Yann M’Vila

I'm a bit sceptical about this one, I think Sahin and M'Vila sounds too good to be true!! None of the really reliable people are reporting this yet but there is talk that we are after a more defensive midfielder as well as Sahin.

Rennes are desperate to sell him. Especially now that they've almost signed Makoun from Villa on a year long loan deal.
However, Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas stated last week his club's interest in the France international had ended, as they focus on bolstering their frontline.

The Gunners' sale of Alex Song to Barcelona, which was confirmed on Monday, has reignited speculation they could look to M'Vila, who is valued at around €20 million, as a replacement.

Of the holding midfielder's future, Dreossi told RMC: "Arsenal? Maybe. You need to ask Arsene Wenger. I think Arsenal will look for a player in this position. He (M'Vila) could go there or to a club which sells Arsenal a player."

Dreossi is keen for a resolution over M'Vila's future by the end of the week, adding: "We will start negotiating. We hope to find a solution by the end of the week.

"It is complicated. Yann doesn't want to go to a team where he is not completely wanted. There is a real chance for him to stay (in Rennes) this season."

Looks like both of M'vila and Witsel are available, who would add the extra muscle and steel in midfield that we obviously lack when compared to our rivals. Hope we attempt to sign either one of these before the window closes.

I'll go with Spurs. Wenger decided against Sahin based on Wilshere returning soon so I'd be slightly surprised if M'Vila came in, although they have just sold Song...

Yeah Arsenal would make sense. I think that wilshere thing was just b.s. I think they see wilshere as more the xavi type, good defensively but you don't want him as the main defensive man, he's better as the middle man between the defensive one and attacking one.

Spurs have made a bid.

Tottenham have submitted a bid to sign 22-year-old France midfielder Yann M'Vila from Rennes, according to the Ligue 1 club.

It is understood Spurs have proposed a fee of £12.7m with add-ons, though Rennes want an unconditional £15m.

Who will be Arsenal's new midfielder if not him?

They'll be fecked without a replacement for Song.

Again unless the rumors about him being a troublemaker are true I can't understand why we wouldn't go in for him or Dembele. Slightly different players but still a physical presence in CM is still what we need.

Spurs have Sandro, Parker and that young one, Livermore or something. Why would they need M'Vila? Unless I'm mistaken and he's more like Modric.

Villas-Boas agrees with you:

Andre Villas-Boas last week said:
M'Vila is an interesting player but I don't think he will join Tottenham. The player is a player of defensive characteristics. On the possible replacements for Luka, we are looking for a more creative player. I can't lie to you. We had initial interest in the player but we have moved on from that one and are now looking for a more creative player because we think that we have certain players already that offer us those defensive characteristics.

Ferguson doesn't sign midfielders

So they've gone from from Song, Wilshere, Fabregas to Wilshere, Arteta, ??? (Ramsey)?

Seriously, what does it take before Wenger can no longer have them finish top 4 either.

Arteta, Wilshere, Ramsey, Cazorla, Rosicky, Coquelin, Diaby, Frimpong.

Rennes will be crazy to accept that fee. It's too low for M'Vila and I'm not saying because of his ability but because of his hype, his age and the fact he's played for France.
If they get him at that price, they'd have ripped off Rennes from one their best ever product of the last 10 years

So in your opinion he's a £15 million central midfielder? But because he's one of the most talked about muppet friendly names around he should be costing more?

Why do you omit the fact (mentioned by me in the previous post) that he's a full international ? His age+ potential + full international, all these factors should enable Rennes to get a better fee than the one mentioned

Just trying to see how highly you rate him. Dont know enough about him myself but when I've seen him I havent been impressed.

I think the Alex Song fee indicates M'Vila's true value in relation to his market value. I can't see how he is undervalued, or cheap, or should be purchased for a higher than €20m.

You can't compare fees for players, they all have different scenarios. By that account Andy Carroll would be one of the worlds best players.

When I rate a player regarding club football I don't take into account whether he plays for his national team and if he does how well.I only focus on the matches he's played at his club, on his age and potential (the most difficult thing to judge for pros let alone amateurs like us) and it's the same for M'Vila.
How high a transfer's fee can get and how good the player is are two things different for me (and for many others too).Andy Carroll being the prime example

At 15mil he would be a good option for us to go for. We need a Carrick alternative and a replacement long term and he could fit the bill. Very unlikely to happen though, which is a shame.

Let's be a bit cynical, for us, it's 15m + Utd tax.
