Man Utd v Burnley simulation in FIFA 15
Van Gaal is tired of Falcao and Van Persies lack of form and has dropped them both.
    Therefore he's fielding this side:

    DDG
    Rafael - Smalling - Rojo - Young
    Blind
    Herrera - Di Maria
    Mata
    Wilson - Rooney

12 min - We're absolute shit. Burnley is dominating and creating chances.
17 min - Our first chance; Mata shoots the ball 893 meters high with his non-lethal right foot.
27 min - Rafael with a beautiful dive. Scott Arfield is furious as he gets booked. The free kick is wasted by Rooney
29 min - Just noted that Michael Keane is playing against us. This must surely be against the rules?
Half time - We're still absolute rubbish. Burnley with 56% possession. We only have 59% passing accuracy. Van Persie coming on for Wilson at half time.
49 min - Falcao on for Rooney. Weird substitution.
50 min - This is the worst game I've ever seen. Both teams are shite.
54 min - PENALTY TO US!! Di Maria dribbled through their defense and got down quite easily. Nevertheless the penalty has been given.
58 min - GOAL! Falcao scored on the penalty! Undeserved lead to us! On a side note, how did it take 4 mins to take the penalty? Sad time wasting by Van Gaals side.
62 min - Burnley are pressuring heavily, but are not really close to scoring. Long shots seems to be their tactic.
73 min - Fellaini on for Herrera. Predictable substitution.
76 min - Oh my god. Burnley scored. De Gea with a blooper. Real Madrid just lost interest. David Jones is the goal scorer.
80 min - Burnley keep pounding the ball up he SAF stand. There must be someone there they don't really fancy.
88 min - GOAL!! Big Felli is our saviour. Beautiful volley. RVP with a nice assist.

The game finished 2-1. In the worst PL game I've ever seen, we managed to win on a bad day even with 46% possession. Burnley would probably have got away with one or more points if it wasn't for their evil agenda against one of the spectators in the Sir Alex Ferguson stand.

    Superb!

 Give this man a medal. Brilliant stuff!

Do you think that we will have (and score) a f***** penalty this year? Liverpool and Chelsea seems to have one every game and I can’t clearly remember when was our last penalty (RVP against Olympiacos?)

4-2-3-1 with midfield and attack (obviously, this will never happen as RVP-son-of-LVG will play inevitably):

    Blind
    Herrera

    Valencia
    Rooney
    Di Maria

    Falcao

Think I'll give this match a miss. It's at 4am over here, I have work the next day and while I usually wake up for even these matches, I've seen enough shit on a stick football from us this and last season to have any motivation of waking up.

Yes not worth getting up that early!

Our last penalty was the first goal against Norwich in the 4-0 win for Giggs' first game in management.

We'll need to get into the box before that happens. Think I saw a stat that said regarding touches inside the penalty area we've got the lowest of any side in the top 6 or something. We don't create chances all that much so can't really complain. It's not as if we've been shafted by numerous refereeing decisions in that regard.

Playing Burnley at home should be a standard 3 points. No excuses. Even with us more vulnerable than historically, Old Trafford hasn't been somewhere you get many points this season especially if you are 19th in the table. No excuses to be made there.

Van Gaal has come out and said Rooney still has a future as a striker, good to see he's still giving himself an out, which means he's not utterly sold on this Rooney in midfield stuff. With his earlier comments, he's got to bring Herrera back in from the cold even just to justify leaving him out in future. Doesn't get much safer than Burnley.

If Westham put a decent performance like they played us against Southampton we can move to third again tonight with a big push just get the job done with any likes of plans or performance we cant screw things tonight we just cant.

Thats because we seldom have a player running into the oppositions box!

I think our team is pretty much nailed on apart from 2 positions:

    ----------De Gea-------------

Valencia --Jones -- Smalling -- Rojo

    -----------Blind------------------

    Rooney-------------Januzaj/Mata

    -----------Di Maria-------------

    -------RVP-------Falcao/Wilson

Would love to see Rafael or Herrera in there. Perfect match for the former in particular to play his way back into form

    DE GEA
    RAFAEL - SMALLING - JONES - ROJO

    BLIND
JANUZAJ - HERRERA - MATA - DI MARIA
    ROONEY

Normally I'd play 4-2-3-1 with the palyers we have but against such opponent we can convert to 4-1-4-1 or let's say 4-3-3 as its only slightly different.

