Do we play this Thursday? I'd take him out the firing line if Martial is fit again. Let him have another go at the weekend against Swansea.

I wouldn't say he's lacking confidence. Two of his chances were frustrated by good defending or poor finishing, depending on your view. One was selfish, there were 5 defenders and the keeper in the way, he could have passed that to one of the two free players. The other he must have taken his eye off the ball because it was an open goal.

Needs a bit of a rest and will come back stronger. Needs that one goal to get back to his groove.

Plenty of our chances had him heavily involved. Both Mata and Pogba who are looking like our biggest hope in terms of chance creation link up well with Ibra.

His finishing has been dogshite but if we were to have some kind of a run it would be with him banging majority of them in rather than without him. I am as frustrated as many of you are with the absolute below par finishing but I haven't lost all hope yet.

This place has been embarrassing for a while, opinions are sinusoidal in their nature and there's no sense of perspective at all. See even the expectations for Pogba, Mourinho and previously LVG and the reactions later.
Problem with posts like that is that you generalize a few post and extrapolate as if every member thinks this or that. It is a forum, everyone has a different view. You cannot reduce it to a bipolar system.

I was seething with Zlatan when I left Old Trafford on Saturday evening, having had a weekend to reflect I'm a little bit calmer about his situation.

His recent misses have been abysmal. Let's not beat around the bush. The kind of chances he's spurned you would expect a mid tier Premier league striker to score. That chance Pogba dropped on his foot was harder to miss than score!

I am confident that he can't go on like this forever though. He's too good of a striker to keep messing up easy chances. Once he gets a goal he'll get his confidence back and we'll see the Zlatan of August again.

He will come good.

Obviously when i mean 'this place' it means that a large number of opinions reflect what I'm talking about and not absolute everyone adheres to it, that goes without saying. Just papering over the reactions can lead one to conclude as much. A glut of promotions has meant that the caf has become inundated with more opinions than ever all converging towards a generally accepted mean being repeated ad infinitum until it changes or no longer remains so.

Yes, we'll take care to keep the current newbie batch down there longer ;)

I was looking at some stats and Zlatan has the most "big chances missed" out of any Premier League player this season so far - he's missed 10 of these "sitters", Theo Walcott was next on 8

His confidence in front of goal has deserted him. Badly needs a goal or a hatrick to get it back.

Never seen the whole game, but in the highlights it looked like Zlatan and Mata were involved in everything and both were very unlucky not to score. Heaton had one of those world class performances.

They were, Zlatan played well around the box. He was involved in everything, his finishing was poor but he's not the only player missing chances. I'm more than happy to see him continue as first choice.

He has been a massive let down so far, really hope he doesn't start our next few games.

Needs a tap-in or a penalty or something to get some confidence back.

Its weird that we are questioning zlatans confidence. I don't think I've ever known a player more confident in his abilities.

Whilst I think he'll come good and definitely hit double figures in the PL, he should be used sparingly and start games against slower, strong defenders so he can bully them before rashford moves up front to terrify them with his pace.

I'm okay with him continuing to start but I don't think he should ever be finishing a game, particularly when we have such pacey players to take his place when the opposition defence gets weary.

Though he was doing better than now, it's not like he was destroying teams in August either.

He needs to be dropped and Martial should start as our CF. Martial can make half chances into goals let alone score the basic tap ins.

There's appearing to be confident and then there's genuine self confidence.

I'm not saying he's all bravado but when I think of real solid self belief I think of Keane, Shearer, Owen. These guys to me have unwavering belief in their ability.

That said I think Zlatan will get back on track and produce decent figures. His size alone means he gets too many chances to only provide a modest return. Chuck in his ability and he'll easily get 15. Not good enough for me but not a disaster either.

Fine margins guys. On another day Zlatan could have scored 2 and everybody will be saying "his bad run is over, class is permanent, he will fire us to the top 4 "

I would be much more worried he was genuinely not involved or messing everything up with poor play like Rooney was. Fact is he's playing OK, just needs to make sure he takes his chances.

Maybe he's feeling the pressure more at United and snatching at shots, the difference's are so small at the top level.

Is that a new stat? Clear cut chances missed/scored

Apparently its an Opta sub category. Not sure if its new or if Opta have always categorised chances this way but never had the opportunity to make a story from it.

This.

He's creating for others and getting the chances himself, Rashford played the 2nd half alongside him and offered nothing whereas Zlatan was involved in everything. It'll come.

Nah nothing to do with fine margins, that's just excuse making from a fan I'm afraid. It's just crap finishing.

He'll probably turn things around but let's call it as it is.

At last the voice of reason ..well said pal .
Your right he was involved with everything he caused absolute chaos in the box the guy is a fantastic focal point for our attack , the goals will come back again and he will be United's top scorer by a mile .
I suggest the critics just give the guy a break and keep your fingers crossed as he is the only player in the team capable of getting 20 odd goals this season

A 35-year-old body simply doesn't have the fuel, zip and dynamism to combine playmaking and striking duties.

That's Zlatan main problem right now. He looks extremely dangerous and creative when he comes deep to pass and move but then the quick dart into the space to finish is regularly fluffed because he's 95 per cent 'gone' already due to the huge effort put in to start the move.

The solution? More creative players round him. I'm convinced his United 'life' will improve once Miki and Marital are properly integrated into the team.

If we are to persist with him uptop I really think he needs Rashford, or preferably Martial uptop with him.

We have a completely different squad and style to what PSG used him for.

I'd have them both up there with Zlatan in a false 9 playmaker position. His link up play with Mata and Pogba is very good at times. He just needs a goal for confidence (can't believe I said that about Zlatan, but, yeah)

But, I agree. He needs pace and runners around him these days especially in the EPL where teams sit back against us at home.

Let him get that goal in the reserves I'd say, six PL games without scoring means the guy should be benched. He's already cost us a lot of points.

I'd say the reason he isn't scoring is he's getting a lot less time in this league than Ligue 1.

I remember when we were a team that won trophies instead of pandering to over the hill players like Rooney and Ibrahimovic.

He doesn't need to play 90 minutes every game, he could come on after 60 minutes or go off after 60, depending how the game is going.

Zlatan will come good, he's a far to good. Just needs that breakthrough goal to turn things around, I remember when Van persie broke his little goal drought with a penalty agains stoke away, you could see how delighted he was. Earlier in the season he was scoring with little to no service and now he's missing quite a lot with some decent service so that shows its down to confidence and luck.

he'll score 20 goals this season imo.
