 Shut up you Mad Men tool

It's how these things work you know it

There would have been a 'we can get away with more (less) cause of starfield' approach on that front

Not about how much you pack in but how good / much fun / full of life that stuff is. Like what was the last really well written Bethesda game? Or even the last one that had excellent gameplay? I hope they have evolved as their recent outings just been like content stuck together with no real soul.

That’s where I don’t have faith in them.

The procedural worlds will no doubt feel relatively empty or even if not then samey. Its all templated.

But they showed snippets of some diverse characters and cities that looked like they could have big potential.

And I think the combat gameplay looks as good as anyone can expect for a game like that.

It looks great, but I really hope they're overblowing the 1000 worlds thing where all the exploration is random and you just go around to these crappy, empty worlds doing the same basic quests and fetching the same crafting gear. I hope there's a lot of quality main and side quest content without having to go in to any of that.

Yeah I'm with you.

Fingers crossed that stuff is relatively unnecessary unless you're the sort of weirdo who wants to go deep on having the best possible ship with every possible upgrade.

I can't think of anything worse than flying to an empty planet just to find certain types of rock and watch a mining animation for a few seconds each time.

Unless there are good side missions where I can gather that stuff organically along the way I probably won't bother with it

That's the part I'll never agree on with you and @amolbhatia50k on.

Just because it hasn't been done before, it doesn't mean that it can't be done now. The physics, the coding, the work has already been done in other games and is widely available. Video game development is about faking so much, so no you don't have to recreate every single bullet to it's most accurate state, but thinking about basic stuff like weight of impact and the feel of controls should be priority.

There is absolutely no reason why the combat cannot be great.

All in all, decent showing from Xbox. Starfield I've been pessimistic about but I'm feeling some level of hope now. Please don't feck me Todd.

Looks like some journos have had hands on time with it so we should get more impressions and gameplay over next few days.

Hellblade was the one I was most disappointed with. Expected a proper showing from it with more more gameplay.

What's at the extended show Tuesday?

Guessing HiFi Rush DLC, Ara, AOE, Forza deep dive and updates on some of the still unreleased games from last years showcase. Probably a montage of indie games coming to gamepass too.

Fingers crossed we get even more Starfield but if so it'll probably be a dev interview with the footage from today in the background.

It was a really good show easily best one from the last few weeks. What stopped it from being great was few too many CGI trailers with no gameplay or dates, still strong showing.

Procedural worlds? Gosh I hate that in gaming tbh. It’s better to have 10 brilliantly and intricately crafted worlds than 100 generic ones imo.

I don’t subscribe to that thought though. My only input on that is that a game for me personally is about the sum total of the entire experience, immersion and enjoyment I gain out of it. To completely and shamelessly come across as CDPRs biatch, neither Witcher 3 nor Cyberpunk had technically outstanding combat but for some reason I thoroughly enjoyed it in both. Maybe in some games the narrative experience and writing elevates the whole experience for me. But even other side in Witcher 3 just using my spells and dancing around enemies has not gotten tiresome in 4 playethroughs. And cyberpunk’s build diversity, unique and satisfying weapons / cybernetics have me happily switching between tech pistols, shotguns, mantis blades, katanas and hacking, for 3 play through a so far. So it’s a bit of both - fun factor and the overall package (for me personally).

And in Starfields case I’m not sure how good Bethesda are at writing anyway. So there’s more pressure on good combat I guess.

Story, quests or factions all looks like generic Bethesda slop.

I think they're doing it on purpose. They clearly don't think that's an important part of an rpg.

Agreed. But for what it's worth they are clearly going for both here. There's still core cities that all have distinct looks and feels to them.

The 1000/limitless planets otherwise available procedurally are I am hoping padding for those who want to go deep on levelling.

Did you get any hopes from the Fable stuff? At least 2 years away but Richard Ayoade suggests to me they've tonally hit the nail on the head. I love the reboot and twist with the Fabled characters being part of the bigger narrator/creators world. Can't know from any pre release footage whether a game will have a good story or not but that seemed a great foundation.

Still a big question mark over Playground creating an RPG but the snippets of gameplay and world looked great.

Also, if you're a UK based developer I don't think there's a more exciting project to work on right now @Redlambs @b82REZ - presuming some degree of needing to be local/in office of course.

Starfield looks fecking great. Like all Bethesda games it will be overhyped and probably buggy on launch but it's going to dominate the gaming market for the next 2 years.

Weirdly enough yes, although they didn't show anything other than a cgi trailer. It really could be something interesting.

I'm just so tired of Bethesda who clearly can build amazing worlds and just plain refuse to honour them with good writing/story/characters. It's always "what could've been" for me when playing their games.

Btw, some interesting games of that PC Gaming show stream right now.

Nivalis for example might be a decent cyberpunk thing.

It was in game footage not cgi. And there were clearly moments of gameplay even if hudless or not the players POV.

But you've been saying it's about story so I wondered if Ayoade, the tone and that narrative foundation got you going.

Fable isn't Bethesda so the second half of your post doesn't really apply

I answered in my first sentence and I was just continuing my train of thought from my previous post about Bethesda in the next one. They don't necessarily need to be related I think. Ok then, are we good? Good.

No I need to validate my own worth by making you agree with me and liking what I like

All the data seemed to suggest that xbox series s was not selling well. So, releasing another version is interesting

Acceptance is the first step.

You are a shill, you are paid to be a horrible person. Own it!

It'd be way better and less embarrassing for all of us if we actually got paid to talk shit about consoles on a football forum rather than the truth that we're all sad bastards.

4k 30fps confirmed for SX

Disappointing though its hardly surprising with the ambition and scale.

What’s SX? I don’t understand games on next gen hardware that can’t do 60fps. We are not at the fag end of this console generation. Come on.

Someone will bring out a mod unlocking the frame rate within minutes of release.
As long as you got a TV with variable refresh rate you can run it as high as the console will allow.

Not a surprise. Seeing the scale of it, it's going to really work the CPU. No chance it was going to be 60fps on console.

And probably no chance it hits a consistent 30fps, to be fair.

I bought an Xbox X specifically for Starfield, have to say I’m pretty disappointed it’s only going to be 30fps.

It looks great mind you and I can’t wait to try it but 30fps?
