Based on the fact that United and Burnley have played the most long balls in the league so far, this game should be great for Fellaini. I'm expecting end to end stuff, literally. No need for any passing players, we'll bypass midfield anyway.

Love how they focus on that and ignore the fact that United are also very close to the top for short passes. Basically, we pass the ball a feckload more than other teams do. Which isn't surprising considering we generally have a lot of unpressured possession for long periods of every game.

    We pass it backwards mostly..

I've noticed there's still a hell of a lot of hatred for 3-5-2 here, surely the past few games have confirmed it isn't this formation that's the problem, its the style and tempo of our play?

    De Gea
    Valencia
    Jones
    Smalling
    Rojo
    Blind
    Herrera
    Di Maria
    Rooney
    Mata
    RVP

would be my team. 4-2-3-1 with Mata on the left, Di Maria on the right and Rooney playing off of RVP.

Hope to see Rooney play as number 10.
    DDG
    Valencia-Jones-Smalling-Rojo-
    Blind
    Fellaini-Herrera
    Mata-Rooney
    RVP
    Herrera should start IMO.

Evans and Fellaini will come in for Shaw and Januzaj.

Dropping Januzaj is the 'easy' decision to make. Van Persie and Falcao will both start again, no doubt.

    --------De Gea----------
    Valencia-Jones--Rojo-- Shaw
    -----Herrera-- Blind--------
    Mata--- Rooney---- Di Maria
    --------Van Persie--------

Hope he starts something like this.

    ----------------de gea---------------
    Valencia---Smalling--Rojo---Young
    ------------Herrera--Blind-----------
    ----Rooney-----Mata--------Di Maria
    ----------------Falcao----------------

    ----------------de gea---------------
    Valencia---Smalling--Rojo---Young
    ------------Herrera--Blind-----------
    ----Rooney-----Mata--------Di Maria
    ----------------Falcao----------------

    Perfect.....shame we won't see it

Falcao and RvP will start I reckon. Mata in for Januzaj is the only change I expect other than obviously Shaw's omission.

We won't play a back 4 with Young and Valencia.

    Wont happen but i hope:

    ----------------Valdes---------------
    Valencia---Smalling--Rojo---Young
    -----------------Blind--------------
    ------Herrera---Mata---Di Maria----
    --------Rooney----------Falcao-------

Gone for a 4-1-3-2 (or 3-5-2 with blind in back line and fullbacks turn to wingbacks):

So go for Valdes in goal, guy needs a good run out. No good keeping him on the bench all the time, give DDG a rest. I gone for an attacking full backs (or wingbacks) with Young and Valencia, both of them can push up and provide width and like to see more crosses going in the box. Blind in front of defense, been uniteds best summer signing imo. Herrera, Mata & Di Maria in central midfield, if united want to play a more fluent, 1-2 passing football then you need these 3 on, these guys have great link-up between them. and then Rooney & Falcao up front, RVP & Falcao partnership isnt working as they're too similar players and both lack movement. So either Rooney or Wilson need to play runs and pull off the defenders etc, lack of movement up there and you need a different striker to provide more movement and open up the defense.

    What I'd like to see:

    De Gea
    Rafael - Smalling - Jones - Rojo
    Herrera - Blind
Januzaj - Rooney - Di Maria
    RvP

What I think we will see:

    De Gea
    Smalling - Jones - Rojo
Valencia - Rooney - Blind - Di Maria - Young
    RvP - Falcao

    What I'd like to see:

    De Gea
    Rafael - Smalling - Jones - Rojo
    Herrera - Blind
Januzaj - Rooney - Di Maria
    RvP

What I think we will see:

    De Gea
    Smalling - Jones - Rojo
Valencia - Rooney - Blind - Di Maria - Young
    RvP - Falcao

I like you're first line-up, but besides Rooney put Mata in there because Rooney just lacks the creativity compared to the likes of Mata & Herrera. Also i doubt Rafael will play, guy has been out favored atm so if Valenica was to be rested then McNair will most likely play there considering he had good game against Leicester in the full back position.

Second line-up is just not screaming goals, RVP and Falcao is the massive downfall. Both guys cant link up and lack the movement to create an option for the midfielders to pick out. Also again Rooney in midfield, i can see him playing there in his later stage of his career but for now the guy doesnt have the vision or technicality to play there. Guy has played most of his career up front or playing off the front striker and for him to play in a much deeper role and put out a decent performance is unlikely because he hasnt experienced enough to play there. And then the back line, united played this similar back line against Southampton with both jones and smalling in it and that cost united the game because they got eachothers way and collided which opened up for Tadic to score Southampton's winner. Countless times united has been shakey because of the back three set up, but since united moved to a back four again they look more confident and stable so i wouldnt like for them going back to three and causing the back line to shake again.

    What I'd like to see:

    De Gea
    Rafael - Smalling - Jones - Rojo
    Herrera - Blind
Januzaj - Rooney - Di Maria
    RvP

What I think we will see:

    De Gea
    Smalling - Jones - Rojo
Valencia - Rooney - Blind - Di Maria - Young
    RvP - Falcao
Surely there'll be no 3-5-2 at home to Burnley?

    ----------------de gea---------------
    Valencia---Smalling--Rojo---Young
    ------------Herrera--Blind-----------
    ----Rooney-----Mata--------Di Maria
    ----------------Falcao----------------

The interchanging of that front 4 would be insane. We need to see this happen

    ----------------de gea---------------
    Valencia---Smalling--Rojo---Young
    ------------Herrera--Blind-----------
    ----Rooney-----Mata--------Di Maria
    ----------------Falcao----------------

Thats a great team. Yet all we here is that the squad is unbalanced etc etc blah blah need more quality blah blah

Well I just assumed that he won't play Rafael because he played for the U21s last night, and previously LvG mentioned having to play 3 at the back with wingbacks because Valencia and Young aren't fullbacks.

Didn't Ashely Young play for the U21 yday? Rojo and Blind can both play LB I don't think Young will be playing.

    Valencia - Jones - Evans - Rojo

    I reckon.

    *on football manager.

Reality: more tumescent shite with players running into each other or passing backwards.

Hard to predict the formation with the RCB/LCB bullshit.

Would like to see proper 4231 with our two best CB's in CB, and our RB in RB.

    De Gea
    Rafael Jones Smalling Rojo
    Blind Herrera
    Di Maria Rooney Januzaj
    Van Persie

Having never played Football Manager, I'll take your word for it.

I think it would be a fairly fluid system with everyone in positions that play to their strengths.

    Except Rooney

But how many games have we failed to win since going away from the 3-5-2? Only West Ham, which was always going to be tough.

    my front six for

LVG will stick with his diamond (after all, we all cried for a diamond when we played 3-5-2) for this game but he will just adjust things or two.

He won’t play Rooney up top because it would mean that he was wrong, and Van Gaal knows best.

I think that he’ll include Mata as a number 10 and plays Fellaini next to Van Persie and Di Maria on the left (and Rooney right)

I would absolutely love to see this side... Can't see it happening though.

Shaw's red is a serious kick in the balls, as it affects so many other players with Carrick being out at the same time. Blind is essential in midfield so can't deputise there, Rojo is the last defender you want to move position with his recent form and playing Young would almost certainly see a return to 3-5-2.

    For me:

    DDG
    Valencia Jones Rojo Young
    Januzaj Herrera Blind Di Maria
    Falcao Rooney
