If Mata goes, you know that's what'll happen. .Rooney as #10

Yeah but when i said club captain in the post you replied to i was obviously referring to Wayne Rooney specifically, Rooney's situation and Keanes back in 2005 are totally different.
Keane's behaviour warranted him getting sacked. Rooney is club captain, England captain, soon to be all time club top scorer, 30 years old not 35, still the biggest draw in terms of marketing, has 3 years left on a massive contract not 6 months and has not done anything that would result in him getting sacked and booted out of the club.
So back to my original point it's highly unlikely United will be booting Wayne Rooney out or giving him ultimatums about playing time. Do you disagree?
I'm actually hoping that we do sign him. For one, I think that he's still a class goalscorer but also secondly, we are shorn of top level experience in the team right now, its important for the kids coming in to the team to have someone to look up to and learn from. Look what impact Cantona had on the kids. Beckham said it often enough that when he saw the effort Cantona was putting in on the training ground, after official training had finished, it inspired them to do the same.Really, really hope that we do not sign him. Would rather we spend the money on a younger player.

Not doubting his class or ability, but I think he would be the wrong move at this time. Depending on how we play, we may not even need a new striker. We need to sort out the supply line first of all. This is the worst attacking football I have seen in 40 years of watching United. There are games where we do not get a shot on target, because nothing is being created for the strikers. We have enough young strikers
I don't disagree with that, but I also feel that we need a new focal point. Rooney is not up to it anymore and both Martial and Rashford are young, and could benefit from playing off someone else. Not doubting his class or ability, but I think he would be the wrong move at this time. Seen him plenty of times. Don't want an over the hill prima donna for 1 or 2 seasons.Have you watched Ibra much? He is not just a finisher, he is also a creator, also yes we should be focusing money on bringing in creative midfield players so if we can get a very good striker on a free then we should.
35 goals/14 assists in 35 appearances is over the hill?Seen him plenty of times. Don't want an over the hill prima donna for 1 or 2 seasons.
I think it really goes to show he should stay in a league which allows him to massage his ego (as with Di Maria). We'd be a laughing stock with him upfront and Rooney behind.
As usual, then.Aside from a couple of decent (not great) freekick efforts he's been shite tonight. No effort whatsoever.
Rips it up in the french league. Track record of being half the player in the CL. Sign him.
Never seen him do it in a big game

Send Memphis there and he will get close to those totals with that team.
Yup. Good players never play poorly. Caf knows it's stuff. People watch him 3-4 times a year, they know what they're talking about.35 goals/14 assists in 35 appearances is over the hill?
