I think it’ll be a bit of a struggle today. I hope we’ll have enough to win, but I’m feeling pretty cautious about this one. Hopefully being at home will help get us over the line.

I predicted Hojlund would be rested. Amorim said he was shattered on Thursday and we have to manage the squad with 2 games a week for the foreseeable future.

All our players look shattered, we really need to get to a point where our first 11 have the fitness to get through multiple games.

I get this lineup with Arsenal coming up mid week but Amad is wasted as a wing back

It really depends on the opposition. In a game like today, where we’re expected to dominate possession, Amad is likely to find himself positioned high up the pitch. This allows him to make a significant impact in the final third, utilising his creativity and attacking flair.

However, against a team like Arsenal, where we’d anticipate being pushed back and defending deeper, his effectiveness would likely diminish. In those situations, his lack of defensive instincts could become a liability. For such matches, I’d opt for a more balanced approach, with Shaw and Dalot offering both defensive solidity and the ability to contribute in transitional play.

Would be great to see Yoro get a few minutes today.

Having Mainoo back would be great as well.

Amorim certainly has a penchant for squad rotation, doesn’t he? It’s a positive approach, as it not only keeps the squad fresh but also allows him to evaluate our players comprehensively—not just in terms of their technical and tactical abilities, but also their physical attributes and mental resilience.

This approach is a stark contrast to Erik ten Hag, who preferred to stick with a more consistent lineup and rotated sparingly. However, I believe that once Amorim identifies his strongest XI and establishes a settled core, we’ll see a reduction in rotation.
Think he's just very conscious about how busy this December period is

Zirkzee must be great in training...

He doesn't deserve more than 20 minutes. Bad call.

He’s got a squad to figure out and he’s using them all. It’s a team game with a squad. No one should be expected to start.

Interesting that we have gone with Beto today. Suppose Dyche has seen your games and figured there is space behind and over the top.

Zirksee and Rashford after running for about 5mins.

    Manager says Hojlund is shattered.

Luckily it looks so far, if you're not performing he's not shy to sub you off early.

I'm not convinced by our lineup. We are playing another crap team so it shouldn't be a problem, but we have a very tough end to the first half of this season, I expect a better lineup in those games.

Which is completely logical, and means he actually wants to win games. Unlike our previous guy.

I'm a bit worried about the midfield. Ugarte will be a big miss but I understand that we have to keep an eye on Arsenal. Hopefully Bruno and Casemiro maintain their defensive awareness. Excited to have Mainoo back, let's see what he can do at 10. Happy for Maguire as well. Curious to see where Zirkzee and Rashford play.

Really looking forward to seeing how well Mainoo fits into the system. Or I would be if I could fecking watch it like the rest of the world can.

I guess Zirkzee has to get some minutes with all the necessary rotation at the moment, and he can't perform much worse than he was last match.

Time for Rashford and Zirkzee to show up. Garnacho off the bench can have a big impact.

Everton might have a go; we need Rashford to get in behind.

We have to rotate with all these games close together and Amorim is doing it.

    Excited for Kobbie time.

    I feel the same.

The big question is whether he’ll play in the pivot or as a No. 10, and who Amorim will choose to lead the line between Zirkzee and Rashford. Amorim seems to favor running power in his forwards, and it's fair to say Zirkzee doesn’t quite offer that dynamic. On the other hand, Rashford showed promise in the right inside-forward role when he came on, which might influence Amorim’s thinking.

I assume it will be Kobbie in midfield and Bruno as a 10 but I won't be shocked if it's the other way around.

Zirkzee in as the no.9 with Rashford as no.10?

I would expect that Arsenal will be what Amorim believes is our strongest line up and perhaps today reflects that.

It makes predicting our line ups be difficult but I think it's fair to say seems to be happy with De Ligt as the CCB, Maz as RCB and one of Shaw/Martinez as LCB. Amad seems to be main choice as RWB for now but interested to see if this changes as we get more players available.

The forward line and midfield combinations seem to be more unpredictable but with players returning to full fitness and a lot of fixtures I think it will be a little while until we're a settled team.

It’s quite annoying seeing outlets continuously lining us up in a 4 at the back formation just because we don’t have 3 recognised CB’s on the pitch, when it’s been evident since Amorim’s first game he doesn’t mind using full backs as CB’s and wingers as wing backs.

Mazraoui, Dalot, Fernandes the main men — three undisputed starters in the games of significance. Amad and De Ligt slightly behind that, then everyone else so far has been rotational until they prove starting XI quality

    Good to see Kobbie back

I expected Rasmus, Mount and Ugarte wouldn’t start today, looks like Shaw is also saved for Arsenal which is a right call.

Bench looks strong, and Amorim has shown he’s happy to make plenty of in game changes so far. I expect to see at least two of: Shaw, Garnacho, Mount, and Hojlund on mid second half

Can’t see Zirkzee getting much change out of Branthwaite and Tarkowski, or Rashford, whichever is leading the line. Hopefully we can still create some chances elsewhere.
