Like, this is your JOB, you're being paid an insane amount of money to do it...to hell with your vacation, you need to be here and available for selection for the opening match.
    Hi Roy! :nervous:

It doesn’t matter how much they are paid, these are still human beings you are talking about and there is only so much stress and wear a body will tolerate, not to mention the mental load from a season in the spotlight like last season. Are you suggesting we burn through players like they are a disposable commodity?!

I realize that the Euros/Copa screwed things up, but it's still a bit ridiculous that a professional club can begin a new season with key players not ready to be available because they're either still on holiday or have just returned to training a few weeks ahead of the season.

One of the worst posts I've seen on here in quite a while, well done that is very difficult.

This a glorified friendly. With the extreme workload these players are put through, rest and holiday is more important than ever.

I’d be starting as strong as possible then making subs if required.

    Onana
    Dalot - Maguire - Martinez - Shaw
    Mainoo - Casemiro
    Bruno - Mount - Rashford
    Zirkzee

    Rashford Bruno Amad
    Mount Casemiro McTominay
    Amass Lindelof Maguire Wan Bissaka
    Onana

Realistically speaking how likely are we to start anybody other than Bruno who hasn't been part of pre season yet?

Very likely I’d say. That is the whole point of pre-season. The players who have been training obviously need to play matches, there would be no sense in having them skip matches when they need them to prepare for the season.

This is essentially a pre-season game, we want as many of the squad up to speed as possible by Fulham.

Good question. However, I don't think he'll go with Amass, who - despite all the praise - most of all has shown that he's not quite ready yet. In my opinion, anyway. So, the question is who is currently the fitter, Shaw or Dalot. If Bruno can play, so can Dalot, although, he might go with Sancho instead.

City tend to not take this match seriously at all. They’ve only won 3 out of 8 finals.

Guardiola takes this as seriously as Ferguson did, so United winning is possible.

If we do, I’m sure there will be some ETH zealots on social media counting it as a third major trophy in three seasons and how you’re mentally deranged if you don’t think he’s the bees knees.

Players on tour will probably start.

    Onana
    AWB Lindelöf Maguire Amass
    Casemiro Collyer
    Amad Mount Rashford
    Sancho

Returnees to come on as subs.

It’s going to be a shocking first 11 isn’t it, with injuries and players still on holiday I can see it being this which is a depressing looking team.

    …………………..Onana
    Dalot..Lindelof…Maguire..Amass
    …………Casemiro..Mount
    …..…Amad..Bruno…Rashford
    …………………Sancho

    Bench
    Martinez
    AWB
    Shaw
    Mainoo
    McTominay
    Garnacho
    Antony
    Zirkzee

Players coming back from holidays need some minutes cause we can’t afford to let them ease their way in.

One day soon we might be able to pick our best 11 again.

Unfortunately don’t see us winning this one. Too many key players just getting back into training and we need to be at our best against City. Hopefully some players get some minutes and we can get off to a decent start once the season gets rolling.

Are we playing a game behind closed doors before this?
So we can moan after we inevitably get more players injured?

Hope we don't involve in that, let them train hard and have a good rest before the game.

Re-watched the cup final again last week. Between that and the stats posted in the OP I feel a bit more optimistic.

    ............Onana..........
    Dalot.Maguire.Martinez.Shaw
    .......Casemiro.Mainoo..............
    ................Bruno...................
    Garnacho......................Sancho
    .................Rashford..................

    Subs: Mount, McT, Zirkzee

    We lose 0-3

It’s not even 1% the players fault. It’s the sporting competitions.

Let's just look organised and energised for a new season, whoever is picked.

They need time off to rest. It's a very long season.

What a ridiculously stupid post  so the players are never allowed any time off?!

Perhaps that’s why we should play him in a pre-season game like this - to improve his fitness.
Yeh I think there are alot of posters on here that don't realise that this is a pre season friendly as well.

Expect a similar lineup/approach to the final - especially given Hojlund is out.

    Onana

    AWB
    Maguire
    Lindelof
    Amass

    Casemiro
    Mount
    McTominay

    Amad
    Bruno
    Rashford

I'm assuming the English/Argentine lads won't be thrown straight in. Zirkzee, Garnacho, Mainoo and Martinez all off the bench.

It's a final so anything can happen.
Taking pre season form into account and the revenge aspect for the FA Cup Final I can see it being a 3-0 loss.

But I'm optimistic we can get something so maybe a scrappy 1-0 for us.

    Our back line though....

Never have liked the charity shield, feels like a punishment for winning one of the big two domestics. But I suppose it does serve as a sort midway warm-up match between preseason friendlies and match day one.