Based on the rotation of last weeks I expect Van Persie to be on the bench. We need fresh legs. Mata will play #10, Rooney as a proper attacker. Falcao needs a goal more than anyone else, and Burnley at home is a great match for that, so I don't think Wilson gets a start, but it could be. Herrera will play from the start. Rafael will start. Ashley Young will be back.

Wonder how many points I'll score in the line-up prediction.

I like that team. But one possible change I'd make is Rooney up top instead of Van Persie, and Mata in for where Rooney is. I think Rooney would relish a run of games up front now.

Edit: Smalling centre half, and Rojo over to left full.

ah yes, of course. Would like to see a simple 4-4-1-1 again.

Yea, Young in for the suspended Shaw and Mata in behind Rooney and that team is ideal.

    De Gea
    Rafael Jones Rojo Blind
    Fellaini Herrera
    Januzaj Mata di Maria
    Rooney
this idea would maintain a CB partnership for another game, something we were forced to break up too often in the past due to injury. So using Blind as LB does make sense from that point of view. Fella and Herrera could be too adventurous but against Burnley that must be enough defensive cover if they stay disciplined.

Didnt Young just play 60mins for the u21s barely a day ago as part of his rehab?

    I think it'll be:

    DDG
    Valencia - Jones - Evans - Rojo
    Blind
    Rooney - Di Maria
    Mata
    Van Persie - Falcao

    Subs: Fellaini, Januzaj and Herrera.

Tonight i hope we see free flowing attacking football from United.
We should crush Burnley and attack them from the 1st second.
    Hope to see Rooney upfront

    Prediction 3-0

Can't fathom how people still beleive its the formation that's causing us problems.

Hoping for an end to the Falco/RVP twosome up top. Whatever we do up front, it cant be that again, its so obviously not working. Hopefully neither will start, although that is probably a bit much to ask.
The side needs freshening up. Hopefully Herrera and Mata come in.

That we are playing with zero tempo and that off the ball movement is poor. No?

Yes but it's due to something normally. Due to the coach who doesn't delivers the proper message

Or the players, unable to do what the managers likes.

And the formation can be the cause of the low tempo etc

I would like to have you though on that

Formation doesn't stop you playing with tempo, its just the easy fix every here seems to crave. A month ago 3-5-2 was all things evil and a quick change to the midfield diamond and we would be bad ass again. Evidently that's not been the case and now 4-3-3 is our saviour.

I went for that with Wilson instead of Falcao and McNair instead of Valencia. Can't decide if I should change either of those, but I get the feeling LVG will play someone unexpected today...

Because people don't like change I guess. I swear I remember Fergie trying out 4231 back in the day (when it was a "continental" formation and all English teams played 442), and everyone kept complaining about it. The formation is a superficial thing that people latch on to instead of working out the things that are actually going wrong. In our case, it's definitely that we're passing too slowly and playing it a bit too safe. Whether that's because players are still uncomfortable having to think about where they pass or not, we have no idea.

I'm mulling over that one too. Is Falcao capable of Sun-Wed? I reckon he'll get an hour and Wilson will be used for impact/tired legs later on.

I agree with you, so you're saying that the players can't play in 3-5-2 or diamond ? Or that they're not made to play this way ?

I'll give you something, I don't think that the formation is not good. Pool played in diamond last year and were flying so this formation is suited to the PL.

My guess is that we are playing the wrong players at the wrong position, and our squad in clearly unbalanced to play 4-3-3 (don't have wingers and too many N°9), 4-2-3-1 (not exploiting correctly Di Maria our best player and we're missing two N°6) or even 3-5-2 (missing quality at the back to give good balls meaning we're too slow)

Anyway, I think that we have to be more pragmatic, we have players (almost) to play 4-2-3-1 with less loss in quality and making the choice between RVP or Falcao and Roo or Mata

I think formation can play a role in tempo. Part of being able to play the ball quickly is intuitively knowing where people are. If players aren't sure when teammates are it makes one-touch football hard to do. That's not to say that any given formation is objectively better in that regard. The 'best' formation is the one that the players are most comfortable in.

As for 4-3-3 - we could play it, but like every other formation, we end up with square pegs in round holes, or we end up playing players like Young or Valencia and leaving the likes of Mata or Falcao on the bench. Its no panacea.

Yeah exactly, either way I doubt he'll play the full game. Next game is Preston so obviously not as difficult a game as this, which makes it even harder to work out...
