Because the alternative in this game is a 4/10 Rashford.
I fancy Rashford vs TAA more than Mount to be fair. However slow he's become, he should be dangerous vs Trent.

Only that Trent will be loving all the time and space he'll have on the ball as well.

But not 4/10 Rashford. Deserved to be dropped and maybe used to run riot in the 2nd half.

Rashford will start. Not because he deserves to but just because he usually does decent against Liverpool and also because he is always given a million chances before being dropped.

I really hope ETH gets our defence right. Maguire was immense in the first game against Fulham but not great at Brighton. Bring in De Ligt, you never know which Maguire you’ll get.

Midfield is looking like it picks itself, McT gone, Mount injured. Two DM forced on us might be a blessing in disguise.

That would be a mistake. Our best player in the press in the past two games is out injured and our weak link both in and out of possession at the moment is Rashford. The harsh reality is we stand a much better chance of winning this game if Rashford is not on the pitch.

With Mason Mount once again becoming the Missing Man, the team should be:

    ----------------------------Zirkzee-----------------------------
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    Rashford---------------------------------------Garnacho
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    -------------------Bruno----------Mainoo------------------
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    ---------------------------Casemiro---------------------------
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    Dalot-----------------------------------------------Mazraoui
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    ----------------Martinez--------de Ligt----------------------
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    -----------------------------Onana-------------------------------

They should be winning this easily, if we're being honest. Salah is more or less nailed on to score and I'm not sure we're capable of scoring two goals in a match.

I feel quietly confident. We're better defensively than we were last season and will have Ugarte to bring in if we're getting overrun. Liverpool have been good so far bit showed in both games that they're vulnerable to counters, which is what we're best at. I think we can get something out of this.

Ah f**k, I forgot this was our game this weekend, well at least I will get Friday and Saturday

If we lose at least its only the very last bit of the weekend ruined. Losing to them at 12:30 on a Saturday would be horrible.

If it were my team I'd throw Ugarte back in and maintain the same high press out of possession we've played well in. I'd go with this.
    Onana
    Mazraoui MDL Martinez Dalot
    Ugarte Mainoo
    Amad Bruno Garnacho
    Zirkzee

We all know EtH will almost certainly play two out of Maguire, Case and Rashy though. I can only hope they won't shit the bed as usual.

I'm not saying it should be this match, but this manager owes us a convincing dispatching of Liverpool at some point. A part of me is still salty about the thrashing.

Is that not just a lack of pre-season? Should be up to speed by now?
Been the case last season as well, also during the Euro's.

Him and Brobbey are the only Ghanaians youngsters I know with poor stamina, usually they are all freaks of nature (which they also are in some sense).

Better teams than this United have been beaten by Pool teams and worse teams than this United have beaten Pool. If the players turn up we have a good chance of beating them. EtH has trended towards figuring them out based on our recent results. I think we might get a win.

Rashford will be offside more often than not. We stand no chance if Rashford plays for more than 50 minutes. Personally I’d like to see Rashford dropped completely but realistically on the bench.
I’m hoping ETH has learnt from his recent performances.

I’d love to see a front 3 of Garnacho, Zirkzee and Amad. But I know we won’t.

one of his very first games we battered Liverpool 4-0 didn’t we. But that was only in pre season. That game would have been what gave us all optimism that year.

    Onana
    Mazraoui De Ligt Martinez Dalot
    Casemiro Mainoo
    Garnacho Bruno Rashford
    Zirkzee

Mount injured, McTominay left and Ugarte won'te be able to play this one so basically we'll only have one midfielder on bench in Eriksen.

Eriksen, Amad and Antony to come on in 2nd half.

For what reason should Rashford start? I know he will start but he really shouldn't

I don't want to feel negative about this, but feel this will be the turn of the screw for ETH, I hope not but am feeling a limp performance and loss

Lose this and negative mood and media speculation starts and won't go away for few weeks with International break coming. And honestly can't say I'm confident. Hate games vs Liverpool even since Fergie days.

I just want us to play well and show signs of being a functioning team with a clear direction, regardless of the opponents.
I feel like we’ve been saying that for years. But i agree, but it’s early days in the season and I’d rather us play compact and not so beautiful and win then look cohesive and lose. We have next game to gel :angel:

Do we know this for certain? We're two days out from the match and his signing has been confirmed, could he not at least be on the bench?

Heard on the Athletic podcast that these two have played each other 8 times and won 4 each. General consensus in Holland is that Slott is more likeable and charismatic than Ten Hag.

Apparently he last played football game on July 14th so even if he's registered I don't expect him to play but don't know really.

What a disgusting defeatist attitude by some of you. This is not klopp’s Liverpool and if you’ve actually been watching, they’ve been bang average their first two games. One thing we’ve done well under ten Hag is step up big in these moments. Massive win incoming before the international break.
