. Im hopeful ugarte will help us a lot.
