Yevhen Konoplyanka

Those quotes stink of their owner throwing out a link to Utd in order to speed along a deal with someone else.

If we're bringing this guy as a replacement for one of Young, Nani or Valencia then we can hardly go far wrong at that price can we?

Worst case scenario: we've swapped one ordinary winger for another, though on much lower wages.

Best case scenario: he actually turns out to be the best winger we have, at a bargain price too.

So this lad has shot up to the top of the Redcafe forums, what's happening in are we signing him?

I watched Konoplyanka against Spurs in the Europa League this season and must say I was impressed, he's a proper out-and-out winger and miles better then the options we currently have in our squad :)

I'd rather spend big on Griezmann or try a punt with Shaqiri, rather than get some unknown playing for some pub team in Ukraine.

I'm sure Vidic wasn't signed from one of the top leagues in Europe, and that worked incredibly well.

As a pure out and out winger, Konoplyanka is superior to both players you mention.

I've never seen this Konoplyanka guy play, but I'd rather get someone more proven at a higher level.

And by out and out winger you mean a Valencia type? Players who are dead in the modern game.

No I don't mean the Valencia types who are very one dimensional.

Just because he plays in the Ukrainian league doesn't mean that he hasn't come up against quality players. He's shown against the French and German National teams that he can perform against the best in Europe. Griezmann when I watched him play against us in the UCL the season gone was annonymous in both games against us. Shaqiri sitting on the Bayern bench isn't exactly proving anything apart from getting blisters in his back-side.

Konoplyanka would bring real pace and tempo to our play and is a player who would fit in really well if Van Gaal does decide to play 4-3-3 similar to how Overmars was under him at Ajax.

Well I guess the first point is good.

To be fair the whole Sociedad squad were disappointing in the group stages. Again I haven't seen him play so I'm not aware of his performances in the national side, With Shaqiri your quite unfair his competition includes some of the best attacking players in Europe but he does show when given game time especially last season under Heynckes that his good enough not to mention he tormented our defense in Basel. And I do think we're in more need to have a right sided winger than left.

I am aware Van Gaal likes pacey and direct wingers and if we're only paying 12-15M I wouldn't complain if we do sign this guy.

Dnipro are hardly a pub team. They're not far off being at Sociedad's level.

Don't confuse your not knowing him with him being unknown.
Fair enough I haven't heard much about him other than Liverpool almost signed him on deadline day in January.

Griezmann and Shaqiri are hardly proven.
They are playing in Spain and Germany, both more demanding and competitive than the Ukrainian league. Shaqiri has shown the potential to be quality, not to mention his built like a truck so he wouldn't have trouble adapting to England that Shinji has found.

If you've never seen him play, how can you judge he's not proven enough? He plays regularly for the national team and is there best player. £12m is a bargain.

I watched a Ukraine game last year and saw a good player out wide who I was impressed with. When Pool were reportedly interested in a Ukraine wide player in January, I was disappointed it was him and that Pool were looking likely to get him.

I wouldn't mind him at United. Liverpool might still get him though. They do have CL football to offer.

Surprised so many on here have seen enough of him to form an opinion.

I haven't as I don't watch the Ukrainian league.

One thing I will say though to those moaning about how underwhelming the signing would be is that our fans often moan that rather than us going for players like this when they're around £10-15m we wait for them to be bought by a club like Dortmund in a bigger league, wait for them to shine, then covet them when the price we'd have to stump up is in excess of £30m+.

Seems a low risk signing. If LvG wants him I imagine his opinion is more informed than any of ours and I'd assume this means he thinks he's better than someone like Depay.

Not really convincing. Basically looks like demand has dropped and the chairman is trying to drum up business.

How exactly? In many games the guy just walks for around 60-70 minutes. He is very inconsistent and it remains to bee seen whether he has a stomach for a top level league, while Griezmann actually have experience in a top level league.

Looks like a touchline hugger and their chairman seems keener to sell than anyone being keen to buy.

He's more explosive than Griezmann, his dribbling at full speed with the ball under his spell is frightening for opposition defenders. He has shown his potential against some of the best teams in the world including the German, French and English National teams to name afew. In Euro 2012 he also showed his potential at a major International tournament. We need someone who's going to be a real threat on the wing for us to provide the dynamism and raise the tempo to make us a more dangerous side, and Konoplyanka fits that's that bill perfectly, he would be a revelation for us like another Ukrainian all them years back.

I'm not surprised our link with Konoplyanka has surfaced after the appointment of Van Gaal. For Van Gaal to make make us a fluid attacking unit in the philosophy he wants to instill into the team it's imperative you have someone as rapid as Konoplyanka who has the required technical ability and talent to make it work, Konoplyanka would be a revelation in the EPL.

His record with these best teams are not exactly that good. At Euro he had and okay games against Sweden and England and was horrible against France, completely anonymous. He did not exactly stated his case as a exceptional player there. In the qualifiers he was very much a hit and miss really. And again he was not exactly the stand out performer more like he was playing along with a team, if the team was good, he looked lively, the team had a poor game, he was never to bee seen.
The main issue for me, does he have enough stamina and work rate to play in England. Oleg Luznniy a former Arsenal player, now a pundit of sorts in Ukraine does not think so, as do many others, all of them saying that Konoplyanka is a very off/on player, he sometimes just switches off and english game's intensity along with physicality would be a problem for him, and that he is much more suited for La Liga. And i agree with that.

His performances against England should convince Luzhniy that he has what it takes to be a success in England when he was facing Walker, Gerrard, Cahill and co and they were struggling to stop him. Luzhniy himself was average for Arsenal and that doesn't mean Konoplyanka will be.

Okay name one good thing he has done in the Kiev's match?
You just cherry picking really. He can have one or two good games sure, very different to plying like that every week.

All players have an off day from time to time, Ronaldo and Messi are prime examples.

He has all the required attributes to be a big hit for us, his electric pace along with his dribbling ability and technique make him very dangerous for opposing defences. Much better than Remy Cabella who you suggested.
