Presumably there was a reason Amass didnt even make the bench and why Evans played tbf, it would have been great to see him get a run out though i agree.
I guess it's been decided he's not ready for the first team just yet. Maybe we'll revisit the idea after a few months in the U21s, or perhaps we'll sort a loan for him.

Ten Hag seems a lot higher on Collyer. I guess he just seems more physically ready to compete at senior level.

Doesn't matter for me, he could have been MOTM and won the tinpot cup that my question would still be the same. There ain't a way he should be a the club still

Why do you care who the 5th / 6th CB in the squad is? He came on a free, not huge wages but is still putting in PL quality performances. I'm glad we have him.

Really bright performance by a lot of the players, however let’s not pretend that we didn’t play City ‘B’ team today and we should take that into consideration.

    Defence
We need 2/3 more in and we need to sort out injuries out, Johnny Evan’s Is a soldier to the end but if he plays more than 10-12 matches this year we will not have progressed very far. Facundo Pellistri is not a Right back and for his own career needs to find a club where we can maybe insert a sell on or buy back clause.

    Midfield
Casemiro was a mixed bag today, some good, some bad and Some downright ugly, Mainoo will have much better days, Mount and Bruno worked hard, Collyer didn’t look out of place and Scott did what Scott did but should have scored. We definitely need a couple of new midfielders in, just to replace Eriksen and Casemiro and we need more goals and assists from midfield this season.

    Attack
Can’t help feeling that with Rashford, Amad, Antony, Sancho and Garnaucho fighting for two spots, we are going to hear about unhappy players again, we need to get rid of one of Sancho or Antony and go replace the player with an experienced CF like Ivan Toney.

Playing Mount, Sancho, Mctominey or Bruno as false 9 won’t work and we’ll continue to score 0 or 1 goals in a game when we need 2 or 3 to win that game, It’s not just goals it’s having a proper number 9 threat that can drop deep, make near post runs, play players in and keep the ball when the team needs to get up the pitch.

    ETH
He still hasn’t learnt how to shut out a game when he’s wining and this is something I’m hopping his backroom staff start to emphasise to him, sometimes wining 1-0 ugly is better than wining by 3 or 4!

    Summary
We should hope for 3 or 4 new players still to come in and 3/4 to go out. Young players like Toby Collyer, Harry Amass and others should be used if there good enough but I’d certainly start to use them in the Europa League this season first before they are thrown into PL matches.

Thought we played pretty well considering who was missing and some square pegs in round holes.

After a dodgy 20/25mins we started knocking the ball about and some nice patterns of play emerged and creating plenty of chances. Should have won with the chances we had but pleased with the performance and it was nice to see a game that wasn't so chaotic and conceding 25 shots.

There's much to take from today's performance. We grew into the game, it was like the Cup Final in many ways.. first 20 I was concerned, we couldn't get the ball.. but City ran out of ideas, and our forwards started to have an impact. Amad made a clear difference and big statement. He changed the way we played, his confidence, composure, spontaneity and constant danger, helped the whole team. Dalot, Casimero, Bruno.. all of their games were positively influenced by him. Amad was key for getting us a foothold in this game, he played v v well.

Bruno got better, highlighting City's midfield immaturity.. Evans and Maguire managed an isolated Haaland. City were pretty shabby, and Garnacho's arrival just showed our superiority (in this game). But, when you can bring on KDB, Silva.. and that Savinho looked v tidy, it can always have an impact.

But a very good run out.A few questions: Can they take that form into the season? Can we afford to play like this every game..? Because I just don't see many goals in this system, because it is very specfic. That worries me. Rashford brings an element of experience, but I would play him as No 9, and tell him to get on with it. Garnacho, Amad.. they give good energy, very positive, but are still v young so we manage their expectations.

Not sure whether Mount can play in same starting XI as Bruno, just cannot see it. And you have Zirkzee to fit in.

Mainoo, Casimero and SMT is also a bit of a concern.. they will play against better, more experienced, powerful players and I don't know whether we will be able to cope, similar to last season.

Good summary. We had the better chances and should have won it with better finishing. Still need to tighten that midfield though - and learn to hit the target at least.

Not a fan of the sponsor logo on the back of the kits. Apparently Copilot+ isn't even a sponsor, but Snapdragon has a deal where they can nominate a partner to appear there (?). At least it will only be in FA Cup & Carabao Cup and not league. Snapdragon will also place a charity's name on the front of the kit for one game per season, wonder what they will pick? https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5687303/2024/08/09/manchester-united-sponsor-shirt-snapdragon/
