Shame half of them are injured but United could of lined up!

    Shaw - Maguire - Lindelof - AWB

That would have sent shockwaves around Europe haha.

United stuck in a fecking time loop.

Are we obliged to play our best 11 possible in this fixture or could we send the kids? I'm sure reds wouldn't mind throwing it to give the players an extra week to get injured in training.

    Play the kids

    Fulham is much more important
And instruct them to play rough, like all those Copa America games. If City are destined to win this, I want them to feel the pain on their bodies that matches the pain we feel in our hearts.

It’ll be idiotic to go all out to win this.

I think Citeh will be more desperate to win anyway since we showed them who’s the better manchester side in the FA cup final.

So I say play the kids. It’s the best test for them. Better than any friendlies and even age group games

So how do people in the UK value the Community Shield in general?

Is it like NL where its a glorified friendly who no one is actally interested in, none of the two clubs (fanbases) actually cares about the prize, but you just hope to see a good performance with promising signs for the start of the season, but without taking any unnessecary risks with players injuries and fitness?

As soon as we get hammered by 4 goals hopefully it would push the club to get players in.

United, at Wembley. The sun is shining. Football is back. The new season starts. Last season is forgotten. Ten Hag was dead, but long live Ten Hag.

Rashford is back on his antidepressants and scores twice. Assisted by Sancho who suddenly posted that Ten Hag and him are new PSN-friends. At the back Casimero is running like a 20 year old with massive amounts of injected testosterone running through his jacked Brazilian body. Martinez accidentally put his boot on Halands foot and the Norwegian does a meme-face and is carried off. Mainoo shines and Fernandez whines.

Ten Hag chews away on his gum, RvN smiles and Rathcliff is bathing in the sun and smiles, simultaneously thinking about the next layoff plan to execute when everyone once again is on the United hype train!

Glory glory Man United! The club that never bores you

Oh and we win, two to nill.

Sure we are hit by injuries, and won't take any risk with any of them. Maguire/Lindelof and AWB can leave so we shouldn't take any risk.

For the rest, we should play a big part of the players being present on the tour, at least 60 mins, and play the other one for the rest of the game.

    Dalot----------------------------Evans----------------Martinez-----------------------Amass
    ------------------------------------Mc Tominay-------Casemiro--------------------------------

What?! Why would it? We don’t play for 6 days and we are still getting up to speed.

The best way to get into winning habits is to win (not to mention we normally play a big friendly before the start of the season).

Absolutely need to treat this like any other competitive game, want to see a disciplined performance restricting city. With Garnacho capitalising on a mistake a Mainoo scoring one of the great FA cup final goals.

It's not really that important, just a glorified friendly. Obviously it'll suck if we lose but people aren't gonna lose sleep over it. Man City have lost it in the last 3 years in a row and they don't seem to care.

Same for NL then.. You just hope to see some positives going into the season..

so the back 4 plays 90 minutes?

So much doom and gloom. If we end the window with Yoro, De Ligt and Mazraoui as our defensive reinforcements it will be a good window from a defensive perspective. Yoro getting injured this early is unlucky. but that's life. The most important thing is to not rush Martinez or Shaw back just for this game as they are our most important defenders. If that means playing Casemiro, Evans and Amas at the back for this game and getting spanked, whilst giving a few minutes to the returning players then it is what it is.

Whats most important is that on the first day of the season we have as many of our first 11, and most importantly Martinez, Shaw and Dalot up to speed or near up to speed. The same for Mainoo, Bruno, Zirkzee and Garnacho. Hopefully we continue with the impressive pressing performance from pre-season. Most likely with such a bad defence we will concede some goals but that won't be a signal that the season is a lost cause. I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

It only becomes relevant if you win it. Otherwise just another friendly game.

Mount will be a star this season for us and he is going to dominate this match for a start.

Like you I am hoping that he will have a highly productive season after the absolute disaster last season
But whether he is capable of dominating, not sure about that.

