DDG back in goal, with new deal, is a massive boost for this. Puts a much different spin on things.

I feel that De Gea's return and Rooney's achievement will mean we will have that added boost on both ends of the pitch where we have struggled recently. I am much more confident now going into this match that we will not only win, but win comfortably.

We will also have Martial available who can climb the ladder several steps if he puts in a good performance.

Pool are missing several key players too.

Forget the MNF love-in … we want more of this:

Unfortunately that sort of thing doesnt happen any more.
Right now, our players are a bunch of very nice guys.
I said this during the transfer window, that every top team has a few cnuts (divers, cheats, obnoxious individuals, etc) in them. We have no one who fits that description.
During our most dominant times we had the likes of Keane. Arsenal had Vieira (and once he left, they didnt win anything for a long time), Chelsea have several.
For the time being, we will need to win games by being nice and I'm not sure if that's even possible.

Well, Rooney only seems to score from a penalty spot. And somebody else needs to win that penalty for him.
I have no hope that he will score in open play, in the EPL. Maybe he might score 5-10 goals - basically average.
De Gea is a boost, no doubt about that.
Martial is very young and as LVG has stated (that Martial will perform for the next manager in charge, in a few years), he doesnt expect anything special from Martial.

Pool are missing several key players too.

I think Countinho is missing. If so, this will be a big loss for them.
So, their goal scoring threat could be weak...but then we are weak in attack, also. We don't have a striker (apart from Rooney...who can't score).

To predict the score line is difficult because this fixture is like a Cup game.

    That's not the point.

You have a rule in place, players can't be above that rule, or the rule won't be respected.

You could argue that Romero's form hasn't been brilliant, but the last game David played for us wasn't either, I haven't seen his international performance recently, so couldn't comment there, but Romero has done well with the chance he's been given.

Romero played til 5am Thursday morning (UK Time) in Texas,USA. Texas to the UK is around 11/12 hour flight, He probably didn't report to training til today because of the flying etc. Today's session is probably a light one to keep the guys fresh for Tomorrow. De Gea on the other hand was in training on Wednesday and yesterday.

I'm also extremely confident and far more so before this fixture than any other time I can remember.

I think Rooney getting his 50 for England will gee him up a bit. DDG in nets. Scousers in disarray. We are better than them all over the pitch so let's just hope we go out there and play. They are there for the taking.

What will dropping Romero for DDG do to the process we claim to use? Rewarding form & loyalty?

Unless he signs a contract and performs brilliantly at training, I'd rather Romero, despite DDG being a better player, it says players above the philosophy, as silly as some of his rules are, he must now stick to them.
Romero did well but wasn't great at Swansea. I don't see the issue in replacing him with the 2nd best keeper in the world.

This will be the game that everyone looks back on and says: "Remember how we used to doubt Van Gaal? Remember how so many people thought Rooney was finished? Remember when we thought we would limp through the season and only qualify for the CL in the last weeks of the season? Remember the Liverpool game in September when we absolutely destroyed them and then went on a 20 game winning run, sweeping all before us?"

    Probably.

It's a testament to Fellaini's improvement that I'm seriously hoping he starts tomorrow. He can do some damage to that defense.

DDG; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Shaw; Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Herrera; Depay, Rooney, Mata

That would be my preferred line up, similar to last season. Let's hope we try a proper 4-3-3 again that worked well for us

I just hope that we really fly at them from the first whistle. None of this passing it around the back four for 10 minutes. I want a Fergie style whirlwind at the start of the match and you never know we could easily be 2 or 3 up by half time. They are without Henderson and Coutinho and they have got a collapse in them if we properly apply some pressure.

I don't think we'll see it, but I live in hope.........

Agreed but I think we can do some damage with the alternatives too.

Redknapp was right about this lot. They're as bad as they have ever been and we should really be taking them apart.

    De Gea
    Darmian-Smalling-Blind-Shaw
    Schweinsteiger-Schneiderlin
    Mata-Herrera-Memphis
    Rooney

subs: Romero, McNair, Valencia, Carrick, Fellaini, Young, Martial

Or Carrick in for Schweinsteiger, not bothered who. I'm delighted that Carrick is fit.

I just hope we can score some goals tomorrow. We need some confidence flowing around the top end of the pitch.

Liverpool will almost certainly try to target Blind with Benteke when they decide to play long. It seems as if Rodger's has stopped trying to play out from the back and go more direct so it's very important we have Schneiderlin on the left hand side of a midfield two to compete with Benteke for those long balls and 2nd balls.

Would love to see us press them high since their back 4 is a disaster. Lovren and Mignolet are terrible and Gomez isn't a fullback.
