Euch. Surely anyone can see the lack of balance in that side. But you are probably right.

Think we'll win but keeping optimism to a minimum, 1-0.
Think we should go 4-2-3-1, the diamond seems ineffective and seems to limit too many players and the 5-3-2 leaves up kicking the ball around the back 5 too much and when we actually have to defend they're all confused about what they should be doing.

    Shaw suspended.

Young at LB, and Rafael or Valencia at RB and I'd go with that.

I'd probably put Smalling back in for Jones as well.
    Ahh forgot about Shaw.
And yeah, Smalling in for Jones can't hurt.

    DDG
    Rafael/Valencia/McNair - Smalling - Rojo - Young
    Blind
    Herrera - Di Maria
    Mata
    Wilson - Rooney

I think we'll go back to 5-3-2 for this and labour to victory. Expecting the dynamic duo up front again.

Based on the fact that United and Burnley have played the most long balls in the league so far, this game should be great for Fellaini. I'm expecting end to end stuff, literally. No need for any passing players, we'll bypass midfield anyway.

I bet Rooney played 1,859 of those.

Louis please catch a grip and play players where they are more useful - I'd play a more pacey side

Sorry, I know it is opinions, but you don't put an unproven striker on when we need points. If you wanted the majority of that squad then I think you would move Rooney up and put Mata in his place.

Personally, I would drop Rooney and Adnan from WHU game, though that isn't really going to happen. Rooney is not doing it in midfield for me and he isn't doing it for LVG up front.

    Would love to see

    DDG
    Valenica
    Smalling
    Rojo
    Young
    Herrera
    Blind
    Fellani
    Mata
    Falcao

    DDG

    Well, I can dream.....

I think I'd rather play an unproven but highly rated and exciting youngster over two strikers proven to have been playing pretty shit for a good while.

He will get the same shit service so the result will be the same. He hasn't shown he has anything in his locker to score a goal out of the blue.

Predicting a team is so annoying, you just know it'll be 3 strikers & a back line with 2 midfielders in it. How badly is the current squad in need of a John Oshea clone.
I'm taking it Shaw is out of this game? Or is he still available?

You've obviously not seen many reserve/youth games over the years.. James Wilson has the ability to make something out of nothing for himself, he is a willing runner and has pace to get behind the defenders.. more than we can say for the bone ideal, lazy pairing LGV seems hell bent on playing.

Well there's one thing he does offer than neither Falcao or RvP have shown any sign of and that's pace, which we lack in a big way.

Accept that, and yes I don't watch a lot of youth games. However, the PL is totally different level. He has pace, early games he made a lot of wrong decisions, a bit like Adnan. He needs to be brought in gradually until he is a constant threat, a bit like Kane at Spurs. We all saw what happened to Sterling when on his own up front, absolute disaster.

    De Gea
    Rafael Jones Smalling Rojo
    Blind
    Di Maria Fellaini
    Mata
    Rooney Wilson

Tired of Valencia's woeful crossing so either Rafael/McNair, Rojo can fill in for the suspended Shaw, Rooney back up top with the energetic, pacey Wilson. Mata back in the side.

Herrera on in 60 minutes to add to our possession and creativity.

    Optomistic thinking there.

So, we should have something like:

    Back Five

    Blind

    All the Forwards

No point in even playing a midfield.

So, we should have something like:

No point in even playing a midfield.

We don't do that anyway. We usually only play one midfielder, after all Van Gaal couldn't possibly drop a striker...

    DDG
    Jones-Smalling-Rojo
    Valencia-Herrera-Blind-Young
    Rooney-ADM
    Falcao

Don't want wing backs but with Shaw missing and Raphael out of favour, I don't think We should go with both Young & Valencia as full backs, please play Herrera, up top I have no real preference but it should be EITHER Falcao or RVP not BOTH.

I know LvG is not gonna drop the 2 up front approach but I can dream
    DDG
    McNair Smalling Rojo Young
    Herrera Blind
    Januzaj Mata di Maria
    Rooney

I bet Wayne would be fired up to play upfront again and frankly thats where he should be playing. Herrera and Blind together in midfield could be an interesting partnership I dont think we've seen them play together except for when van Gaal used a diamond. Herrera has the ability to take the ball upfront and to beat a man while Blind is more composed and can look for a killer long pass so I think they could work well together.

