Its abit of a myth that every player has to be rapid to make a fast team. If we just surround him with pacey players that are fast across the ground but more importantly fast in the mind then there's no reason we cant bring the absolute best out of Ibra. I have no doubt that his technical game and physicality will allow him to have a big impact on the prem so long as the rest of the team is also well equipped.

The idea of Martial, Rashford, maybe Griezmann and even Memphis running on to those flying backheel round the corner passess Zlatan is inclined to perform is making me giggle uncontrollably.

Will he land up slowing down our attack like rooney?

It's pivotal that we get high-energy midfielders who will run behind Zlatan. If not, it could all be too static. He keeps the ball perfectly, has a great vision but he won't be running into space too much especially given his lack of speed. PSG were lethal with Di Maria and Matuidi running beyond him while he drew defenders. I am not sure we have that sort of players in our team, maybe Herrera but that's not enough.

He did say that it could happen if your name was really Ibrahimovic, he asked for ID in that case.

I'm assuming it's because of image rights or some such bollocks.
I'm now wondering what would happen if hypothetically I was purchasing for a friend as a surprise gift and wanted his name printed. Would the request also be rejected?

I think it's because they don't want to sell any until a shirt number is confirmed otherwise people will be trying to return them if theirs doesn't match.

Actually a point I didn't consider, the one thing in his career he's probably slightly mad about what Pep did to him, that'll be a very interesting story dynamic.

"Slightly mad about?" That's an understatement.

Posts like this confuse me, every single one of the best players is occasionally crap in the big games, that's the point of big games, they are tougher & you can't shine in every single one.

This guy turned it on in huge Italien derbies, the El Classico and tonnes of times for Sweden and PSG too. No-one (except maybe Inesta) shows up in the big games 100% of the time.

I'm not basing this off one game to be clear. Almost every time I've seen him play in the CL he's underwhelmed, always found him to be rather overrated when he was at Juve too (didn't watch him for Inter or AC much). Hope I'm wrong of course.

I don't even think the fact he's a complete knob has made me particularly bias.

What risk? It's a free transfer. The outlay from his merchandise sales alone will be more than enough to meet his wages. No risk involve.

I'm not talking cash here - if you get a player his age it is always a risk.

It is pathetic. If you're paying for it you should be allowed to have whatever name you want printed on your shirt.

Er, yeah. I was more concerned with the fact that some halfwit has jetted all the way in from Sweden to go to the megastore and buy a top while wearing a secret camera!

I actually agree with you, though.

He is 34 years old; He doesn't use pace and is in peak condition, this makes decline easier.
He has a big ego like Mourinho; Yes but he and Mourinho have a big respect for each other.
Is he just after a final 'good' pay packet?; He got some crazy offer of £22m+ a year in China which we won't match.
Is he also wanting to win a League in another country?; Who wouldn't?
Can he still deliver at a top level? I think we could possible win the league with him if we reinforce or midfield.

Great!

I hope that this will, therefore be a win-win situation.

Oh, I assumed that he was just a day tripper? If he has travelled all that way just to do that then :wenger::wenger:. Some people have more money than sense.

We'd get him on a free so it's hard to make an argument for not signing him in that respect.

That said, the number of ageing superstar players we've signed of late who've offered little or nothing on the pitch makes me wary of what impact he'd make. You could argue the likes of Falcao for example were actually counter productive as they just got in the way of better, younger players...and there's no way Zlatan comes to United to sit on the bench and play a bit part.

So basically unless he's still good enough to do the business near enough every single week, there's a fair chance signing him might not work out so well. I don't watch enough French football to know how he's been performing. The only player we have of similar age though is Carrick, and he is basically bit part and also seems to perform about one in every four or five games at best.

The last thing I want is yet another season shoe horning in players based on their name or past reputation. It's scuppered us constantly since Ferguson left, and even to a degree arguably before he did.

Difference with this guy and say Falcao or RvP is that he isn't injury prone. He is a very fit man and for free he will be a great asset to us.

