Even if we lose, I want to see some progress in attacking combinations from the training pitch. 8 days since our last game to work on it. No excuses.

I think De Ligt would be a better option against Jota than Maguire, a bit more agile and quick, I would like to see him start.

Just win, honestly, don’t care how.

I don’t know how this is going to go, effectively it’s just a slightly tinkered with Klopp team which was fairly damn good and consists of pretty much all the same players.

We’ve really worked hard on our pressing but a big part of that has been Mount. He’s out injured and we’ve looked fairly toothless even with all that pressing.

I’m wondering if he’ll go at them and press or sit back and try them on the counter by putting Rashford up top Garnacho on the wing and Amad. Or Zirk as a target man and Rashford Garnacho playing off of him.

I hope we win but even if we lose I hope we put on a performance.

Feel like the media's knives are being sharpened for ETH if we lose this. It will have been a very poor start to the season if we lose this in fairness.

I’ll take a draw and a good performance.

We are still in transition. Patience is still needed.

    Onana

Mazraoui - De Ligt - Martinez - Dalot

    Casemiro - Mainoo

    Amad - B.Fernandes - Garnacho

    Zirkzee
subs: Bayindir, Maguire, Evans, Armass, Collyer, Kone, Eriksen, Antony, Rashford (struggling to fill the bench with all these injuries and Ugarte not being registered on time for this game)

score prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool

I'm sure the 3 of them will play the full 90 but if there are any midfield injuries vs Liverpool then I guess we'll have to throw Collyer into the deep end. Or maybe Martinez as an emergency DM.
Mainoo's ability to play 90 minutes is famously untested.

Really we have a first/second choice midfield of Ugate/Casemiro, Bruno/Erikson and Mainoo/Mount which you can mix up a bit depending who you are playing. But two of those are unavailable today (Ugarte and Mount) and two more are past their sell by date (Erikson and Casemiro). So it's a problem.

Bruno would have to be very very disciplined for that midfield to work against the Scouse

Tactics could be the same as against Brighton, or we could see a mid press instead of a high press.

Our current strategy suits playing against Pool. We need to take our chances though.

This is the biggest issue currently.

That would be strange as we have been playing more on the front font with a higher line. Although Mounts absence really affects our pressing.
I just think a high line plays massively to our advantage on the break, something we've looked to utilise in the last couple of games...I'd have thought ETH would have been cute and looked to sit and overload the left on the break. I'm probably overthinking this though.

We are about an inch from Zirkzee’s knee away from having 6 points out of 6. Our performances have improved greatly too.

    Yep

Our finishing has been absolutely abysmal.

One of the compounding elements to it is that when we are on the wrong end of quantum physics VAR decisions and the softest penalties that are supposedly “technically probably penalties cause in todays game lots of things are sort of technically penalties” , we get hit harder.

You’d like to believe that if we can have a proper game where we take our chances , where the team just clicks , that we could go on a proper run and things would just take off from there.

We know how media are toward us. We should just ignore whatever they write.

We have started ok. Should have won against Brighton but was mm from it. Goal there and Brighton would have been finished. Unlucky.

Aye, this team needs it's Cantona.

Same. Liverpool have started well winning their first 2 games while we already lost one out of first 2 (again).

    Yep

People forget how important he was or don’t actually realise it.

When I see people say “manager over relies on x player” in a derogatory insinuation against the manager I think it’s kind of a silly point.

When Eric Joined , United was languishing mid table halfway through a season and helps us win that league. The next league title we didn’t win was when he was banned. Then we won the league when he returned and he basically won a lot of our games later on in season with his goals.

Cantonas genius and impact at United is , in my view, underrated. It wasn’t just his goals, it was his presence , personality and application that helped build the foundation for United’s dominance. That includes his influence on the youngsters and class of 92.

If we had him today , we’d win in my view.

Yeah, to avoid the risk of taking the tread off topic, I'll just say I agree.

So only me not looking forward to the game today then. Although I am hoping 2-1 win at the same time a nervous wreck :( Again 3rd game of the season it feels like a must-win game

It hasn't even started to become a problem yet. Let's wait and see.

I'd rather have one Ugarte than two poor midfielders in Amrabat and Mctominay.

We might lack midfield depth off the bench vs Liverpool but it's matchday today so I refuse to be negative for the next 4 hours :D

Do we know when Ugarte was actually registered and therefore available? I know the announcement was late in the day but doesn’t necessarily mean his registration was after cut-off.

    God I miss the 90s…

Sorry , won’t derail thread anymore … Feeling neutral to negative about today , but sure let’s give it a lash Eric.

Wait a second. Eric Cantona. Eric Ten Haag.
    Two Eric’s …

Boom.. I’ve found my pre match clutching at straws optimism. By 7pm, our season will take off, king Eric back at the helm baby…

I wouldn't say must win, but there is more pressure on it because we fecked up against Brighton when we probably should have won.

I have a good feeling about today's match. I hope we start a striker though, need someone on who can finish.

I am thinking it will be

    Mazraoui Maguire Martinez Dalot
    Casemiro Mainoo
    Amad Bruno Garnacho
    Rashford.

Zirkzee and De Ligt in second half.

Low block and long balls behind the defensive line for Rashford and Garnacho to run into.

Most likely Liverpool win due to School boys errors.

All time and forever favourite of mine for exactly the impact he had as described.

    No GK could hurt us.

It would be kinda humiliating if their bald manager defeats ours in his 3rd game in charge while eth is on his 3rd season.

Meaningless fact but last time we played Liverpool on September 1st was in 2013 (also Sunday) and lost 1-0 at Anfield. Sturridge scored the goal.

Do we know this for a fact? I would feel a lot better if we had him on the bench if we can...

I'm not expecting a really high quality game. Think it's going to be quite slow and sloppy in places. Would love an Amad winner!

Today is not the day to keep a few players happy. Maguire and Rashford can start on the bench.

Give De Ligt and Garnacho/Amad the responsibility.

Hopefully we score at least 3 goals. Decent finishing is very long overdue