I echo everything Ive read thus far regards to lineup. It defo needs to be Rooney uptop, bech RVP and Falcao, play Herrera and go with wingers in Di Maria and Januzaj/Mata or whatever.

What I think we should do:

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling Jones Rojo
    Herrera Blind
    Rooney Mata Di Maria
    Wilson

    What we'll probably do:

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling Jones Rojo
    Blind
    Fellaini Rooney
    Di Maria
    van Persie Falcao

Fellaini will start for sure, LvG said he changed the game when he came on yesterday.

    De Gea
    Rafael Jones Rojo Young
    Blind Herrera
    Adnan Mata Di Maria
    Rooney

Is what I would like to see but it will be Rooney in midfield partnering Blind with Fellaini behind RvP.

    Falcao
    RVP

    Subs
    Di Maria
    Wilson
    Rooney

I take your point about experience but Wilson has been really impressive in his last couple of outings - he took his goal very well at QPR and against Cambridge

Conversely Falcao and RVP have been very poor - its clear it hasn't worked - I don't think the lack of creativity is the strikers fault but in trying to accommodate them it has been to the detriment of the team

i wouldnt play Falcao and RVP together.....

at the same time I would have Rooney at number 10 - I don't think he and Mata can play together effectively

we should pick one of Rooney/Mata at 10 and one of RVP/Falcao/Wilson at 9

Unfortunately I can see the Shaw suspension forcing LVG's hand into playing the 5-3-2 in this game. Young has actually been one of our best players so far this season from left wing-back and the diamond formation isn't exactly making us sparkle right now.

I'd LOVE IT (a la Keegan) if we played a midfield 3 of Blind, Herrera and Fellaini with Di Maria, Mata and Rooney ahead of them but that's about as likely as David Moyes taking a smidgeon of blame for last season rather than blaming all the players for eating too many chips.

    I'd go with:

    ----------RVP----------
    DiMaria--Rooney--------
    ---------------Mata---
    ----Herrera-----------
    ---------Blind--------
    Shaw------------Valencia
    -----Rojo--Smalling----
    --------De Gea--------

Burnley's LB never goes forward, so it's safe to play Mata there and hope he contributes with some good passing and link play with Valencia, Herrera, Rooney and RVP.

RVP looked sharper than Januzaj against West Ham, I thought.

Herrera should play, as we're at home and just need to outplay a side that has 8 or 9 Championship players/Lower Prem squaddies in it, along with Ings, Trippier and maybe Boyd and Heaton who should all eventually move on to bigger and better things.

We should really just outplay Burnley, not play Fellaini and get into some scrap of a game with them. Their back 8 might literally only have only offensively-oriented players good enough for the Prem, so I have no idea why we wouldn't just try to pass and move them to death. If they can hold us off by sitting deep there's always Falcao/Fellaini to bring on up front as an aerial threat and Januzaj as a winger to stretch play.

In my opinion we should play with: De Gea, McNair, Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Blind, Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, Di Maria and Rooney

Can young be trusted as an outright LB? Hope we need need to go 352. Don't really want to see Rojo or Blind there seeing as they're doing well elsewhere. Blackett maybe?

    It's Burnley ffs.

We shouldn't be worried about them at all. Young has played left back before, just play him there. Ings is the only real worry in their side.

If we concede down the right i'm holding you personally responsible. ;)

    I think we will see

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Jones Rojo
    Rooney Blind Fellaini
    Mata
    RvP Di Maria

    Subs: McNair, Wilson, Herrera
Nonetheless I hope Rooney plays in a more attacking role while Di Maria is able to roam freely, and I think that is a pretty good line-up although I like everyone else would like to see Herrera start (probably instead of RvP) but hopefully he gets to prove is worth with a sub appearance.

It has come to a point where we have so many good players that can't make the first team (Young, Januzaj, Herrera, Wilson, McNair) that Van Gaal must soon really begin to squeeze performances out of our first team.

It's not hard fielding a team of 11 good players, but it is hard to put the right 11 players, however, that is Van Gaal's job and I hope he figures it out sooner or later. I expect him to accomplish that though, and I hope we will get so see a glimpse of what we can produce next season coming into March.

    I hope could see
    De Gea
    Valencia Jones Smalling Rojo
    Blind
    Herrera Fellaini
    Di Maria
    Rooney Falcao
With Mata and Wilson coming on if Falcao doesn't play good, I just really want him to perform, and I think he has it in him somewhere.. Just imagine the delivery he would get with this team!