Considering Ibrahimovic scored more goals alone (in all comps) then we as a team did in the league last season... I'm pretty confident it'll work out. At the very least he will help Rashford and Martial develop and they can feed off of him as he has terrific hold up play and is creative and talented on the ball so can feed them chances. With the other aging superstars, there were obvious risks with them... Schweinsteiger had 2 very injury hit seasons before us so him keeping that going wasn't entirely a surprise. Falcao didn't play for about a year before we signed him because of his torn ACL, so again, huge risk considering the age at which he got a big injury and that he was very reliant on his movement. Ibrahimovic is in another league to both of them, has never really had injury problems, is at the top of his game right now despite the age, and has never relied on speed which is the main thing that goes with age. He's a beast strength wise still, but it's his technique and intelligence on the pitch (and drive off of it) that enables him to remain at a high level for so long. He's like Ronaldo almost in the way he looks after himself, doesn't drink and all that.

From his comments I assume he decided to join us a long time ago, on the basis we appoint the Portuguese git as our manager, and he's happy to put his name on the dotted as soon as Jose has.

Captain of England, Captain of Germany and potentially Captain of Sweden. You want winners in your squad, you want attitude and you want arrogance.

You want Zlatan.

I'm coming round to this one...

His age is what bothered me but then that could be said to be a bonus, as we have a couple of young players who may want to be leading our line in a year or two but probably aren't ready now.

Also, I watched a Youtube compilation, so naturally I now think he's the best player that ever lived.

I think it was decided in around February personally.

I think Mourinho knew in Februaryish he'd be Man Utd manager.

Van Gaal would be given until the end of the season, the lunch with the Morattis showed he had a verbal agreement with United (Mourinho).

Zlatan is 34, hasn't yet played in the Premier League, has won titles in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, France. He must have to decide what's his last career move, what is he going to do AFTER his playing career too, he has a good relationship with Mourinho, worked with Beckham at PSG and Milan I think Mourinho has spoken to him earlier this year to sound out interest.

If Zlatan wasn't sure about his future earlier in the year he would have been in contract negotiations for an extra year at PSG.

A few weeks ago too he said "If United sack LvG I'll sign for them", it doesn't take a genius to create the dots, I'm actually excited for next season already.

Sounds entirely believable.

I have a mild erection. If Mourinho can bring these sort of names then i could warm to the cnut.

This is going to be brilliant! Forget his age, defenders of the opposing team are going to be queueing up outside the toilet before each match knowing they're going to face the black belted zlatan. A few more signings like this, martial will be used to the league and have zlatan as his partner up front, and that fear factor of teams not knowing how to play against us will be back.

Now for a speedy right winger, a hard arse midfielder, right back and central defender and it's game on.

Ibrahimovic:

''I have a great relationship with Mourinho and we are in contact, but not in the last weeks - we have been talking for many years.''

Regarding the prospect of Mourinho taking over at United, Ibrahimovic said: ''I think it is a great move - if you want action you bring Mourinho.
''I believe he is the man to take them back to the top.
''Wherever he went he has won. He knows what he is doing. If you want to win, you bring Mourinho.
''I had a fantastic time with him when I was working with him - so working again with him...?
''When I left Inter I said we had had a short time together but a great time. If we will work together again, I don't know. Let's see how things play out.
''I don't give guarantees - but there are concrete offers from the Premier League, so let's see what happens.''

It was also put to Ibrahimovic there have been questions over whether he would be suited to the Premier League, given his age.
He replied: ''I am only warming up. I had a fantastic season and proved age is just a number.
''Everything is in your head - whatever you want to do, you will do it.
''If I want to make it, I will make it. I am not worried.''

Couldn't make my mind up about this transfer at first but given his transfer would free up cash for other positions, it makes perfect sense.

Add to that he's an amazing player.

Swedish paper Aftonbladet sent out a reporter to Megastore and asked if they could print Zlatan's name on a shirt...

#MUFC Megastore refuse to print Ibrahimovic shirts: "Its a done deal, but until it's confirmed, we can't print"

"it's a done deal", What a strange comment to make.

Are we to believe that the club shop guys have been briefed?

Pure glamour signing someone like him, even at 35. Scored a tonne of goals these last couple of years though, not just against Boulogne Beachboys FC, but in the champs league, Europe etc.

Would be an exciting first move.

Couple more of his ilk, and we'll be a force next year.
