The optimism in here is astounding.

We're due something at Goodison, they haven't been playing very well so far, we'll be trying to react well to the Arsenal result.

    2-0 to Utd.

Wow, I've never witnessed such a defeatist attitude on here yet. Although your record there is abysmal, Everton hardly looked like world beaters in their last game, which was arguably the most important in their whole season. I'm sure LvG will have learned from his mistakes at Goodison last year, and your players have had a long break from club football since the Arsenal defeat. A win for United here certainly isn't beyond the realm of possibilities.
Its not that we have been beaten at Goodison in the last few years that is the problem, its how we have been beaten..we get to torn to shreds there over the last few years. Surely you Liverpool fans would know that the Everton that you guys face doesnt play like that against anyone else. They almost give up before facing you .

We also thought LVG had learnt his lesson against Swansea after the double last season, turns out we didn't. We also have a poor away record, and you can see why we are so apprehensive. Ill take a draw, and target a win next week instead.

Based on what though? Everton couldnt buy a win against us for years. They have turned the corner against us. Our away form is not very good. The only two away games that we played well last season where Pool and maybe Spurs. Everton will be up for this, and it will be an emotionally charged atmosphere. Even under Fergie especially near the end Goodison was a terrible place to visit. I vividly remember then coming back from 2 goals down in the 90th minute against us.

Without meaning to make light of the HK news, we may as well not watch this one now. Everton never need an excuse to raise their game against us anyway... send them out in this afternoon's atmosphere and they'll destroy us.

can I just add, is it safe to assume Rojo is not going to feature properly for us again and will be sold either January or next summer?. Shame but if he has acted a douchebag then good riddance.

Based on everything you say in the rest of this post, and a good dose of hopeful optimism. Our record there recently is terrible, the players will know that better than anyone and it should provide extra motivation, particularly on the back of the Arsenal result and with City next up.

The sad situation with HK's passing could work against them as much as for them. Look at our own performances/results when OT has been 'emotionally charged'.

I think Lukaku is the key really, if our CB's can keep him quiet then we have an excellent chance.

    What did he do?
well it started with a bust up in the summer when he allowed his passport to expire meaning he missed a flight out to pre season. Or that was what the club said. He probably got the arsehole that Di Maria left and there was a barny between him and Van Gaal. Either way, he hasnt featured since. Looks like his days are numbered.

He also had an injury and didn't tell the club which resulted in him being out for longer. Think it was said that he's fit to play today but not fit enough to play full game.

I feel the same way about Goodison as I used to about the Riverside, its just become a place where we tend to struggle. I get what you are saying about the emotion (Our Benjani moment in 2008), I certainly hope so. Didnt give them much chance on their last trip to Meseryside and they played well, so lets hope your optimism is rewarded.

wow thats stupid. Didnt tell them he was injured?. Didnt know that. Its not looking good for his career here then sadly.

What the shit? How is Everton vs United a Saturday 3pm kick off? It's always a televised game! Now I've got to find a horrible stream. Bah. I had it in my head it was the Saturday evening game.

Apart from Spurs/Liverpool, the selection of games on telly is pisspoor this weekend.

Yeah, it was the game after Shaw was injured. Rojo started for us and was subbed off, but van Gaal was furious as Rojo had a hamstring injury but didn't say so it was made worse by playing. If he had said about his injury, we could have easily played Young or Darmian at leftback instead that game.

We need to start the game properly. Though the Arsenal game was weeks ago, I think it's a result long coming. We were fighting for top spot and to play like that is stupid. Everton were crap against Liverpool - I would imagine we'll have a harder game.

    Herrera starts

    De Gea
    Darmian, Smalling, Jones, Rojo
    Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger
    Mata, Rooney, Herrera,
    Martial

Hmm, I hope it's true. That's a very decent team though I'd put Rooney on the left and Herrera in behind.

Very surprised that there's no Blind though.

Martial out left, Rooney up top, Herrera as 10? Makes more sense than Rooney out left given Martial's performances for France and ability to go past players which Rooney just can't do any more.

If that lineup is true, it looks more as if we're going with 4-3-3 with Rooney on the left than the 4-2-3-1 we've been playing. That's what I'm hoping anyways

Rooney isnt a 9..we;ve seen that this season. From Lvg's comments yesterday, he too has given up on that.
I know, but he's shit on the wing. It's not like he's 24 any more and supporting Ronaldo from wide, he's 29 (or 30?) and has lost a feck load of pace, completely unable to beat players.

That proposed lineup seems like a shake up to our original team selection. Having no natural wide players or efficient maurading fullback will make us weak will attacking in the wide areas.
