Where did the Italian league rank when he played there? Fourth?

Not sure, but it has no bearing on his quality as he is widely renowned as being one of the best strikers in the world and the fact that he's coming on a free is even sweeter - almost zero risk, potential massive reward. No brainers don't come any more obvious than this one.

Let's hope this doesn't end up like the Falcao fiasco.

If you watch the Youtube video entitled "Blessure Falcao Chasselay-Monaco 22/01/2014", then you will imagine the gravity of his injury and understand why his career has stopped in January 2014, 7 months before his move to Manchester.

There is a Falcao Pre-January 2014 and a Falcao Post-January 2014. Sad but true.

I just can't believe some people don't want Zlatan. Big player with a big personality and winning mentality. Exactly what we need.

If other players don't make the team because he's in it then good, they should up their game and try to force their way in. No one should be playing if there's a better replacement.

One of Rooney/Mata will not be here next season, maybe both

Not a chance Rooney will be leaving. And it's not 100% certain Mata will be either though obviously Jose doesn't seem to be a fan.

I just thought about DiMaria, he would hardly of given us a glowing reference would he lol

Zlatan has 'silly' stats for any striker. I don't think Zlatan did want to renew his contract for many reasons and last year, the club couldn't expect his recent performances.

I won't reply to everyone, because I'm getting a lot of alerts here. All I'll say is this. I'm not against the signing at all, in fact I've been in favour of it for months now. But let's not pretend there isn't a significant risk involved. There is, of course, always risk involved (regardless of who you sign), but the older a player is the more risky it is.

I'm in favour of it though. Worst comes to worst, it just doesn't work out. Will be surreal to see him play for us.

And for people who thinks that he will not get along with Rooney at all, this is what he said about him

Zlatan in 2013:

I follow it. The player I like is Wayne Rooney. For me, Rooney is a fantastic footballer. I can imagine him playing alongside me.

For me, Rooney is not the player who scores 40 goals a season. But he is the player who helps his partner score lots of goals because he is working for one, two and maybe three other players. It seems like he has a strong mentality to win - like me he doesn't like to lose.

I think crazy things happen around him also. He is an impulsive guy like me. In football no-one is perfect. You learn from your mistakes and I like that with him. He is himself; I think that is very important. That is one English player I like more than anyone.

Zlatan in 2015:

"These great players, they have their moments over one to three years. But to continue over five years, for ten years the way Wayne Rooney has done is not easy. It's pressure everyday playing for a big team."

"He runs a lot, he fights a lot, he sacrifices a lot," he added.

"When he played with Cristiano Ronaldo all the work was done by Wayne Rooney but he didn't get the credit because Ronaldo was scoring all of the goals.

"I'd prefer to have him in my team than play against him. I've not been lucky enough to play with him but I enjoy seeing him on the pitch - if I cannot play with him, I will watch him.

Well, he is faster than Giroud.

Indeed, Giroud is not fast and has limited technical skills.

Season 2010/11: Gameiro best striker of the French league with 22 goals
Season 2011/12: Giroud best striker of the French league with 21 goals - Montpellier champion
Season 2012/13: Ibrahimovic best striker of the French league with 30 goals - Psg champion

I don`t know. Ok no Transfer fee but his wages are also a big cost factor. It seems he likes and respects Rooney but it sounds again like Fitting big names into a starting 11 instead of building something great for years to come.
This is what Pep, Klopp, Conte etc. will do.

However, I am not completely against it.

Zlatan won't even need to get used to the pace of the premier league, it's irrelevant. All he has to do is stand just outside the 18 yard box and pile drive the ball in.

@Mciahel Goodman

Getting a lot of alerts is a sign of success :D

An excellent team has a good mix of performing confirmed players and of young promising talents.

This season, the young players do the job while senior players were rather disappointing: our CF Wayne Rooney, Mata and Schweini.

The same Pep who's refused to stay with the probably the best or 2nd best squads in Europe? Building for the future?

What a perfect signing for us. This is exactly what this team needs. Zlatan has undisputed talent and aside from that and perhaps more importantly he has a winning mentality. He is a boss, and he's probably the most obsessed about himself footballer on earth - perfect, like Ron. It's time this team started to believe and play with heart. Just a shame we will get him so late at 34. At least 2 years left in the tank I rekon!

I feel like a kid at Christmas at the moment, can't wait to see who Mou brings to us next year. Champions League surely at least.

Just to be clear, should United never sign a player outside a top 2 league according to you?

Course not, that would be a massively sweeping statement. I'm just looking at the record of a guy who it looks like we're signing.

That's like you saying no to Lewandoski even though he is banging around 30 goals a year playing for a team that is absolutely dominating the league. He is in a very good team in a shit league. You think he wont do well if he comes here?

Just not the same. For starters the German league is better than the French. He's performed in the ECL. He's not 34 either.

Well it wasn't top two. Which means he's spent almost his entire career outside the top two. Trying to think of another supposedly world class player whose done that in the modern era.

How can the opposition he plays against week in week out have no bearing on his quality? The lower the standard you play at the better you look. I'd say that's a no brainer.

You're splitting hairs here for what reason ? He's widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world, full stop. And we are getting him on a free no less.

I've noticed that the posters who do not want Jose do not want Ibrahimovic either. Coincidence?

And the usually offer no alternative to either, which basically exposes them as moaners struggling to get a grip with the reality that is unfolding before them.

Firstly Zlatan hasn't been terrible in the UCL but why does that matter? We aren't in the Champions League.

Are we getting ahead of ourselves? Discussing all these based on a Dutch paper report?
He's already stated he knows his next destination but hasn't revealed it yet. Mourinho has known for weeks he's got the job, he's clearly made plans behind the scenes.

He's already said "I won't join them if LVG stays". Well guess that won't be a problem now will it?

Hardly splitting hairs to discuss the level he's played at. It's what football's about.

It wasn't long ago that he was widely regarded as overrated and someone who struggled against English teams. Did you go along with that opinion because it was the general consensus?

Both big names but both come with major question marks. People who like big names and back them to put the questions to rest will want them both and people who prefer more obscure shouts that whilst being less proven come with less obvious issues would prefer not to sign either of them.

I didn't say he's been terrible, just average.

He won't be playing at French league level if he comes here so why does his goalscoring record there matter?

You can't just eradicate his performances in well over 100 games when we're discussing his ability.

Widely regarded as overrated.

Not sure where you're getting that from. Did you invent it out of thin air perhaps ? You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't highly rate him.

Emery and Gameiro. We wouldn't need to worry about finishing top four as we'd win the Europa League.

I never argued because he can scores goals for us. I didn't want him because of that. He is free. That's the first reason. Second reason is his impact on the squad.

The effect of a winning mentality / ego cannot be overstated. Ibrahimovic is a winner, everywhere he goes he wins. Now having a manager with a similar mentality coupled with a squad that just win its first trophy for a while, that mentality is going to be as valuable as any signing.
