He is the new Cantona for us. He'll play shite most of the game, try things that wont come off and then inspire the team with a goal out of nothing. Zlatan's going to win us so many games this season playing shite.
Worst Cantona description ever.

Same description most of his team mates had of him. I was at the match in 96, where he was shocking against Newcastle and won us the game out of absolutely nothing.

Absolute bollocks though, generally speaking.

I wasnt speaking "generally" (when talking about Cantona and Ibra, I'd have thought it was obviously I wasnt speaking generally when it comes to bad games). I was speaking about tomes when he has a bad game. Which happened in a lot of Cantona's more famous games, but his inspiration and eye for goal carried him and the team over the line.

Played too deep in the first half. Jose may have had a word at half time as Zlatan stayed in position after that. Not sure how effective he and Rooney will be together.

I feel like there's so much talk about how quality a player is during the game nowadays but people are forgetting that goal scoring > anything.

We see this used as critsicim for Ronaldo too. If Zlatan scores a goal he really has done his job and you can't say he performed badly. Goal scoring is very underrated on here sometimes.

Hardly. Stats have nowadays become the be all and end all of most discussions.

In this case, people are being extra critical of the performance because there's no so much hype and hence overanlaysis and it being just 1 goal in the community shield. If Ibra scores 30 this season, people will be over the moon regardless of the rest of his game.

The stats people constantly talk about are interceptions/forwarded passes made/heat maps etc.

People underrate goals and see goals as just another statistic. Goalscoaring is arguably the most important aspect of football. If you score goals as a striker you really are doing your job.

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC: I'M A LION ON THE PITCH

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has described himself as a "lion" on the football pitch, but believes his confidence is wrongly perceived as arrogance.

The Swedish striker - signed on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer - has enjoyed an excellent start to life at the club, netting the winner in last weekend's Community Shield clash against Leicester City.

Already a cult hero in the stands, Zlatan has been quick to play down his "bad-boy" image, but says self-assurance is one of his biggest assets.

"I'm a normal person," he told Sky Sports. "People have the image of me that I'm a bad boy; I'm this and I'm that. People are curious: 'How is this Zlatan?'

"I'm a family guy. I'm taking care of my family but, when I step on the pitch, I'm a lion. That's the big difference. I don't believe I'm arrogant in the way that people think. I'm confident. I believe in myself. That's not being arrogant. That's something I believe is an individual strength in the human being.

"I have confidence and I believe in myself. I have a vision and I do everything. I work hard for it. I don't believe that's arrogant."

Ibrahimovic will look to continue his fine form against Bournemouth in United's opening Premier League fixture this Sunday (14 August) - after scoring on his first outing against Galatasaray and competitive debut last weekend, he will be out to make it a hat-trick with a debut Premier League strike at the Vitality Stadium.

Why here, why now?

It was the moment to come to England, and who would not come to Manchester United? I don't believe there is anybody who could say no to a club like Manchester United.

Probably the players that play for other clubs in England would like to come here, 100 per cent. I am very happy I am here and representing Manchester United. Even the name sounds cool. I'm super excited.

His interview for Sky sports.

Imagine if he left us -- for some reason wasn't here next season. I'd be so butthurt!

I agree with Zlatan. "Manchester United" is a cool name befitting of the club.

Ibrahimovic will turn 35 in October but insists he has not set a retirement date.

Asked by Sky Sports about his future, the former Barcelona and Inter Milan frontman said: “Let's see what happens. You never know.

“It could be more than two, it could be more than three, let's see how long I feel like I can perform.

“I will not be somewhere only because I am Ibrahimovic.

:D
I rarely use them outside of when I'm watching live matches as they're quicker to use to express said emotion, but thanks.

Having players like him and Pogba at the club just seems right doesn't it? I like the idea of us being a bit more "hollywood". We had it with Beckham, Cantona and Ronaldo but it's been gone since then.

Much better. Balls into the box like that is exactly what we need.

Rather than the "who can get deeper" contest between Zlatan and Rooney.

Me and my mate played that same game with one girl at uni. I won.

Feel like he's one of those players that was born to play for United. Ideally, he should've joined the club 4 years ago instead of RVP although he doesn't seem like a Fergie type of player/character.

Called himself a family guy. Missed opportunity so far.

Scored 5 in his first 5 league games for Barca, 2/5 for Milan and 7/5 for PSG. Anything less than 4 in his first 5 for Utd is unacceptable. lel
