Elite managers are elite managers because they recognise problems early and make tough calls.
Yeh fair. Problem is there’s not many elite managers out there and certainly it wasn’t any of the options we were linked with this summer.

It's way to early to rule Zirkzee out though, he's not match fit and learning a new league and team. Going hard on him is too reactionary.

I actually agree that ETH is on thin ice, but as long as we're trying to play out from the back with Casemiro we're toast, no matter who the manager is.

Yes I agree. Just saying he looked clumsy and off the pace today.

If you told me we were a top four proposition by new year I wouldn't be surprised. If you told me we were in the bottom half of the table and ETH was sacked I also wouldn't be surprised. It's that kind of season.

If you told me Casemiro ever put in an impressive shift against a decent side ever again. Now that would surprise me. He needs to retire.

That was fecking shit. Liverpool were fecking shit and we lost 3-0. So I suppose we were really fecking shit.

Yeah today wasn't great, but we were generally quite disjointed. Liverpool were a perfect example of what we're trying to do - winning the ball high and punishing us with incisive attacking moves. We won the ball in dangerous positions quite a lot too, but rarely did anything useful with it.

This season could go either way, but Casemiro is finished.

Collyer would have done no better than Casemiro. The problem was McT going early and Ugarte arriving late. But in any case we would have lost because Liverpool, Arsenal and City are all much better than us.

I'm not going to go round and round debating this player vs that player, the point is this - Casemiro was obviously finished last season. We could all see it, the pundits could see it, EtH even left him out of the FA Cup Final. Not only that, his attitude was questionable...the chipped penalty, returning overweight, the nonchalant attitude to horrendous mistakes.

However, we've gone into this season and he's still at the club and he's still costing us games. We did this with DDG. We did this with Rooney. We have done this with so many other fringe players or squad players - clinging on to inadequate players in the belief something will change or click.

Case in point, Rashford. He's done at this club, finished. A well-run club would have gotten £50m this Summer and reinvested it wisely. Not keep talking about a purple patch he had 18-months ago.

We need to learn to fail fast. When something goes wrong, you fix it quick. You don't compound the problem by making the same mistakes over and over again.

For what it's worth, I think Collyer will end up Championship at best...but I'd take a Championship player who can run over a player who was good once but can't, for the same reason I'd take Collyer over Scholes, Keane and Bryan Robson right now

I entirely agree. Where I disagree (not necessarily with you) is that this is the fault of ETH. He's not really in charge of the mechanics of transfers any more. Everyone wanted to see Casemiro go but the Saudis weren't buying. Everyone wanted Ugarte here earlier but the Qataris weren't selling till the last minute. Nobody would have wanted to sell McT without cover but they had to shift someone to buy Ugarte.

If it's any consolation we would most likely have lost no matter what. It's embarrassing but I want to see where we are in January. If ETH is still making a meal of things then fine let's replace him. But today we just got annihilated by a much better midfield than the one we had. It was entirely predictable and predicted before the game the this would happen and so it did. In no world were Casemiro and Mainoo performing for 90+ minutes in this environment even on a good day. And it wasn't a good day.

Can't see who the replacement is.

Zidane is continuitty Casemiro. Tuchel doesn't want it. RvN is Ole.

We are looking at Brendan Rodgers, Graham Potter or Gareth Southgate if we rush to the sack.
On what basis? Because he happens to be a former United striker as well??

All as I’ve seen is a manager in his third season trying to re-build the team he had 6yrs ago by recruiting former Ajax players. There’s no real game plan and we looked unfit trying to keep up with a Liverpool side who predictably play a high line press.
Against a manager that is 3 games in.

In the words of the late, great Graham Taylor .. “fookin el”

I will say it’s only game 3 of the season. It’s also worth mentioning that, after countless poor performances last season, and a poor finish .. if we didn’t win the FA Cup then there’d be very few people who’d want ETH at the club.

It would be typical of us to go on a run now after the international break and climb the table, but I still don’t have much confidence in this team and certain players i.e Rashford, who we most certainly should’ve cashed in on this summer

Means feck all, we created our chances after they eased off at 3-0 and even then still could have been at least 5-0.

It was a fecking sad display and nothing has changed since last season. I know Dutch managers are stubborn and Hag is unlikely to change his tactics, that's why he should have been sacked months ago.

    Liverpool passing around cones
I was sat in the east upper and during the warmup I watched Liverpool players in a tight group ping the ball around amongst one another. I looked up to see our lads popping off a few shots from the edge of the area and asked the question to my mate “why the feck aren’t our players doing that”

This is why xG is bollocks. Liverpool thoroughly deserved to win 3-0 despite being utter shite and despite the fact we "dominated".

I agree, it also doesn't take into account the disallowed goal which is daft.

Just thought it was interesting that they had 3 shots on target and scored 3 goals. In terms of being clinical they are levels above us. Reminded me of the 7-nil when they "only" actually had 8 shots on target.

Us on the other hand. We'd need about 10 chances to score 3.

Yeah, xG is useful in some ways but doesn’t always show the real story.

Pool did everything better than us and matched us for effort. We got schooled.

They also were very clinical and that is why it was 0-3, not 1-2 or something.

Defeats, even thrashings, have become so common under ETH that I'm usually over them a couple of hours after the game

This one has really really annoyed me though. My annoyance isn't subsiding.

Taken the optimism out of the new season. Still no style of play. Third year and there is absolutely no progress on turning us into a title challenging team. Knowing it's inevitably going to be another shite season. Even sacking him doesn't solve the issue because then we have to start from scratch and enter the management market at a time where there are slim pickings.

    Awful awful awful

That opening sentence is the most damning of Ten Hag.

I would bet good money on the Liverpool match not being our low point this season. We will have worse performances and we will have worse results. We will continue to see the same mistakes, continue to see our defence being regularly outnumbered by attackers and continue to struggle to create chances.

These are not new problems, but Ten Hag just doesn't seem to have a solution for them.

I 'joked' last week that we have already peaked this season with the win over Fulham and it'll all be downhill from there. But I am starting to feel it now.

Gun to my head, I would say United beat Southampton. But it would not surprise me in the slightest if we lose comprehensively either.

Definitely not if ETH stays on. We will have similar losses to worse teams, and bigger losses to the likes of City or Arsenal.

Ideally a 3-0 loss at home to Liverpool should be the worst loss in a long time, but in this case you only have to go back to May (0-4 to Crystal Palace).

Even if we win, we will find some way to make it a slightly annoying win, like we did so many times last year. Like we will go ahead 2-0, then concede one immediately after half-time, get a player sent off and hang on for dear life.