    Or were you joking

The transfer window doesn't close until August 30th
Yes but the season starts on Friday 16th a week today, surely we need to get signing done this week so they can at least have some training with their new team mates before our game against Fulham.
Alas we will probably not see any one coming in, we are worse off at centre back and I am not convinced about our forwards either.
I’m suffering from a bit of Deja vu.

Just because they can doesn't mean they will. They're impossible to shift because we pay them stupid amounts.

Squad is in a pretty grim state for the start of the season tbh.

Not sure why you needed to bump my post from Sunday, especially since my point still stands. We still have 3 weeks to buy and sell players, anything can happen.

Sure, it would be great to get everyone in weeks before the first game so they can all settle in, but it just doesn't work like that sometimes. This year in particular a lot of moves will happen later at every club. They're all playing chicken with each other, waiting to see who blinks first. It's why you can't really judge how the season might go until we're approaching October.

If we could have sold AWB, McT and Casemiro weeks ago then we would have more players in by now, but they either didn't want to leave or nobody wanted them. Not much can be done about that.

You're not suffering from deja vu, you just expected too much and reality has left you disappointed. If that's a common occurrence then you need to look at how you set your expectations.

I also don't think we're worse off at CB than last season. I don't think we're much better overall, but I don't think we're worse. Martinez was a huge miss last year, and he should hopefully be available for this one, which would dramatically improve how we play. Varane will be missed but he was unreliable. Yoro getting injured is just bad luck, but he should come good when he's back.

You are correct I expected quite a bit considering all the hype about our new board of directors, maybe as you say too much.
Let’s hope ETH can just get a good tune going from day one I just want to see United playing entertaining football again which obviously means more goals, preferably in the opponents net not ours.:)

I think we all hope that, pal.

And I think the new directors will improve things, but we probably won't see that really bear fruit until next summer. You have to remember that Ashworth and Berrada didn't start until July, the recruitment guy (Vivell I think?) came in after them. I think they've actually done well to get Yoro and Zirkzee in, as there was plenty of competition for this signatures, and they tried their best to move guys on.

SJR and INEOS said it would be 3 years until we were challenging, probably because they've seen the state of the clubs finances and the contracts these guys are on. I know people don't want to believe that, but they're not saying it for no reason.

There are things to be optimistic about though. Like, there is actually movement on a new stadium! We'll have a proper transfer strategy next summer, more contracts will expire anyway too. Can you imagine where we'd be right now if Woodward was still running the show and the Glazers were still burning money like it grows on trees?! Doesn't bear thinking about.

It's a glorified friendly, and I'm not sure it even qualifies as 'glorified'. The winner is forgotten within a couple weeks. The trophy is never counted when trophy counts are mentioned. I wouldn't have a clue how many Community Shields United have won, or how many SAF won, or what the win percentage is, for example. The only result I can remember is when we came from 2-0 down to beat Man City 3-0. I think Hernandez scored his first goal for us in a Community Shield by scuffing the ball into his face and it rebounding in, but I couldn't tell you who it was against or what the score was. I think Moyes won it in his season but I don't remember the game, I just remember him defending himself by saying he had won the Community Shield, and getting mocked for it.

It's even less important following an international tournament, as often first team players are nowhere near match fit.

It's usually contested between rivals so there's very small amounts of pride and bragging rights at stake.

I hope this doesn't become a recurring theme. Giggs and Owen are all you need to know about hamstrings.
Giggs played 632 Premier League games. Not sure his name belongs in the point you are trying to make.

Last season both teams started very strong elevens however, but now I read that City will not have many of their best players available.

He had to change his game due to severe hamstring issues though and never sprinted at full speed in the last decade of his career.

Most other players don't have the footballing iq he had to pull that off.

His were so bad at one point, he even tried playing in black tights.

Haha no. I said the same thing about Nani quite a while ago and it worked. The thread also became a classic. I think Mount has what it takes. Just needs a good run with no injuries.
