I was watching the sky sports show on youtube and they were debating whether Pep is the greatest ever coach. It left a bitter taste in my mouth. Our team absolutely needs to put in a performance on Sunday. If Jose is this master of defense, he absolutely needs to show it.

Fantastic coach, but hasn’t achieved anything he shouldn’t have.

Fantastic coach, but hasn’t achieved anything he shouldn’t have.

I think the only knock on him is that he hasn't won the champions league without Barcelona and even that's a reach. He has dominated the league everywhere he has gone and I would take that any day of the week. And let's face it, with the Sheikh's unlimited money, he is bound to win the champions league sometime down the road.

I was hoping when we got Mourinho that he would eventually wear down Pep so much that he would take a sabbatical in NY again and feck off elsewhere. So, far it looks like Mourinho would walk before him.

And when someone brings up the money argument, commentators automatically shut them down saying that we have spent 'only' a 100 million less than city and our playing style is shite. I hate it because it is so true.

Chelsea and Liverpool fans cheering us on

    Let’s lose :D

I would love to have a 'Crystanbul' situation for 'pool all over again. Was the only happy memory of that disastrous 13-14 season. Loved seeing that cnut Suarez cry.

in a 38 game season a game in November isn't really is it - particularly when you are away to the best team in the league, better in almost every position, in superb form with revenge on their mind after last year

a draw would be very acceptable
You remember last season after City opened an 8 point gap we knew the title race was over as early as October/November. That was even before we saw what they did to the league the rest of the way. This is a must win for those that want us in the title race (not me as i think it's long gone) and even for top 4

I'd say you'd find it hard to find anyone who thinks we're still in with a shout of a title challenge

yes I think if we go toe to toe we will struggle badly as they are better technically, our movement still leaves a lot to be desired and we will try and kill the game, restricting them and try and pick them off

wouldn't be surprised to see Fellaini play a part in this
Ya I can see him starting with Matic and Pogba

He’s guaranteed to win it with city. Probably this year. The problems that other clubs face over a season are largely irrelevant to city. While it would be a good achievement, whether it’s this year or next, it’s just to be expected. Let’s say they win the premier league this year and nothing else. It will be seen by many as underwhelming. Basically making the premier league the bundesliga.

I'd say you'd find it hard to find anyone who thinks we're still in with a shout of a title challenge
I'd say they aren't that hard to find. That aside we also need points to keep up with the top 4 race. We don't have the luxury of dropping too many points

I think a win on Sunday would change that. It’s seem very far fetched now but a win at city on Sunday and well be right in the mix.

    true

a big if given our inconsistency and poor general form

we could have easily lost to Newcastle if that referee had given that penalty to make it 3 nil. We could have easily lost to Bournemouth and Juve had they not been so wasteful. I just don't think we have a really solid performance in us at the minute and teams will always have chances against us

we'd need Dalot to come in and do well, Matic to play out of his skin and our CBs to really develop and understanding (maybe all the chopping and changing of CBs is part of the issue)

There's your problem right there, you're listening to commentators who just a few weeks ago quoted Fred as our £67m new signing (when he came for £53m).

Since 16/17 United have spent 430m euros

    City have spent 600m euros

    Liverpool have spent 430m euros

    Chelsea have spent 540m euros

This idea that United's spending means they should challenge City is nonsensical. City are in a league of their own. If anything our financial challengers are Chelsea and now Liverpool who have decided to splash the cash.

United, Chelsea and Liverpool have to balance selling and buying, they have to balance the books. City do not and can simply cook the books.

I think we should be a solid top 4 team based on our spending. This isn't the bundesliga or Ligue 1 where only 1 rich team exists. The PL has 2 oil clubs and 2 footballing giants in terms of United and Liverpool.

yeah there’s still many questions but wins away juve and city would be our best week in 5 years

My goodness, why are we priced at 8.5 to win? City priced at just 1.30. Are we really that bad? I've never seen this kind of odds for United against City, even under Moyes. I can't imagine this kind of odds for Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal. We are on a good form and our squad is still greater than the sum of its part. We also have a big game mentality, the lads seem to be up for the big games and we have a good record at the Emptihad. Our past 3 visits - beating City 3-2, drawing 0-0 and winning 1-0.

That's all well and good, but it's not like 430 million euros is peanuts either.

It's just that when Mourinho became the manager, even though we all knew he was short term, I thought he would create a seige mentality (like at Real or Inter) and motivate players to 'run through brick walls for him' (did eto say this?) He however has created a toxic atmosphere between the fans(Mou in-Mou out,Martial FC etc). And the players we have bought for big bucks (75 million striker, 105 million midfielder) have not performed consistently at an elite level either( well, pogba has started to turn it around this season, I just hope lukaku sits on the bench for the derby so that they don't get any assists) . It's just a giant clusterfeck at the moment.

Or maybe I am just rambling and subconsciously, always thinking about how Sir Alex would have done with the money that we have thrown to stop the rot. At least, the next generation of our fans wouldn't have this problem and maybe their thinking might be more rational.

Of course 430m isn't peanuts, but that is all irrelevant really since Arsenal spent 50m this last season which is a lot of money for normal people. In the end what is important is your spending in relation to other clubs.

City are close to monopolising this league and probably should have done it already if it were not for their bad managerial appointments. They've finally got a world class manager in and are reaping the benefits of their £1bn in investment.

I can say confidently that SAF would not have won the league against this City team so far, they are just too efficient at beating lower level opposition, they almost never drop points.

However, if we built a super team for SAF then we would definitely be able to match this City team. SAF never was able to get get close to 100 points with average players like Kleverley and Evans. But if we got in some top top players for him he'd do it.

Lose and we will be 12 points away from City, that's more than where we were when we lost to them last season at home right?

If we can win, it really gives us a great chance to secure top 4. That is our priority at the moment. I'm just worried with the way we start matches we can easily get picked off for a couple games soon. If that happens I can't see City letting in much after.

Either way I dunno but I predicted 3-1 City.

I just hope we wont concede first again. Sit deep and hit them on the counter. Dont allow them too much time on the ball though. I love comebacks but at one point they stop.

Need to shut Silva and fernandinho infuence down, otherwise sitting back entire time aint gonna help for long.

I dont mean sit deep all the time, I'd rather if we go toe to toe but not completely so we dont open ourselves too much.

They don't care, they want United to struggle. Somehow I think our team is gelling and we are going to put a solid defensive performance with moments of fast attack, essentially moving the ball fast.

City are around 1.4 to win, which is about a 70% chance which sounds about right. They were only 1.64 away at Spurs. Unfortunately they are that much better than us and the rest.

The Guardian wrote an article on how united become second in the city and Manchester's underdogs.

I fear the worst. They are that much better than us that this could easily be 4 or 5. Let’s face it, Bournemouth should have been out of sight last week and I really don’t see City letting us off the hook like they did last year. Thank God DeBruyne is out, otherwise we could have another humiliation on our hands. The only thing that gives me some hope is that Jose knows how to set a team up to avoid a slaughter, but City are a very different proposition to anything we’ve faced so far this season. Let’s hope they have an off day.

We beat the favourites for the champions league midweek, in their backyard. I know we’ve been so so but have a bit more confidence than this man !
